They're lowered, they're lowered! But be honest, even if you don't have much money (and USFS surely put some away!) you can use some taste and imagination to make it look as good as possible. Thank god most of the women put more thought and taste into their dresses than the organisers did into... well, everything, so there was something audience-friendly to look at.
Video of Ashley Wagner 2016 Boston Worlds.. held at the TD Garden. KnC is at 6:50.. just for refererence. 😬

I'm glad Wakana is back. The last part of her free was very good and you could feel her happiness and energy, the rest had so lala choreo.

Rinka doesn't do much for me but she tries. Nice dress.

I actually love Isabeau's FS dress. The murky green and pale pink look very ethereal and it's shorter than ysual, so nit as much if a dishrag at was shevused to wear. It also seem so as if her jumps have slightly better hight than last season? But the toe jump takeoff are jarring as always. Such an elegant skater with beautiful positions and then the jumps take you right out if it.

As for Bradie, Nessun Dorma is one of the few pieces of opera music I like and some very special skaters had some very special moments skating to that music. This wasn't it.

I just watched Levito and the jumping/landings were poor and actually distracting since I had to keep rewinding to figure out what the heck she was doing wrong. Rotations.

Wakaba was lucky to have won against isabeau; she even said so in the press conference: that 70% of her win was luck. Wakaba was lucky that the tech caller was so strict on isabeau. But isabeau still won in pcs; you know that if isabeau hadn't fallen (lucky for wakaba) isabeau would've walked away with 70+ in pcs and a gold medal. When was the last time Wakaba was gifted over 65 points in pcs? Even with her speed and power, the judges do not like her. I feel sorry for wakababy.
The callers were not strict on Levito’s jumps; they were accurate. Plus, her basic skating is generally slower and her ice coverage is smaller than the more powerful skaters. Isabeau’s forte has been her positions, flexibility, and mental game in major events. Shin Amano would have a bloodbath with Levito and all the calls would be accurate. Her jumps have always been problematic, but I give the girl credit for her mental toughness. Her spine must be made of steel. I can only hope that this may start a trend of her being judged more accurately in the future. To say Wakaba’s win was based on luck seems to negate how hard she has worked and how much she has improved after all the setbacks she’s had. Let’s not forget she is an Olympic team silver medalist where she contributed a fine SP performance to her team score, she placed 5th in the women’s Olympics singles event, and she is a World silver medalist herself.

To be honest I am wondering how Sarah and Liu are going to do at their GP events. If this is any indication we are going to see a changing of the guard in US women skating. Nationals is going to be interesting this year to say the least

I wonder if Isabeau is aware of the skating community and the critique she gets with her jumping technique. If so, it must be hard to know that skating fans insists that her jumping is not good. That is not a good place to be emotionally for a 17 yo kid.
Most of the skating community would not be. And GS is probably the nicest skating space.

I would never say Wakaba’s win was based on luck. She’s one of my favorites and I was so pleased to finally see her live and wave the flag of Japan for her.

US Nationals is really going to be a nail biter for the women. It’s totally possible that the reigning World silver medalist may not make the World team. Glenn, Everhardt, Liu, and Lin-Gracey have all beaten or outscored her this season already and Levito’s jumps and results this season have been concerning. Even her winning SP here only scored a 68.
I am not a biggest fan of Isabeau but I would think twice before underestimating her. Liu is a real threat but so far noone else has been consistent, and Glenn has been wildly inconsistent.

There is no comparison between Wakaba and Levito in skating skill and athletic ability. Higuchi is just starting to round back into form and is in a different class than the other skaters in this event.

I agree. Well, okay, there is a wee bit of luck this week, but! Wakaba focused on getting two clean skates with her layout out there (she said so herself) and kept herself close to the top 3 in the SP, and she actually did the 3Lo2A2T combination for the first time in her FS to recover her lost combo because of her second 3Lz struggle (she also only did 2 combos out of 3 so if she had a 3rd combo she probably would have had a higher score). If she had tried a harder layout she can't deliver, or if she hadn't recovered the combo, she wouldn't win the GP. So it's a victory for Wakaba against her past selves too.

In competition ice is slippery, but what mattered was that Wakaba put herself in a position where she could score the most with her condition, and she won with it.

Wasn't her lost combo just a 2T?
