Blade mounting

Hello,

I am buying new blades but keeping my current skates, I have to send them away to get mounted as our usual person is away for a while.

I am buying the same brand just different models (JW) and I am a powerful skater so skating on a temporary mount would be bad even for a day. (I’m going from Coronation Ace Lite to Pattern 99)

They’ll put the new blade where it was placed before, so will a permanent mount change anything if it’s a different model like the balance of the blade?

I hope this makes sense.

(I have all my singles and a few doubles btw)

The primary effect of blade mounting is inside/outside positioning and heel/toe angular alignment to compensate for pronation/supination. Changing model of blades should have minor impact on that (assuming no substantial defects in the blades). A secondary effect is front/back positioning affecting placement of pick and sweet spot. Changing model of blades could have more impact on that (but no way to tell in advance).

Under your scenario (you're in a rush, but need to place priority on safety), have the permanent mount done. I've never liked the term "permanent mount", but that's the accepted term. But bear in mind that a permanent mount isn't permanent. You can change it later if needed. Depending on when your usual tech returns, you can wait for them to change it, if needed.
