Georgia is in 7th with some 800 points less than France

The GPs points are obviously not going to change. THe ISU Championships points could be altered if skaters do better than at 4CC or Euros... However, let's not forget that points are worth more for worlds... so it does seem to help the favourites.

Not just if they do better, if they compete and earn points at all. (Happened in 2019, Cain/LeDuc finished 9th at Worlds and 4th at 4CC, but the points from Worlds were counted)

I see... I thought it was the "best points count" ... at the same time then, it's fairer that way... because points for worlds are higher (maybe not in the case you are showing)

Somebody on Wikipedia beat me to it! Oh well. I thought it would be interesting to see which skaters were contributing which points.

Still really hoping that SK qualifies a spot, and that they are able to send a dance team and/or pair, so that they can compete. Japan, Canada and USA have competed in every Team Trophy, Russia obviously is out, and two of France, Italy and China have always made up the rest of the six teams. It would be fun to have a new country there this year.

Looking at the countries rounding out the top 10, I am wondering if Switzerland and/or Finland might be among the new countries qualifying for the team event at the next Olympics.

I'd love to have "shared" teams, two smaller countries who each bring in two disciplines.

I would love to see an increase in the number of teams competing at the WTT. And what you describe could be a way of doing it.

I like it.

We have seen actually this done before, most notably at the Youth Olympics where all the teams in the Team Trophy are like this.

We also had it at the Team Challenge Cup, but the less said about that event the better. Good idea in theory, but the way it was put into practice was a disaster. Which is probably why, after the first edition in 2016, it has never been held again.

Looking at flags, a Latvian-Austrian cooperation would be perfect 😅

🇱🇻 🇦🇹

Yeah, that would look cool!

Although, I do have a suspicion that the flag story is an attempt to disguise that you actually just want to get your hands on Deniss... :p

Unfortunately, there have never been any Austrians competing in the Team Trophy at the Youth Olympics. But, at the second edition in 2016, we did come very close to that combination of colours with the Singles skaters in "Team Discovery", Deniss VASIĻJEVS (LAT) and Fruzsina MEDGYESI (HUN).

🇱🇻 🇭🇺

Just half a stripe out! :drama:

I'd take Estonia-Australia collaboration :hap10:

🇪🇪 🇦🇺

Like the Austrians, there have never been any Australians competing in the Team Trophy at the Youth Olympics. But, there were Estonians in two teams at the first edition in 2012.

In Team 7, Ice Dancers Victoria-Laura LÕHMUS / Andrei DAVÕDOV were partnered up with Micol CRISTINI (ITA) and LEE June-Hyoung (KOR).

🇮🇹 🇰🇷 🇪🇪

In Team 8, Ladies skater Sindra KRIISA (who I usually refer to as the partner in crime of the inaugural Ladies Champion, Liza Tuktamysheva) was partnered up with Timofei NOVAIKIN (FRA) and Alexandra NAZAROVA / Maxim NIKITIN (UKR).

🇪🇪 🇫🇷 🇺🇦

Nah, these flag combinations don't have the same ring to them.

Ahaha - well, they may like to participate and may need a woman and a pair, so 😁
Not only the flags fit, also the disciplines. E.g. Austria would have no chance to get together with a country lacking an ID team.

INFO updated on WIKI

Korea passed Italy and France and is now 4th in the rankings. Their team would be complete if Cho and Adcock can participate and Hannah and Ye tweak their programs to fit senior ice dance requirements.

Italy and France didn't get all their potential scores for women but they do have skaters who can be called in.

Thank you. Additional thought, Based worlds Japan more likely to win. U.S could walk home without medal dependent on who goes. South Korea and Italy could medal. It depends on who their federations are sending .It depends if Ilia , Isabella, Alexia and Brandon, Madison and Evan chooses not to go.

Usually, skaters want to go because the prize money is huge.
I don't expect Canada to remain in third place... most of the point earned by Canadians are in Ice dance and pairs, which count for less in that format... So it's really between Japan and the USA. South Korea is only strong in singles. They rely on a junior (though very good) ice dance team and a pair that is good but has never competed internationally. Italy is strong in all disciplines but women.

I think that that the two men for the United States at the World Team Trophy will be Ilia Malin and Jason Brown. Jason didn't do the GP this season but he had a spectacular World Championships.

From the ISU announcement: "Furthermore, in case that one or more of the best ranked Skaters/Couples (in the ISU World Standings valid after the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2023) of a Qualified ISU Member elects not to participate, the ISU reserves the right to exclude such Team from the competition and to invite instead the ISU Member/s whose Team is ranked next in the ISU World Team Trophy qualification list."

So generally countries will send most of their highest-ranked skaters, unless they have a large number of similarly ranked skaters (like, for example, Japan in singles, or Korea in women's).

In terms of just WS (without taking into account things like injuries, etc.), the teams would look like this:

JPN: Shoma Uno, Kazuki Tomono - Kaori Sakamoto, Mai Mihara - Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara - Kana Muramoto/Daisuke Takahashi

USA: Ilia Malinin, Jason Brown - Isabeau Levito, Audrey Shin (but there are 3 US skaters within 4 spots on the WS list, so they might opt for a different skater) - Alexa Knierim/Brandon Frazier - Madison Chock/Evan Bates

CAN: Keegan Messing, Wesley Chiu - Madeline Schizas, Kaiya Ruiter - Deanna Stellato-Dudek / Maxime Deschamps - Piper Gilles / Paul Poirier

KOR: Junhwan Cha, Sihyeong Lee - Haein Lee, Yelim Kim (They're likely to opt for Chaeyeon Kim instead) - Hye Jin Cho/Steven Adcock* (haven't yet competed internationally) - Hannah Lim/Ye Quan

ITA: Daniel Grassl, Matteo Rizzo - Lara Naki Gutmann, Marina Piredda (might send one of their other women instead) - Rebecca Ghilardi/Filippo Ambrosini (likely to opt for Sara Conti/Niccolo Macii instead) - Charlene Guignard/Marco Fabbri

FRA: Adam Siao Him Fa, Kevin Aymoz - Lea Serna, Lorine Schild - Camille Kovalev / Pavel Kovalev - Evgeniia Lopareva / Geoffrey Brissaud

Thank you !!!! Is it possible that Canada could send Conrad or anyone else? I am not against Wesley but his outing at junior worlds was difficult to watch as he crumbled psychologically... and sure, Conrad didn't help his case not qualifying for the LP but only made one mistake and had just broken his blade... so yeah... I don't know... my personal preference would be Conrad but if the rules are clear and it's not possible, I would stop hoping :)

I always wondered why Roman had this training camp in Japan around early March (?) when he wasn't going there for Worlds.
Now I realise WTT is in Japan as well.
Coincidence? Or did someone tell him they miiiight send him there? Like with a chance of 10%? 😅
