FAQ

Q: Where are the time schedules/starting orders/livestream links for (domestic competition)?
A: Will be posted when they are available on this thread, except the Ranking Competition and Nationals which will have their own threads.

Q: Isn't there an entries/live results page for (domestic competition)?
A: No, there isn't. At least the KSU isn't sharing the link they use for the officials. That is why I post all the necessary info in text form.

Q: What exactly are all those domestic competitions and why are there so many of them?
A: To answer the latter first, it's because 1) KSU would rather make skaters compete and use the results than coming up with elaborate selection criteria because they just cannot be bothered to gather their sorely lacking braincells to do so and 2) they exist not only for the top elite skaters but for Korean skaters in general. Short rundown of the major domestic competitions mentioned above:
- JGP Selections: decides who gets JGP tickets.
- Universiade Selections: decides who gets to go to the Winter Universiade.
- Ranking Competition: one of the two criteria for National Team selection and doubles as 4CC selections.
- Nationals: the other criterion for National Team selection and doubles as Worlds selections.
-National Figure Skating Competition: competition of a national scale that is of less import than the Ranking Competition or Nationals. Will include much fewer internationally recognized names.
- National Winter Sports Festival: a multi-sport national event *under the Korean Sports & Olympic Committee's jurisdiction*. Skaters have to qualify via regional qualifiers and it's technically the 'biggest' domestic competition scale-wise. Is of import especially because the results of NWSF can be used for the skater's college portfolio.

Q: Do skaters have to do all these domestic competitions?
A: The Ranking Competition and Nationals are a must if you want to be a part of next season's NT and get to compete in 4CC/Worlds, there is no bye system. Selection competitions are also required if the skater wishes to be selected, obviously. NWSF is as mentioned necessary for college portfolios. I know there are always concerns regarding injuries/health issues because of all the competitions but 1)the system is pretty much fixed and 2)it's not just all the competing that causes injuries/health issues, it's more complicated than that.

Q: Why do non-senior eligible skaters compete as seniors in domestic competitions?
A: Korea has a 'level' system called 급수 in Korean and it signifies the 'level' of a skater's skills. For example, to gain the 7th level a woman must be able to jump 2 out of 3Lo/3F/3Lz and a man must be able to jump a 3-3 combination (as well as the requirements for the lower levels, it goes without saying). There are up to 8 levels, and 7th and 8th level skaters are considered domestic seniors regardless of their age. Similarly 5th and 6th level skaters are considered domestic juniors regardless of age. Also of note, you need to be 7th level or higher to get international assignments for major competitions including the JGP circuit.

Q: Is KSU that incompetent and idiotic as described so vehemently by Ichat?
A: Ichat says yes. KSU cannot and does not give a fig about our skaters and will just do the bare minimum if they actually put in some work. Korean fans laugh when there are speculations of "the Korean fed's influence" or something similar because KSU has neither the capability or actual interest to politick. Don't expect KSU to make sense to suffer less.

(There are more often-asked questions but right now I can't remember all of them, will answer if asked)

Bonus - some junior skaters to watch out for at JGP selections

Men: Yu Donghan (junior national champion)
Women: Kim Jiyu (junior Ranking Competition champion), Jang Harin (junior National champion), Hur Jiyu (has a 3-3), Jin Jueun (has a 3-3), Park Inkyong (not the best jumper but she is a delight) + Kim Minsong, Lee Hyowon, Kim Gunhee (either has a 3-3 or charm, has to wait and see the results of the second level test in July for JGP selections eligibility)

is there an actual criminal ramification against Haein Lee and Young You with their sexual harassment against the minor? or none since it happened abroad?

I get that the ban was from the federation but no actual criminal punishment from the law?

Haein Lee and Young You are the only 2 adults in that training camp and also based on the blurry images posted by the news, it is easily identifiable that its Haien and Young just by their costumes alone.

I didn't see the picture but looking at the name list.... I'd rather not speculate for the victim's sake, but it's hard to when you list out only three senior skaters at that camp. I can wish only the best for the Junior Skater, I hope he's doing alright all things considered. Thank you.

We can't see Jia Shin until the 2025/26 season, right? Maybe yelim kim can rise to her greatness this season (was she injured or simply having inconsistencies and confidence issues) and maybe dabin choi will return? Or the newly minted world bronze medalist can wow everyone this season.

I guess my girl Chayeon is going to the Olympics. What a sordid state of affairs.
Do you mean Kim chayeon, the newcomer who won bronze at worlds? Her ticket is basically already punched? What about new upstarts who will become senior right before the olympic season and manage to overtake her?

Day 2 livestream link:

Things of note:
- Two new junior ice dance teams, the fact that Namu had found a new partner after splitting with Jinny was known so Breau/Lee was expected, but Yoo/Grant was a complete surprise as neither skater was well-known to Korean fans. Apparently Zachary Grant was a solo ice dancer before teaming up with Jihu while Jihu is basically an unknown at this point, so I have no idea how they're going to look.
- The biggest surprise is the fact that Kwon Minsol, 2-time JGPF skater, is not on the entry list. So far there is no information as to why this is.
- Other names that were expected by Korean fans (including myself) such as Park Inkyong, Jin Jueun, and Kim Yeeun are also not on the list, again we have no idea why.
- As there are only 5 entries in junior men all skaters will be given two JGP spots, it's a pity that the leftover 4 tickets will not be used but

-So far no information about streaming, will update when the link(s) appear.
