I've been fond of Corey's artistry since the summer of 2017 (his balletic skating style reminds me of a young Emanuel Sandhu), and I finally became his fan starting from the 2021 Skate Canada Challenge, so I'm happy that he now has a Fan Fest! 😀

Those who follow the Canadian men are aware that I sometimes provide videos of their performances, but it's my bad luck that Corey's musical choices are often banned from Dailymotion, so that means I frequently have to upload his on Streamable. However, the big downside of Streamable is that the vids are usually deleted after a certain amount of time, so most of the links are dead now. When I have more free time, I will check which of my vids are still online, and I will post them in this thread.

Nationals was just last week, though, so of course these links are still active. Congratulations to Corey for finishing in the Top 5 at his senior-level debut with two stunning programs!

I was planning to download CBC TV's Road to the Olympic Games broadcasts of Nationals (they include Kurt Browning as the commentator) from the CBC.ca website, but I've been searching for a week, and I can't find the archived livestreams anywhere. :scratch2: I had to beg  an acquaintance to convert their PVRs into video files.

Corey's SP wasn't aired, just for your information, and miraculously, his LP wasn't rejected by Dailymotion this time around! :party2:

I think this is Corey's first time being interviewed on CBC television.

I just discovered Corey Circelli at this Canadian Nationals, and I am a huge fan. He is my kind of skater. I love his ballet moves and lovely flow over the ice. He reminds me of Toller Cranston with his wonderful extensions and connection to the music. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this fabulous young skater.

Corey is included in the warm-up section, and Kurt is blown away by the fact that Corey ultimately chose singles over ice dance because most who compete in both disciplines usually end up in ice dance (like Paul Poirier).

Corey Cirelli

(on the skate today) A bit frustrated with myself after the first mistake, I really didn’t need to (do that – he popped the Axel) It’s my first championship event and am a bit nervous. I’ve never done the Four Continents and I was told I’d go and I was excited. I grew up watching it. It’s a big thing.

(on the travel here) It was a disaster. We haven’t even been here for 16 hours. We got here last night around 7pm and then we were lucky enough to be given 30 minutes on the practice rink. Our first flight was cancelled because in Toronto we had a crazy snowstorm. Which also prevented us from skating so Monday we didn’t get to skate, Sunday we didn’t get to skate last week. We tried to travel again on Tuesday and our bags got lost because there was a 10 hour delay and the bags were here before us so we are kind of doing with the flow. We got stuck in the elevator last night we took all the emergency numbers we were on the 21st floor and the doors would not open but we are here in the end.

At 4CC, Corey earned Personal Best scores for the free skate and total! 👏 There were no individual YouTube vids of his performances the last time I checked.

Overall I was pretty pleased with it. It felt like there are a lot of quality things. It’s nice to do the first two bigger jumps, get them nailed on an international stage. I wish I could do better, but I was pretty pleased. It was super fun.

(on what was taken on the first ISU championship) OMG, so much! To skate in front of big audience. I used to skate more on junior events which is quieter. It was super fun. I really enjoy it. Apart from that, it’s such an intense level. Everyone was so focused. It really puts you in a position where you just want to better yourself. It is super exciting, and makes me hungry for more.

(on transforming from ice dance) I was kind of a rink rat at a young age, like I was always there. It was something that coaches were like “let’s just do as much as we can to fill up your day”. At one point, around 14 or 15, I was like “it wasn’t really for me”. It didn’t grab my attention or satisfy me personally whereas my singles (skating) did. I just wanted to go with that and I couldn’t be happier.

(on whether training in ice dance has helped in his singles) It’s such a dream. From ice dance, I think you definitely learn music, rhythm and timing. But at the same time, my most take away from that is probably the ability to skate to so many genres. I feel like I have a good base of what music I can do. I tried a lot of different things.

Does anyone know where Corey is competing this season?
From the Tresa interview in post #13:

As I mentioned earlier, I have been dealing with some serious injuries. I am on the upside now but I have had to be off healing for quite a while now as I had a fractured fibula and a torn ankle. This just means that my season will start later than usual, most likely in late September. Regarding events in Canada, we kind of find out where we are going relatively close to the competition so it’s all still up in the air.

There's a Skate Ontario sectional series competition October 12-15, I'm keeping an eye out for the entry list for that one. He should be competing in the sectional series since he doesn't have a bye to Nationals. Anything else, it's up in the air as he says :)
