She is the 1981 World champion, the 1981 European Champion and a three-time Swiss national champion (1979-1981). SHe retired at the age of 18 shortly after winning her world title. She started competing in numerous professional competitions and shows and is still an active skater. With 11 gold medals, she's one of the most decorated pro skaters in the history
Nowadays she's most famous for and remembered for the Biellmann spin. Although she did not invent it (it was already performed in 1965 by Tamara Moskvina), she popularized it among the figure skating community.
Denise was the first female skater to land the triple lutz in a competition (she did it at the 1978 European Championships at the age of 15. Additionally, at the same event she became the first woman to receive a 6.0 in Technical Merit.
In 2014 she was elected, as the first Swiss woman, into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame. She was also chosen the Swiss Sports Person of the Century.
She dedicates to coaching, training for ice shows and dance training (as a curiosity, together with her partner Sven Ninnegmann in 2007 she participated in the Eurovision Dance Contest). She is also the Ambassador for the Laureus Foundation and for World Vision.
