2023 Maria Olszewska Memorial

The 2023 Maria Olszewska Memorial will take place Mar 16-19, 2023, in Lodz, Poland, at the Bombonierka ice rink. This international event will feature all the figure skating disciplines at the Novice, Junior and Senior levels.

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the 2022 ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the 2022 ISU Special Regulations & Technical Rules Single & Pair Skating and Ice Dance, ISU Communication 2468 Ice Dance Requirements for Technical Rules season 2022/23, and relevant ISU Communications.

I just looked at the Time Schedule that @Andrea82 posted, and noticed that all the Ice Dancers start their campaigns on the evening of Wednesday 15th.

Incidentally, there are Non-ISU Singles competitions being held on Wednesday morning / afternoon, but I can't find the Entries / Results page for them.

I feel so sorry for the Solo Dancers. The first batch (Junior & Senior SD) doesn't even start until 20:55 CET on Wednesday night, and the last batch (Advanced Novice PD2) finishes at 00:27 CET on Thursday morning! And then they have to go out again on Thursday afternoon to do their Free Dances!

Mmmmm. Disappointed that they are having one stream for all of today's action. I was hoping there would be a stream for the Singles skating, and then a different stream for the Ice Dance & Solo Dance.

By having an all-day stream, if the livestream gets archived, the 12 hour limit will set in before the Solo Dance competitions even start. In fact, it will kick in shortly after the start of the Advanced Novice Ice Dance PD2 segment, so all of the Junior and Senior Short Dances will be lost as well.

Such a shame.

Oh, I thought we were starting with a combined group. Well, I suppose it would have been strange having the oldest skater of the morning in the same group as the youngest skaters.

We have 14 girls, arranged into two groups of 7. Sorry, make that 13 girls, arranged into a group of 6; then a group of 7. Because Skater #3 from Toruń has withdrawn.

Aha! Now I know why the computer was acting so slow. Windows Update was running in the background!

Oh, I wish they would bring back asking you before they started downloading updates. Because I hate this downloading things in the background, slowing everything down without you knowing why.

Well, because this is a stream that can't be paused or re-wound, it's just going to have to wait until the break between the Singles Skaters and the Ice Dancers to be re-started.

We stay with the Initial girls, but move from the Under 9's to the Under 12's. 15 girls in total, arranged into a group of 7; then a resurfacing; then a group of 8.

Sorry, for the second competition in a row we have lost a skater from Group 1. Due to the withdrawal of Skater #4 from Warsaw, we now have 6 girls before the resurfacing.

My goodness! It's not just Skater #4 that has withdrawn from Group 1. So have Skaters #6 (from Lublin) and #7 (from Warsaw).

So, we went from a group of 7 skaters to a group of 4.

All of which means that we have gone to the first resurfacing 10 minutes earlier than originally scheduled.

The Under 12's finished earlier than scheduled, and the next group were a bit too keen to get started their Warm-Up. They went out as soon as the last girl finished, and had to be called back to the gate to wait for 5 mintues.

We stay with the Initial skaters, but we have something a mixture of competitions taking us up to the Opening Ceremony. A group containing two Under 9 boys and the first 5 Under 15 girls; followed by a group containing the final 6 Under 15 girls.

No, this isn't right.

The second boy, from Opole, has withdrawn. Which means that the first boy, from Warsaw, is the only boy left.

As a result, during the Warm-Up, we had one wee boy on the ice alongside a whole bunch of bigger girls. And he looked terrified!

No, he should have been put in with the girls of his own age that skated earlier on.

Oh, since we had two Martas skating in a row, it was skater #3 Marta JANOWSKA (Warsaw) that I was talking about. Or, to put it another way, the one that was wearing glasses.

Now that the Initial level competitions are over, it is time to start into the Bronze level competitions. There are no Under 9's this time, so we have the Under 12's taking us up to the resurfacing. Just one group of 6 girls.

Correction, 5 girls. The last girl that was due to skate, who is from Warsaw, has withdrawn.
