Edea Chorus for Someone Working on Loops and Flips?

Hi all!

I'm a 132lbs (60kgs) female working on the loop jump and the flip jump. I've landed toeloop, waltz, and salchow, and have been skating in my overtures for about a year and a half. I'm looking to get a pair of new skates as my overtures are pretty worn down.

I'm considering upgrading to the Edea Chorus boots, but I'm scared that it will be too harsh on my ankles as it's rated for doubles.

For blades, I'm stuck between the coronation ace lite, the coronation ace, and the paramount coronation ace profile blades. Any suggestions?

Much appreciated!

As you are an adult and not a child, I think Chorus likely would be fine.

Definitely go with the Coronation Ace.

Hi and welcome! Even with being an adult and your stats, I feel like Chorus might still be a little stiff for you, but with your current skill level you could go with it. Traditional Coronation Ace to pair with it.

Good luck! :)

Chorus will be fine. What's harsh for your ankles, is a boot too soft.

If you have the opportunity, grab the Paramount in stainless steel.

Chorus should be fine. It's better to be sightly overbooted than under!

Blade-wise, go for the traditional Coronation Ace. I'm seeing too many people struggling with the Lites, plus they make learning catch-hold moves more difficult. Traditional Coronation Aces are the best-selling blades in the world and have been for a long, long time. The reason for this is that they can't really be beaten. Copies with the "same profile" are not the same. Go for the real thing.

Thank you all for the answers! I will likely get the Chorus boots.

For the blade, most people are saying that I should stick with the traditional coronation ace blades, but I've heard from a friend that MK professional blades are a better choice than the aces. Any thoughts? Much appreciated!

You can't really go wrong with either, it's personal preference but they are pretty similar. We are saying traditional so you don't get lites or revs which are not necessary at this point and would hinder more than help you.

Good luck!

The choice between CA/MK Pro is totally one of preference. MK Pro blade is slightly longer, with a higher heel stanchion, slightly bigger toe picks in a different angle, and a marginally different blade profile in the spin rocker. You can also get any variant in Paramount, but it ultimately depends on you which you would prefer in the long run. All the options are ok. If the idea of having a more raised heel in the MK Pro combined with the high heel of the Edea doesn't scare you, go for the MK Pro. If you want a lighter and more durable blade that needs fewer sharpenings, go with Paramount (definitely don't go with CA Lite if you just wanted a lighter blade. As to why, see next paragraph).

Blade-wise, go for the traditional Coronation Ace. I'm seeing too many people struggling with the Lites, plus they make learning catch-hold moves more difficult. Traditional CA blade profile don't even match the "CA Lite" in blade profile, so they're pretty much just different blades altogether. As to copies with the "same profile", Ultima is pretty notorious for marketing their blades as "comparable" to something they're not (although same can be said about JW and their "CA Lite"). Paramount makes much more exact "copies", albeit with some differences (some of which, ironically, stem from poor QA of who they are copying). But different doesn't necessarily mean better or worse. You do get more bang for your buck with the Paramount in build quality and materials, however.

Just to add, as someone who is in the Edea+MK pro combo, the transition to the higher heel of Edea + MK pro raised heel may seem daunting but not difficult to get used to. I went from recreational skates to Edea Wave (for general skate learning, not figure skating) and the first 1-2 sessions I tripped few times but nothing serious. So when I moved to my current boot+blade combo (Chorus + MK pro), the transition is almost seamless. if you're already in an Edea, then you would barely feel the difference (at least in my personal experience).

I am telling you this so that you won't have one less option to try in case the traditional JW CA is not available (supply issues etc.)
