Hi all. I’m new here. To preface this I would like to say I HAVE spoken to coaches and pro shop fitters to please don’t advise me to do that. I’m here for a reason looking for others’ advice.

I’m 25 y/0 F 178 lbs. I have been figure skating for 7 months. I have my waltz, toe, sal, working on loop now, scratch spins , working on backspin. I have been fitted for and skating in a boot a size too large for these 7 months.

Now that I am learning loop, I started getting a horrible shin pain. ( shin splints ?) when landing on impact ( rt leg only ). Is this normal ? IDK how to add a pic of my boots , but they are not broken down. Slight creasing from tying tight. Very minimal. They are EVOS. Still pretty hard and have support left.

My pain is along the side of the leg above the ankle and the front of the leg, knee down.

2nd part of question- I am getting Jackson Debuts and need help with a blade and don’t know what brand or rocker size to go with and would really appreciate advice. I’m trying to do everything right this time around ! Thank you all in advance !!

Hi and welcome! You are not going to want to hear this, but you should have never been put in evos and that's the start of your whole issue and I'm not even talking about the fact that they are too big. They are more than nowhere near stiff enough for your needs (height and weight) which is causing many many issues and now you are injured from them. The Jackson Debuts you are getting aren't even going to be stiff enough. I know you don't want to hear about talking to a pro etc but don't go to a pro shop for these things. Many only know hockey skates and depending on your coach, they may not even know what they are talking about. If your foot is even the proper shape for a Jackson boot, the lowest stiffness I would have you in is a Premiere Fusion. You should never have been jumping in your current boots and the Debuts aren't going to be much better.

For the injury, go see a doctor, preferably an Orthopedist.
As far as blades, you don't need anything but a traditional intermediate blade: MK Pro or John Wilson Coronation Ace. Standard, no lites or revs.

Good luck!

Wow thank you so much for all the insight. I had a gut feeling I shouldn’t have started in evos either but that’s what the 16 y/o girl fitted me for at the shop. That’s why every time I have asked on a forum about these things I get frustrated with everyone telling me “go to the pro shop” I have been to soooo many and like you said they are mainly about hockey! I’m also in FL and we just don’t have those kind of good techs here. They really don’t know their stuff and they are young . My coach who has been doing this for a long time and has very qualifying credentials said the debut should be good for me considering I’m no where near axel and I’m doing this on the side as a hobby for myself no comp or anything of that sort. I truly appreciate your feedback however and will definitely consider the premier boot ! Thanks again :)

You're welcome. But I still question what your "qualifying credentials coach" really knows about stiffness ratings and weight. Those boots are not stiff enough. Where are you in FL? I can suggest a proper fitter.

I messaged you privately with some of the info. I’m in West Palm Beach! Thank you
