I hope that Choinard/Mayr get their minimums. So hard for a new team who has not been able to compete. I think they have potential to be a great team.

I hope so too! Since they disappeared from the entry list at Challenge Cup, I assume they submitted a video to ISU for scoring. The submission deadline ended yesterday and ISU will provide results no later than March 1st. Keeping my fingers crossed for Chloe and Livio! It will be tough for them anyway, just imagine their first official competition together and it will be Worlds. :jaw:

I guess this could even be unprecedented in figure skating history.

Olga and Maurizio competed this weekend at the 2021 TallinK Hotels Cup in Tallinn. While Maurizio had two rather rough programs with problems with the 3A (he came 4th overall), Olga's star continues to rise. She won the silver medal with two lovely skates (coming second in the SP and FS) and an overall score of 180.42. :clap:

I was early on the bandwagon.... the first one to mention her name on the forum in 2016. Though I remember watching her skate in local competitions in 2015 or so.

Here's a girl Eteri might want to look at. She's skating in Advanced Novice for Austria but she just moved there from Kharkov Ukraine about 1-2 years ago. This is something I was going to write last year when I found out she moved but she didn't perform all that well(and didn't do well in her first international event this year) and there was no new video. So far this year she's scored a 111, 89, and a 109 which isn't bad for someone not from one of the major skating nations. I do remember seeing a picture of her with Viktor Kudriavtsev.

Here's a funny anecdote from an article from 2015...

“When my daughter was very little, Olympic champion Oksana Baiul was present at her first stage in Odessa . After the awards ceremony, the organizers of the tournament said:“ Olya, look, Olympic champion, go take a picture with her. ”And Olya turned away seriously and answered:“ If she needs to let her take pictures with me, "- smiles dad.

I have to say that while I was on her bandwagon early that I got off of it because while she was fun to watch I didn't have much faith that she'd ever execute. She has been posting some pretty impressive clips on instagram lately but it's not easy to see how indicative that is.

Since the previous video was taken down, here is a re-post of Olga's outstanding debut performance at the 2021 World Championships in Stockholm. With her 8th place, she equalized the hitherto best result of an Austrian lady at a world championship in the "modern" figure skating era (Julia Lautowa also came 8th in 1997).

The commentator describes her FS: jumps, spins, choreography and music. Her presentation was spot on, sure, effortless. She gained spot for Austria. He says by the end, that, if she stays healthy, it's her Olympic spot.

She says: She's very happy with her performance, never expected to reach top 10 and to get this many points. But well, it happened. Anyhow, I'm really happy.

All this implies, she's got citizenship. Otherwise they'd mentioned it (as they did last year at Euros)

I was so happy after her FS, mostly because I've enjoyed her skate and like the program, but also because of Euros, where she bombed. She took it as exerpience and learned from it.
