really curious to see who shows up given it is the week after Canadian nationals, same weekend as US nationals, and a week before Europeans.

Usually some Dutchies show up, those not participating in Euros (although last year the pairs couple did both, but that's probably a timing issue as the dates of Bavarian and Euros had a bigger difference between them then). And there is also a juniors segment, and they often can't participate in Euros anyway.

Canada hasn't sent anyone to this competition since 2022 anyway, when they sent two pairs teams. Pre-Covid, Canada held Nationals much earlier (similar time-line as Korean Nationals nowadays) and they sent huge contingents to Bavarian Open (21 skaters/teams across all four disciplines in three age categories in 2020 for example), but those times are probably not coming back.

As for the US, they usually send only a small contingent each season (one Jr man and two Jr pairs last season), so while unfortunate for the few skaters who were hoping to potentially go, it's not a big difference in the grand scheme of things.

As for what to expect? A large Junior & Novice competition (last opportunity to get Jr Worlds CTES minimums and one of the few opportunities for international competition in partnered disciplines in Novices), and a small Sr competition. I'd expect some of the Euros substitutes to show up here and some skaters/teams looking for Worlds minimums (possibly even some of those who are going to Euros, as the cut-off in Ice Dance for example will be brutal).

By the way, the dates also clash with the World University Games (skating happening Jan 16-18), which could affect the Sr Singles and Ice Dance disciplines, but not pairs.

at least there is one more warm-up group for senior men and senior woman than last year. The time table is out. Unfortunately no list of participants - like usual. Tickets are also only available at the venue - like usual
Entry lists will likely be out next week based on past years' timelines. Lots of Germans are actually still on vacation, especially as the 6th is also a National holiday.

Either way, looks like a lot of entries, especially in Juniors.

I hope 'the other' Dutch ID team will be competing there. There's a big rivalry between the two teams!

I was convinced this crashed with Euros, but maybe not. I´m hoping Reitan/Majorov will be doing this competition!
Originally, the Bavarian Open was scheduled to be held a week later, in which case it would have indeed overlapped with Euros.

However, this was changed early on, after the ISU congress voted to make the entry deadline also the deadline to get minimums for ISU champs. This would have meant that the Bavarian Open wouldn't have counted for Jr Worlds anymore - For Jr pairs, this would have meant that their last qualification chance would have been the NRW Trophy in mid-November (!) as the Junior B-event of Golden Spin was cancelled.

Now that you mention it, I had a feeling you had replied this to me before, I think it must have been in the thread were it was discussed who should get Euros.

My memory is terrible. Glad to see that that the dates were changed!

I think my confusion is from the upcoming events list here on GS, it says Euros is held between Jan 20-26, but in fact it´s the week after. No wonder I thought it crashed (again).

The past couple years they've had it a bit earlier, but this is pretty typical timing for Canadian Nats, and for a few years before 2018 it was later than this. It's usually only very early January in Olympic years.

2025: Jan 14-19
2024: Jan 8-14
2023: Jan 9-15
2022: Jan 6-12 *Olympic year
2020: Jan 13-19
2019: Jan 13-20
2018: Jan 8-14 *Olympic year
2017: Jan 16-22
2016: Jan 18-24
2015: Jan 19-25

So I don't know that the change in Canada sending skaters is primarily about the schedule.

maybe trying to save money? I guess you would send someone over to Germany only if they really needed the CTES mins or the WS points?
