Clean Kara! :cheer: It looks like the coaching change is helping with the underrotations :) I wish that there was a livestream, it looks like Sophie Joline von Felten attempted a 3A in the combo, but fell. Also interesting that there's a bonus for attempting a 3-3, it negated the fall deduction in some cases.

Ava Kemp scored 33.50 in Novice Women.

I didn't know she changed coach, where did she move to?
I think it was mentioned in the Canadian thread that she moved to the Granite Club. David Bondar and Kemp/Elizarov are at the Granite Club and competing here as well, so it makes sense that she'd be here instead of the BC/YT June competition.

Kara was amazing based on the protocols. I’m glad she made the change to a new team. I don’t like Joanne Macleod. Megan also skated well. But, her SP’s are usually decent followed by her FP’s with a lot of falls.

Looks like Canada has almost the same JGP entries as last year, on lock:

Lulu - Lock
Guaranteed with her 10th place finish at Junior Worlds
Hetty - Lock
Will be part of the National team due to her bronze medal at Nationals. They can’t leave a member off the National team from the Junior squad
Uliana - Lock
Just missed bronze. Super consistent skater. 4th at Senior Nationals last season. Should have been bronze
Aleksa - Almost lock
2nd at Junior Nationals and Challenger behind Lulu. Unless, she has a catastrophic skate at Next Gen, she is in
Kara - Almost lock
To me, she was solid with 7th place (150+ skate at her JGP event). She was okay at Challenger with a bronze medal. But, her skate at Nationals was bad. This SP though, is making it look like Nationals was the unusual performance
Rose - 50/50
9th at Senior Nationals. Rose is the only skater vulnerable. Sandrine and Mely Ann are the only other viable alternatives with a chance to knock off Rose or one of Kara/Aleksa.

Stavrina has no chance due to the horrific performance at Trigslav. Lucille and Reese had outside chances. But, with this SP result, and the fact they performed a bit worse than the above six last season, I’d almost write them off. Megan, maybe has a 10% chance if she skates lights out at NextGen.

Happy for David S. He skated an okay SP. Same, with Bruce

Yohnathan - So handsome. However, singles will never happen. The jumps are a huge weakness of his. I wonder why Ava and Yohnathan decided to skate. Maybe, to get a feel for the ice prior to their Pairs event.

Glad to see David S. perform so well! His mom organized a gofundme for him here https://www.gofundme.com/f/join-my-journey-to-the-podium

Looking forward whether Kirk can make it to the podium, but happy that LoPinto and Fegan did good in the short.

They could also want to practice harder jumps in a competition setting. The jump rules for pairs are changing in 2026-27 (Axel sequences limited to 2 Axels, Juniors can only do a 2 jump combo in the free.)

He tried a 3Lz here, so I'm wondering if that could be the reason. I don't know how he'd do with the Challenge Minimum Score, or if that's his intention. I'm interested to see if this is a one-off for them.

yeah... i agree... i think it's good for Ava and Yoni to keep training a bit of singles to help their pairs training. More skaters should do this. When I look at very successful pair skaters like Duhamel or Séguin, they did both pairs and singles for as long as they could do both.

Ava/Yohnatan had the pairs combo spin in their planned elements, but that's a requirement for next season and only passed last week.

David Bondar over David Shteyngart for Canadian Junior Men. He had the most success with 3As here, and had a 4S in his planned content. And Kirk Haugeto over Aleksandr Fegan for the American Junior Men.

Rougher skate for Kara based on the number of falls. Also not sure how the 3A is working out for Sophie Joline van Felten in competition.
1) Kara still won overall 😜 148.27 🥇
(All those falls at the end though. I think four falls) But, her 3Lz 3T seems solid
2) Reese 140.51🥈
Not a bad debut. She is attempting 3T 3T (this is a minimum requirement for JGP selection)
3) Sophie 136.11
It goes to show you, it doesn’t matter if you can land 3A in practice. Everything else matters too
4) Megan 135.30
Like usual. She falls apart in the FP. Canada almost swept the podium
5) Lucille 130.44

Hi all, good [time of the day].
Can I post links as a new user? On this website you can find videos from this competition (and I think it's rather official?).
Have fun watching, I'm now back to reading only. :)
Thank you so much for the video links :thank: I was hoping to see some of the performances from it based on the protocols :)

Congrats to Marie-Raphaele Savoie!!
Another win for Canada 🇨🇦
Winner of free skate. Total score: 155.20
I believe she skated lights out at Quebec Sectionals last season
Only to finish 22nd at challenger and missed Nationals
Hoping she makes it to Nationals this season. She is off to a good start

Also, kudos to Maya Isabelle. Her jumps are huge and this is a good result for her. 138.17 score here is not far off the 140.03 to have made Canadian Nationals last season.

I watched a few of the videos while I'm waiting for the ice dance free of BC/YK.

- I like that David Bondar kept his Pirates of the Caribbean free. He can grow into it more with the performance, he's a bit of a serious pirate. He looked a bit more confident here, so hopefully he can have some fun with it by Nationals.
- Kara's falls in the free looked rough :( I like Winner Takes It All for her.
- I really hope Sophie Joline van Felten and her coach rethink the 3A strategy. Maybe cut it to one attempt in the free and then wait until it's working there before trying it in the short?
- Yohnatan's short was the same one he did for Junior Nationals
- I liked Kemp/Elizarov's short, it's got potential
- always nice to watch Bruce skate, I hope he gives solo dance a try

They're looking more long term as opposed to just success these upcoming seasons. They just want her to be practicing it in competition as much as possible pretty much.
