NICE SKATE!!!
60.12!!!

The fed should send Kei and Mayuko out to a Junior Challenger
I will always be mad at JSF for not pushing Kei to the JGP. She is so talented!! A strong skater and great performer. Despite consistency issues I think she could've been a great addition to the junior team and I think some international experience would be great for her, especially if they had started giving it to her a couple years ago:confused:

If I see Ryoga Morimoto, Hayato Okazaki or Ryota Mori throwing 3As even somewhat successfully I'm gonna be pissed with the fed~
BUMP

I'm exhausted so going to have nap before working on Summer Cup Day 2 video
Going to watch Mori Ryoto's SP on loop until I doze off

There is limited amount of spots to JGP. If one girl gets it, someone else will not.
(Junior b competitions aren't that important. All they give is minimum tes to JWC and some minimal experience - not that much, they are low pressure anyway.)

7 jgp spots (7x2=14) and 11 girls fighting for them: Kushida, Nakai, Takagi, Shimada, Murakami, Yamada, Wada, Okada, Oka, Uezono, Kono. And there is Nakao, Kawakatsu and Ohtake around too. Next year Kanazawa, Enomoto and Hanai will come.
How is this supposed to work? ಠ_ಠ

I think this is why it’s important to utilize them though. The last time JSF had so many active and competitive juniors, they actually utilized challengers more often which was more beneficial to them in the long run. Opening up international opportunities, no matter how small, still generates consistency and confidence that could help them make it to a bigger assignment.
It’s just going to be a game of consistency and who can deliver the highest results for JGP the next couple seasons. A good bit of them will be moving senior too, so it shouldn’t be much crazier for the new juniors

Careful, we have to differentiate between Challengers and Senior/Junior-Bs.

Challengers are Senior-only, held during the first half of the season, limited to three entries per country per discipline and (most importantly!) are eligible for official ISU PBs and SBs, which can be instrumental for GP spots.
B competitions are held in both Junior and Senior categories during the whole season without any entry limits. While skaters can achieve (Jr) Worlds/4CC minimums and a modest amount of WS points, they cannot achieve official ISU PBs/SBs.

JSF sending more skaters to Challengers, while highly advisable in my opinion, would not be helping the crowded situation in Juniors, just in Seniors.

I 100% agree with you. Junior B competitions are very good for skaters with very little to no experience.
But imo outside of that their value is very limited. Most importantly, theiy don't give SB.
From that POV I can even understand JSF's decision to not send juniors to Bavarian Open or Challenger Cup. Skaters who already went to jgp don't need them that much. Juniors number 10, 11 or 12 likely won't make use of that experience. So imo last season they could send Oka and Kono to junior and novice competitions based on their surprise top10 placements at junior nats. Also Wada going to jgp was just a matter of time (and she should already last season, grrrr). But that's it.

Only at JGP, JWC and YOG you can get SB. Only these are relevant. Especially for 16 yo girls trying to switch to seniors next season.
There is a reason why USA, Canada, Korea or China almost never send their skaters there. Because for what?

Yeah I understand the constraints with them, and logically it doesn’t make sense to send skaters often, but I also think it’s a valuable experience that does help with international pressures. Sometimes sending a skater who’s only ever competed domestically into a major international just hurts them more and we never get to see them again, even when they rebuild confidence and/or turn senior. I just think it could be a helpful tool when used properly, especially when the pools are so deep and most skaters just need a little extra push

The problem is we have currently a lot of good junior ladies, so she needs to stand out to get some international competition

I think JSF needs to be a bit more cautious about the fact that Ikura, Ami, and Yo all turn senior next season. Not saying all these skaters will leave the junior circuit, but with the depth in Japan it and those 3 being some of these most accomplished, it's likely they will. When Japan had a huge influx of "new juniors" in 2022, almost all of them had international experience already which definitely helped them be at such high levels of performance already. It worries me a bit that so many of the girls who may be receiving jgp spots in the 2025/26 season have so little experience outside their country!

Yeah I think the problem is that once JSF decides to overlook a skater they are kind of out of contention for the long run😭

I don't think it's that likely. To switch to seniors and go to GP they will need relatively high SB. Something around 185-190 I believe. Will they reach it? It shouldn't be a problem for Nakai (*knocks on wood*), but Takagi and Kushida will need to do their best to achieve it.
And the amount of spots in seniors is limited too (and decided by ISU rules). If they go, someone else wll not. OTOH in seniors there are some pending retirements (Aoki? Higuchi? Mihara? they could very well skate for next 2-3 years or retire right after next senior nats)
