I was also happy with fake cheering

I got a kick out Bruno turning around and playing to the "audience" every once in a while.

I am looking forward to Johnny letting his hair down (literally and figuratively :) ) in future episodes as he get more comfortable with getting the steps precise, etc.

I can't believe it, but Tyra needs to be a little "bigger," but I'm sure she'll get there.

I know what you mean. But maybe she doesn't want to overshadow the actual dancers.

I always thought that that was Tom Bergeron's appeal. He never took himself too seriously -- or anyone else. :)

Tom was the consummate host, and I miss him a lot. I always liked Samantha Harris (the second woman host, wasn't she?), and Erin as well -- but no one was quite like Tom. I really find it hard to think the show needed a new host to refresh itself -- Tom as host would be the one thing I would NOT change, myself, but here we are.

Chiming in a bit late, but I just watched it yesterday - Tyra's not terrible, but she's not great. She's kind of... flat as a host, if that makes sense.

Johnny was great, not perfect ofc, but I think he was underscored a bit, as was AJ McLean.

Johnny's my guy, but ...

I think I am on my way to being a Justina Machado fan!

Now to critique the judges/host. Whatever Carrie-ann is on, can I get some?

Who dressed Tyra? Fire them quick!

On the other hand, Derek wear a mean sash.

Great to see Johnny Weir. I miss Tom B. as the host, it's not the same show. I can't stand Tyra Banks and some of the get ups she is wearing. Honestly, someone needs to tell her she looks overweight. What was the green outfit about on Monday night? I thought maybe she escaped from a game of Jumanji - LOL

Does anyone else think that Carrie Ann was way off in her remarks to Johnny about his dance last week?? Also she picked another dancer to stay on the show over Johnny because the other dancer showed promise. I am not happy with her remarks. Your thoughts.

I wish they would stop with these Disney Nights and Halloween Nights schtick. (Well, maybe they have to do Disney Night, LOL). What with the pantomiming and role playing, etc., they seem to have forgotten about dancing. I'm with Len Goodman -- I want to see a quickstep that is a quickstep. I wonder if all the hoke and blarney is part of what the producers meant when they decided to go for a "fresh look" this season.

I think that Bruno's advice to the competitors might be over their heads. When he says, ifn the tango you should do your arms like this, not like that, his remarks are somewhat interesting to the audience, I think, but I doubt if the amateur contestants are far enough along to take advantage of the advice.

Johnny has some advantages over everyone else. He knows how to take choreograpphy, how to fill space with movement, how to perform. But to me his performances are uneven so far. If I had a criticism it would still be, we want more Johnny Weir, less Random Generic Dancer. (That's what Kristi Yamaguchi had in her season -- Kristi, Kristi, Kristi, all day long. Meryl Davis, on te other hand, was simply a better dancer than anyone else, so nothing else mattered.)

I agree but with the last point, Charlie should have gone further in his season than he did, Charlie is a great dancer and should have never been eliminated before Candace Cameron-Bure.

My sister's theory was that they played Charlie down because they didn't want a showdown between him and Meryl. They really were much harder on him than other contestants. At least this season, the judges seem not to be too biased for or against anyone. But I miss Tom Bergeron! Tyra is not a great host and her "costumes" are often just ugly and distracting.

So Johnny is still in contention? I haven't followed this season at all.

He has been uneven, but, e.g., with the salsa, I'm watching and thinking -- where's the salsa content? And wonder if by chance his partner is so new that she's not always making sure to have the basics of the particular dance, plus the fundamentals important to all the dances, included in the performances. (I think once a pro is established, they often get more leeway from the judges in that regard, but still, make sure a salsa looks like a salsa, your male partner knows the basics of extension, posture, dancing on the balls of the feet, the basic hip movement for the latin dances, etc.)

I think Britt is doing an amazing job of creating a strong take on each dance, but I'm not sure the dance always looks like it's supposed to. Or maybe Johnny really is that uneven in his strengths -- I wouldn't have thought so, but he has been uneven. I do enjoy that the season doesn't appear to have a strong favorite yet. Keeps it interesting.

My understanding is that Britt is more of a modern or jazz dance specialist with not so much emphasis on traditional ballroom. Thiat may account for part of the problem.

The other thing is that Johnny just doesn't have Latin hips. He even mentioned in one of the interviews that in skating you are taught to keep your hips straight and rigid.

I think that Charlie's pairing with Sharna was not ideal. It seemed sort of like a little brother - big sister act.

Meryl & Max mania, on the other hand, captured the imagination of all the entertainment media.

I :love2: "Disney Nights" & Disney music, but that's just me! So much music to choose from the repertoire. Not crazy about the Halloween theme, though.
