It might be too simplistic for most of us, as we are to a certain extent knowledgeble about the differences between Pairs and ID, but the ISU has published a feature with a video on this:

Actually, this will be helpful for some of my friends who don't really follow fs, except during the Olympics. They ask me what the difference is between pair skating & ice all the time (including just a few days ago)!

This video reminds me of why I love aesthetic pair teams and athletic dance teams.
Actually for me, it's the opposite. I see more athleticism in pairs and more aesthetics in dance, which is why I feel pairs is so much more romantic and better choreographed to the music than dance, while dance seems more technical with emphasis on the aesthetics, at least to me. But of course you know I'm a biased pairs lover.:cheer:

If I'd been paid a dollar for every time I've said, and still say, I used to compete as a pairs skater and the non-skater says "Oh, like Torvill and Dean! I loved to watch them!", I'd have the money now to rent private ice every day. The only period when people knew what I meant was just after "The Cutting Edge" came out. Then the non-skater would smile and singsong: "Toe pick!"
