I just finished watching the last group of the Men's FS. Congrats to Ilia such a talented young man, well done! Kevin was just amazing I am in love with his FS, the music and the choreography are first rate. Kao is growing on me, powerful skater. Congrats to the Medalists:clap:
Shout out to Deniss, no medal here but both his programs were amazing and something he should be proud of!!!

I have no access to US figure skating commentary, but to me it always sounds as if Johnny would be a perfectly decent commentator if Tara wasn't involved? If you watch solo interviews with him, he behaves like a completely sane person. :scratch2:
No, I don't think so. When he's not doing commentary he might be fine. But, as a commentator he offers nothing. He's very biased towards a particular type of skater. ( We are all but you can like a particular skater without being completely dismissive of those you don't like) They are both just irritating and catty.

Former ice dancers are, almost always, great commentators. They notice the details and were generally mature enough people while doing competitive skating to actually be able to communicate what it feels like to be a skater and to give actual informative ,detailed comments. Tanith, Charlie, Ben Agosto, Mark, and now Jean-Luc have all offered interesting, detailed, informative, respectful commentary. Just have the ice dancers do it.

All of that sounds better than the guy who commentated on the ISU stream this time. Ted? He has nothing of interest to say AND butchers skaters' names. Rinka Watanabi, my god. Tim Dick, ouch. I prefer Mark.

I actually like the Tara and Johnny banter... but i completely agree....I love the ice dancers as commentators, something about all of them are so articulate and sound non biased...my favorite of the ice dancer as commentator is Tanith....she's splendid and obviously beautiful to look at

I think Ted is great. He is calm and measured and I vastly prefer him to the "mean girl" vibe of Tara and Johnny.

He does better with Mark as his partner, they feed off of each other. Also they make Ted talk during the senior skates, when his preference is to shut up and let the skaters skate.

Ted mangles *everyone's* name, including Anglophone names. It doesn't bother me, and I was a language major in college during the Dark Ages who loved learning pronunciations and languages, loved loved loved it. (Western languages, sadly my experience in Eastern languages is limited.). I'd rather have that than Johnny's perfect Russian pronunciations and catty comments

It pisses me off with Japanese names. Japanese is a super easy to pronounce language and some of the best modern skaters are Japanese. You'd think he'd do some research in advance.

Ted handles commentating on so many competitions with so many names, they all bound to sound the same to him, particularly when he has to watch for things that need to be mentioned in life stream. My mom is an avid fan, but she is in her seventies and despite being sharp, she never had an ear for foreign languages. I play the game of guessing the name she means from a vague description every darn day, even if she watched the skater for years (not aided by her tendency to watch every competition she can get her hands on).

Yesterday it was:

'Our fav Estonian guy...'

'Which Selevko?'

'No, gosh, why Selevko? Trains with Lambiel.'

(I'll give you the correct answer via DM if you didn't get that one).

And, unlike Ted, Mom is retired so she literally can focus on skating on the day of competition. The only Japanese names she was ever able to remember from the get go were Shoma, Wada and Shimada. She's getting better with Kao Miura but it's messing up with her ability to keep him separate from Kaori. Shun Sato and Sota Yamamoto as four separate names of 2 different skaters...well, this battle had been lost hand down last year; I'm no longer even fighting it. I go by emotion in her voice to figure out who she means.

I agree..as far as I’m concerned Kevin is the entire package…all I see from Ilia are jumps..I don’t see any improvement in his choreography, posture, interpretation or artistry..he just jumps skates and jumps again.
I have to agree. His posture is not great and makes the whole skate look sloppy. They are giving him that sort of fake artistry just for show. You can tell he is not really understanding or feeling his music. I believe they concentrated for so long on the jumps that they are now trying to slap on some artistry and it just doesn't work that way.

I find it oddly endearing when Ted messes up the names. He genuinely loves skating and loves the skaters. He's not afraid to say something about a skater making mistakes, but he always tries to be positive and concentrate on the possibilities. And he was an ice dancer, I believe. Johnny and Tara were brilliant in 2014, but once they became NBC Team A, they were clearly directed to be just as insipid as they made the previous commentators be. And to be biased cheerleaders to try to build hype. They have been better, they can be be better, but they are paid to do what they do. The only remnant of 2014 are the clothes and that happened so naturally and spontaneously in 2014 and now it's calculated and overdone. Mark Henretty is terrific. He knows what he's talking about and doesn't sugar coat. Jean Luc has tried hard to get us into the mindset and competition life of skaters. It's been very interesting. I hope he keeps doing this. I wish Johnny and Tara would go a bit rogue, but they want their paychecks. And I think the casual skating viewer responds well to them, because it's not very detailed. Jean Luc's audience was skating fans and he talked to them. I think Ted appeals to the more casual viewer. Fewer details but lots of commentary. I would prefer him to what J&T have become. I agree that Tanith and Ben are terrific commentators. But I think Tanith is too busy with the skating school and her family to do commentary.

I thought the commentator on the ISU feed was quite pleasant actually. He had a nice voice and didn't talk much over the skates, which is most important. No matter how interesting and informative the commentary (and that's in the best case scenario :p), nothing is worse than people talking non-stop over a skate: then you can't properly hear the music not be into the skate.

And, another plus, he really liked Kevin. He compared basically every other skater to Kevin, and his conclusion was always the same: no one compares to Kevin

Can someone explain why Deniss received so low PCS of 81.72? I was expecting something like 88? At last Worlds his PCS was 87.65.
In love with his FS. Shame on you judges!
The world has lost a great ballet dancer in Deniss but FS surely gained something very special.

His mom was a dancer. His FS is so great. And his pc's were low, but I hope by Worlds he will get closer to 90.

I like Jason but this program even weaker jumps aside as today doesn't do him justice. It's forgettable and the music is too monotonous for my liking.

Litvintsev's FS was empty in choreography department and the tech elements did not compliment the music for me either. A good skate though, as he mostly went clean.
