Adult beginner, which skates and blade?

Hi, so I have looked myself online but there's so many differnet options for skates and blades that I am scared to make a wrong decision

I thought about buying Edea Overtures but I have no idea what blade to buy...

I can skate forward, can do forward and backward swizzles and I was able to do forward crossovers (I didn't skate at all for the past two years so I'm not sure if I can still do that)

Age: 19
Height: 165cm
Weight: 54kg

Also I'm in Germany in case that's somehow relevant

Help is very much appreciated 🩷

I also thought about Graf Arosa Gold or Risport Antares

Hello and welcome in Golden Skate!
Well, surely Ic3Rabbit and many other experts here will give you the best advices, but I can give you some suggestion meanwhile.
First of all, did you skate the past years with a coach or you were a self-taught skater? Could you tell us what skate and blades you used? That could be helpful for us.
Surely, you MUST NOT buy a skate if you didn't try them, it's fundamental to have the right skate for your own feet and they must fit them perfectly. You should try the skates with a pro fitter, who will help you to choose the skate and blade that are good for you.
I have Overtures with MK Flight as blades, they are super for my level, (I'm still at beginner level) and normally the stiffness for an adult beguinner like you is rated 45-55, from what I have been told. Generally, Edea is excellent for many skaters, but yes there is also Risport who has completely different technique characteristics, but there is also Aura, Jackson, Graf and so on, but the IMPORTANT thing is not the brand you want but the way they fit on your feet.
I hope to be helpful to you! Good luck on your skating journey:)

Hi and welcome. The boot brand you will need will be based on many things, but mostly your foot shape. Would you be able to let us know what that is? You can look at a chart here to compare and figure it out. Once knowing that I can help.

I was self-taught and only skated as a hobby, so not that often.

As for the skates I used they were hockey skates..

With your foot shape you can look into Edea Overture, Risport Electra, or Riedell Stride.
Pair these with a good traditional style intermediate blade such as JW Coronation Ace or MK Pro.
And please see a professional fitter. As far as fitters in Germany, there are some here that can help better with that, the only ones I know of being in Oberstdorf and Filderstadt near Stuttgart.

Good luck!

Thank you so much!

At the shop I'm going to there is a sale on JW Coronation Ace Revolution for 190€, making it less expensive than the normal JW Coronation Ace (240€). Should I get this one instead?

People will typically recommend traditional blades over the Revs, but I'd say for that price, go for the Revs. You might even enjoy them a tons more than the traditional ones. Ace Revs are also a bit better when it comes to catch moves as the other Revs (P99/GS).

It would also be optimal for a tech to check the profile and straightness of the blade (common issues especially with Revs) before putting them on, but if you have a trusted shop then I think it's probably™ fine.

Oh, and makes sure to get a correct size blade depending on what boot you get. Ofc the shop should know, but just fyi, Edeas typically require a shorter blade, and Riedell a longer one, for the same foot size (due to differences in the sole and heel height).

To make it easy, i would just say get skates professionally fit.. and go with a FreeSkate blade. If you have never used any before there is really no wrong choice. You won’t know the difference since you haven’t used any before. There is no magic blade that will make you learn more or better. Blades come down to small differences that are personal preferences and through time you’ll know what kind you want to try or keep. The only thing I say is get it professionally fit because the boot needs to fit your foot properly. Any pro skating store that sells those can help you out. Have fun with it! Don’t stress.

Many people think pro skating store equals pro shop in a rink that knows hockey and just throws the wrong figure skates at people.
Also, with the blades, we suggest the ones we do so they don't end up with flatter rocker blades that will give them even more issues.

That’s assuming You know preferences of said skater. When someone is starting out they’ll figure it out them selves imo. Yes good to know specs of different blades but it truly is overwhelming hence why I said what I said haha.

Then when said skater gets a blade that's too flat in the rocker, and comes back in a few months to complain and ask advice, I won't be the one addressing it lol.B/C from experience, there's a very mini group of skaters who don't mind a flatter rocker, the rest will be unhappy with them. That's why from the get-go here for many reasons and situations I (we) ask the needs, and preferences and well as foot shape(when suggesting boots) of skaters. YMMV.
