What a stacked entries list! This will be so interesting to see debut performances from new U.S. team, Fredette/ Siianytsia, along with a surprising comeback from Hanns/ Neudecker (I thought they had decided to retire and coach full time; I wonder if they are being coached by Larry Ibarra -- Sappenfield's adopted son?).

In addition, senior international debuts by McBeath/Parkman and Efimova/ Mitrofanov. Also, senior debut of Williams/ Lewer; second senior season of Martins/ Bedard; ongoing comeback of Chan/ Howe post Spencer's shoulder surgery -- I hope this will be a clean slate and a good showing from Emily & Spencer. As well, we get to see new programs of Digerness/ Sadusky -- Mark has posted on IG at least one of their program music selections, choreographed by Drew Meekins (check the new programs thread); Nica & Mark are now being coached by the WASA pairs coaches.

I am also curious to see what Ellie and Danny have in store this season, in addition to the Italians, Ghilardi/ Ambrosini. Both those teams had great programs last season. G/A had worked with former ice dancer, Luca Lanotte, who gave them some entertaining programs that helped camouflage their weaknesses.

From Mark's IG, their sp music is 'I like it like that' (Pete Rodriguez), choreo by Sonja Hilmer.

Nica and Mark competed at this past weekend's Cup of Colorado on top of podium, 59.49 in sp vs Hanns/ Neudecker, 45.83. In fp, Nica & Mark scored 106.51 (tot. 166) vs H/N fp score of 89.66 (tot. 135.49).

Since Mark & Nica have already competed, someone must know their fp music.

This is a tough prediction. It really could go any number of ways. I think most of the top U.S. teams entered are closely matched in abilities, and in strengths and weaknesses.

I would pick the Italians for gold, but it's not a given. The other positions are a crapshoot between Kam/ O'Shea; McBeath/ Parkman; Chan/ Howe; and Efimova/Mitrofanov; plus Laurin/ Ethier could factor in the top five if they skate clean and others falter.

The Uzbekistan team are transplanted Russians probably coached by Dmitry Savin. Apparently, they are newly partnered, but they could still be fairly competitive.

They're not exactly a new team and are also not coached by Dmitry Savin. This will be their third season together and their coaches are Nina Mozer and Vladislav Zhovnirsky.

Last season, their (obviously domestic) highest score was 206.12, their lowest 175.71, with most scores in the low to mid 190s, if that helps anyone to judge their competitiveness.
They did 3Tw, 3F and 3FTh in the SP and attempted 3Tw, 3F+2A+2A, 3Lo, 3FTh and 3LoTh in the Free. Their BoDs (mandatory in the Short this season) didn't get high levels last season, but BoDs are not easy for most pairs teams.

i see them falling in a similar score bracket as pavlova / sviatchenko (HUN). like them, they have similar good technical elements (throws, sbs, twist, lifts), but don't have the best DSp and are unlikely, as new intl team, to get good PCS.

Yes, their PCS won't be particularly high internationally like for P/S, but I do think they are likely to score a bit higher than P/S when both teams are clean due to their more difficult jump elements (there's almost a 3 point total difference in BV across both programs).

We'll see how G/C handle competing internationally though, they're not very experienced with major competitions (even Nationals) after all.

Thanks for the info. I do not follow Russian pairs. G/C are obviously newly repping Uzbekistan in order to develop as a team outside of Russia.

Yep, we shall see how they fare internationally. But their team obviously feel they have a good chance to excel and thus desired to get them international experience and exposure.

Even if you did, it would have been fairly easy to miss them. They didn't compete at any major competitions last season, nor did they compete at Nationals the season before.
Seems like their switch to Uzbekistan was more well-planned than some other skaters wanting to switch.

^^ I have heard their names previously. I just do not frequent Russian pairs threads nor do I make any effort to follow all the info about splits and new pairings among Russian pairs. I have also heard of Chirigev previously in connection with his girlfriend, Evgenia Medvedeva.

Below is a FS Gossips article which explains G/C's repatriation process. It was driven by Chigirev's desire to leave Russia. They purposely did not compete at Russian Nationals recently in order to avoid having a more difficult time repatriating. LOL at Tatiana Tarasova's quoted comments: "Let them move to Uzbekistan or any other team. They can go anywhere! This is no loss for us... Our leading athletes stay with us and the tenth places can go wherever they want." 👀 🤣

After looking at G/C's skating, I agree they have the vaunted Russian technique foundation, which is wonderful. But, they are still young, and learning. It remains to be seen how they will adjust to the international scene with such limited competitive experience. It will also be interesting to see how ISU judges will view them. They have sound basics, but they do not seem to have a lot of speed. The wheels are visibly turning in their heads as they perform, which is normal for a young team. They are 18 and 23, but they appear to be younger. Sometimes judges overlook the lack of maturity when a technically sound 'Russian' team skates clean. But yes, their PCS should not be high. Right now, of course, they lack maturity and a defined style. If the top, more experienced teams skate fairly clean, their PCS should be much higher than this young team.

With this top-notch lineup, I hope the rink at John Nicks event will not have the visually obstructive cloudy vapor rising from the ice as was the situation last season. 🫣
