There is something significant from Nationals that I feel should be highlighted here, though. The only person to have represented Cyprus internationally in Men’s skating, Nikita Vitranyuk, is now doing Ice Dance, where he is partnering Maria MILIYKOVA, a 12 year old from Moscow (fskate.ru Bio).

They were due to be guest competitors at the end of Nationals yesterday, but the Ice Dance page hasn't been updated. So I don't know if they did.

I hope they opt to represent Cyprus, as it would be great to see a new country competing in Ice Dance. And it would be nice to see Cyprus represented in another category, having only been represented in Singles up to now.

OK, so I have been a bit quiet lately, but it is now time to make a few announcements.

Firstly, the Fan Fest posts for all the skaters were brought fully up to date a few weeks ago. There have been a few significant changes to the line-up, though.

As he is now competing in Ice Dance rather than in Singles Skating, Nikita Vitryanyuk has been moved out of this thread. Don't worry, he is not being expelled from the Team Cyprus thread because he is now back to representing Russia. The reason he is being moved is purely because, when it comes to Pairs or Ice Dance partnerships, it is easier to organise the Original Posts if the partnership has it's own thread.

Here are the links to Nikita's new threads:

OK, so I have some big news.

Firstly, Maria MILIUKOVA / Nikita VITRYANYUK are now representing Cyprus rather than Russia in Advanced Novice Ice Dance.

Good move, guys! :agree:

Secondly, there is also a second partnership representing Cyprus in Advanced Novice Ice Dance:

Angelina KUDRIAVTSEVA / Ilia KARANKEVICH

But here is the really big news... the results from the two partnerships! :jaw:

Maria and Nikita won the Gold Medal in Hungary, while Angelina and Ilia won the Silver Medal in Latvia!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

This is big. This is the first season that Cyprus has been represented in Ice Dance. And even at this early stage of the season, they have 2 partnerships who are finishing regularly in the top echelons of international competitions! And in big fields at that.

Not only that, but both partnerships have finished on the podium.

In both of these competitions, there has been at least one partnership representing Cyprus in the Top 5 of EVERY SEGMENT. And if you take out the Argentine Tango from Riga, then that statement could be improved to refer to the Top 3 of every segment!!!

Things are getting very exciting for figure skating in Cyprus.

OK, thought I should add a comment to the thread updating you on how Angelina and Ilia have been getting on since the Volvo Open.

In short, they have done 3 competitions, and have won every segment apart from one (the Free Dance at the Santa Claus Cup when they were second). And in that segment, the winners were only 0.1 above them! :drama:

And in the Toruń Cup at the weekend, their win came as part of a Team Cyprus 1-2. Angelina and Ilia were 7.72 points ahead of Maria and Nikita.

I don't know what age Angelina is, so I don't know when they become age eligible. But I am really looking forward to the time when they move up to Juniors.

Barely 2 ½ months after winning yet another Gold Medal on their debut at the Cypriot Championships, and the new season kicks off this week for Angelina and Ilia. :cheer:

After a very busy 2018–19 season, it looks like they are going to continue in the same vein this season. The difference is that they have now moved up to Junior level.

This weekend, they will be competing in the NRW Summer Trophy in Dortmund. The Junior Ice Dance SD starts at approximately 17:10 CEST on Saturday 10[SUP]th[/SUP] August, while the Junior Ice Dance FD starts at approximately 10:30 CEST on Sunday 11[SUP]th[/SUP] August.

Then, two weeks later, they will be in Courchevel making their Junior Grand Prix debut. The Ice Dance SD starts at 14:15 CEST on Friday 23[SUP]rd[/SUP] August, while the Ice Dance FD starts at 15:30 CEST on Saturday 24[SUP]th[/SUP] August.

Two weeks after that, Angelina and Ilia will be making their second Junior GP appearance at the Riga Cup. The Ice Dance SD starts at 13:00 CEST on Friday 6[SUP]th[/SUP] September, while the Ice Dance FD starts at 17:20 CEST on Saturday 7[SUP]th[/SUP] September.

Although I will be posting further updates, I would like to just take this opportunity to wish them all the best in all their upcoming competitions.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST, ANGELINA AND ILIA!!! :cheer:

Two important updates to report.

Firstly, today is Angelina’s 14[SUP]th[/SUP] birthday!!!

С Днем Рождения Анджелина!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope you are having an enjoyable day and that the next year is a good one for you, both on and off the ice.

Secondly, Angelina and Ilia were competing at the Ice Star in Minsk a few days ago.

In the Junior Short Dance, they finished just 0.18 points behind the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] placed partnership of Shichina / Khubulov! Their score was a massive 13.55 points higher than their previous absolute PB score for the Short Dance from the Riga Cup!!!

After finishing 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] in the Short, it may at first look disappointing that they only managed 10[SUP]th[/SUP] in the Free. BUT, their score was only 1.56 below their absolute PB for the Free Dance from the Riga Cup. And when you take into consideration that they had a fall in Minsk, it is actually a sign that things are heading in the right direction.

When you put this all together, Angelina and Ilia finished in 8[SUP]th[/SUP] position with a score that was a massive 11.99 points higher than their previous absolute PB score from the Riga Cup.

Now that is what I call a great way to go into Angelina’s birthday! :agree:

Apologies that it has been a while since I posted here.

Angelina and Ilia will kick off their Junior World Championships campaign today, and in the process will have the honour of becoming the first skaters to represent Cyprus in an ISU Major Championship.

Angelina also has the honour of being the youngest skater in the Ice Dance category at this year's Junior Worlds. Ilia is the second-youngest male skater in the Ice Dance category (Thank you to Lyssa for those statistics!)

