2022 Merano Ice Trophy

The 2022 Merano Ice Trophy will be held Feb 4-6, 2022, in Merano, Italy, at the Meranarena. The event will feature the Singles disciplines (Women and Men) in the Novice, Junior and Senior categories and will be conducted in accordance with the ISU Constitution and General Regulations 2021, the Special Regulations & Technical Rules Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance 2021, and the relevant ISU Communications.

These competitions are completely made up of Italian and Austrian skaters. But the size of the Ladies fields is impressive (pity that the Men's competitions each have only one entry).

Still think it is so strange that we have two international figure skating events in the South Tyrol being held on the same weekend. Admittedly, there is no overlap, because the Merano event is just Singles Skating, while the Egna-Neumarkt event is just Ice Dancing. But, still. It divides the fans.

I would bet money that Maurizio will be at Merano. For goodness sake, when you have a choice between an international competition that is 20 miles from home, or an international competition that is 800 miles away, where you have to go through all the COVID red-tape that is involved in travelling to a different country, there is no choice. You go to the competition that is up the road.

I think he entered both because there is always the chance an event is cancelled with short notice because of Covid. And he clearly didn't want us to start the month without seeing Alice.
