and my Bebe has to take a walk. Sobeit.

The house was in an uproar at the end of Czisny's skate. There were a few flubs - but NO falls. She was the favorite underdog who did well.

Meissner had flubs and no falls.
Hughes had flubs and 1 fall
Bebe had 2 falls.

IMO, if it were tthe 6.0 system, I think Alissa would have won. There is nothing like a clean program by the unexpected one.

Great to hear that Alyssa won the LP to pull up to third. I think she is the best overall skater, if she could only get more consistent on the jumps (and get a little more speed — this is noticeable in person). Spins, spirals — she's the best, hands down.

You know even under the 6.0 she still would have at best received 2nd.
Alissa did win the long program.

Under 6.0 judging it would have gone like this:

1. Emily: 3rd and 2nd = factored placement "3.5" (wins tie-breaker over...)
2. Kimmie: 1st and 3rd = factored placement "3.5."
3. Alissa: 6th and 1st = factored placement "4."

One interesting thing is that in her interview after the short and again in her interview today Alissa said that she wanted to go out there and "entertain, not compete."

This makes me wonder what her long term goals in the sport are.

I love, love, love Alissa! So does Uncle Dick by the sounds of it. He was positively beside himself wasn't he?

Is she doing the exhibition? She would make a good pro hunh?
Are they televising the Exhibitions this year? They are so anticlimatic and the skaters all feel they have to do a jazzy number. Whyyyyy?
The exhibition show gets sooooo boring after a while.

It might be an aid to help keep her nerves calmer.

On the other hand, she is a junior in college already and might want to do something with her college degree before the next Olympics. I think she majors in international studies - maybe she'll join Michelle.

Or Johnny Weir. I think Russian is her field of focus.

I loved Alissa ... so sorry she had the mistake in her SP. She had the performance of the day, IMO.

I am so completely underwhelmed with our new national champion
And Peggy describing her footwork as brilliant? Was I watching the right channel?
She skated 2 completely uninspired programs, IMO.
We're in big trouble at Worlds if she's the best hope we have.

Somehow, I don't think the US goverment is going to appoint Johnny to represent the country as an envoy or diplomat. He tends to speak his mind without thinking all the time.

According to the ABC coverage today, she is a 4.0 student at Bowling Green State University. I remember previous interviews where she talks about also taking 2 foreign languages as well.

BTW, I just watched the Ladies Free and hope that Alyssa's success will give her the confidence she needs. I know it's a what-if game, but Alyssa is the best US eligible skater right now when she's able to land her jumps. The others don't match her in spins, stretch, style and maturity.

She's studying Russian and French, neither of which is an easy language to learn.

French is one of the easiest actually. Not saying that to take anything away from her, but French is notably easy, more so then spanish in many opinions.

I completely agree that I think she was trying to calm her own nerves down before she skated her program, and hey, it must have worked because that's the best LP I've seen from her in a long time! :agree: I also think going first in her group helped her out too because she didn't have time to get nervous waiting backstage. She had to warm up and then pretty much go skate her LP and that worked out well for her too. I'm so glad she skated so well today!

Bebe......I'm glad she got the pewter medal (her first ever Nats medal, I think....) but I wish she had skated better. She's a fighter though. *sigh*