They will be the middle partnership to skate in Group 3. So, third to skate after the interval, and twelfth to skate overall.

The Short Dance competition starts at 13:15 EET (11:15 GMT / 14:15 MSK / 16:15 YEKT), so 15 minutes from now.

The Group 3 Warm-Up starts at 14:39:30 EET (12:39:30 GMT / 15:39:30 MSK / 17:39:30 YEKT), so approx 1h 39m from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 14:58 EET (12:58 GMT / 15:58 MSK / 17:58 YEKT), so 1h 58m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

They are so likable! Even if they weren't representing a country that is close to my heart, I would be so pleased that they made it through.

They have done their adopted country and their club so proud.

And the draw for the Free has actually worked out well for me, because they will be skating before I go out on Saturday morning. I had been worried that I would miss them.

I really hope that NoNameFace can overcome the difficulties of the arena layout and get the flower crown to them. Angelina will look so cute in it:

So, the day of the Free Dance has arrived. And our young dancers continue to go where no skaters representing Cyprus have gone before. (Well, Yuri Gagarin worked in the town where Angelina was born when he was a teenager, so it seems appropriate to use a space-related quote!)

They will be the penultimate partnership to skate in Group 1. So, fourth to skate today.

The Free Dance competition starts at 11:45 EET (09:45 GMT / 12:45 MSK / 14:45 YEKT), so 30 minutes from now.

Angelina and Ilia are due to start at 12:12 EET (10:12 GMT / 13:12 MSK / 15:12 YEKT), so 57m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws.

When you see the results on paper, you may be disappointed to see that our kids were 20[SUP]th[/SUP] out of 20 in the Free Dance, and so slipped down to be 20[SUP]th[/SUP] overall. HOWEVER, this does not tell the story of their Free Dance at all. Instead, you should watch the video:

To say that they impressed is an understatement. Just listen to what Ted Barton had to say about them after they finished their Free Dance. He was full of praise for them. And it was the same over in the competition thread on here.

Angelina and Ilia are very young, but they are full of promise. And they will no doubt get even better as they grow older.

Something you might find interesting. When looking at Angelina's Instagram posts, I noticed a very interesting hashtag - #zhulinteam . Seeing this confused me, because I have never seen Alexander with them. So, I decided to look into their coaching setup. And I discovered something very interesting:

They are coached by Julia Zlobina / Alexei Sitnikov, who I remember liking when they were representing Azerbaijan just a few years ago.

And a quick look at their ISU Bio showed that they used to be coached by Zhulin. (Although, in their final season competing, they were actually being coached by Shpilband).

Here are the programmes with which Zlobina / Sitnikov achieved their best ISU scores under Zhulin (the SD is still their ISU PB; the FD was surpassed the following season under Shpilband):

2013 European Championships Short Dance
2012 Trophée de France Free Dance

That Angelina and Ilia are being coached by students of Alexander Zhulin just explains everything about why they were so impressive. And bodes really well for the future.

Really looking forward to seeing what they come up with next season!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

If you look at her last post I think they are partially coached by Zhulin himself. Angelina thanks him personally for the season. I think it bodes well for them in the future

Angelina and Ilia finshed 1st out of 7 (or possibly 8) in the SP, with a score of 67.11.

Ice Star Junior Short Dance: Results; Protocols

There is no video uploaded yet.

This is their new absolute PB for the SD. It eclipses their previous best (from the 2019 Open d'Andorra) by 4.77 points.

Angelina and Ilia are 7.35 points ahead of Elizaveta SHICHINA / Gordey KHUBULOV (RUS).

The thing that imemdiately struck me is how tall they have both got since I last saw them. And I think it has actually helped them. They were just great!

:cheer: WELL DONE!!! :cheer:

The Free Dance kicks off tomorrow at 15:38:00 MSK (12:38:00 GMT / 14:38:00 EET / 17:38:00 YEKT). So, 15 hours from now.

Angelina and Ilia will be the last partnership to start. So, fourth to go in Group 2.

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 16:31:00 MSK (13:31:00 GMT / 15:31:00 EET / 18:31:00 YEKT). So, 15h 53m from now.

They are due to start at 16:57:30 MSK (13:57:30 GMT / 15:57:30 EET / 18:57:30 YEKT). So, 16h 19m 30s from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before them withdraws. Or, more likely, later. This is what happened today, because there was an extra partnership that did their SD before the 7 partnerships that were scheduled to take part.

I really enjoy them as a team, their FD was very original last year.
It seems they changed it this year (FD - 2020 Moscow Open Championship), but its lovely as well.

Good luck for the FD today!

Oops!: I thought this was their first competition of the season. :slink:

They didn't need any luck. They won!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Angelina and Ilia finshed 1st out of 7 (or possibly 8) in the FD, with a score of 98.10.

Again, this is their new absolute PB for the FD. It eclipses their previous best (from the 2019 Open d'Andorra) by 8.39 points.

Unsurprisingly, they also achieved a new absolute PB for thet total score. It eclipses their previous best (from the 2019 Open d'Andorra) by 13.16 points.

I thought their new FD was just beautiful. In fact, this is what I wrote in the event thread:

Beautiful. Just beautiful.

The music was beautiful. The costumes were beautiful. The skating was beautiful.

And, I love that Angelina is dressed up as a Greek goddess. Nice touch.

I was getting all choked up watching that. So proud of them.

If they don't win, I don't know.

Well, they did. And they deserved it!

Can't wait to see them again!

:cheer: WELL DONE GUYS!!! :cheer:
