I totally support this decision, but now I fear Eteri's daughter will be on the podium now.
In no righteous world should they be.

Sinitsina/Katsalapov, Stepanova/Bukin and Guignard/Fabbri will definitely beat them. And if the judges haven't been completely brainwashed, a clean Fear/Gibson, Smart/Diaz, and Hurtado/Khaliavin should also beat Davis/Smolkin. Yeah Russian Nationals and Warsaw Cup inflated their scores beyond belief, but they should be scoring sub 190 total if they were being scored properly.

But yes - smart of the French team to avoid Europeans after the bs where they lost to S/K at the previous Euros. They don't need any of those shenanigans going into the Olympics, especially in Euros where Russia runs the show pretty much. Based on Davis/Smolkin being gifted 2nd at Nats, you can bet their PCS will magically rise from the 31.62/48.50 that it was at Skate Canada (at Warsaw cup it was a ludicrous 34.00/51.36), so they might spoil a team or two's deserved placement.

But unless there are other WDs no freaking way they medal.

Interesting how perspectives differ. My first thought was, with P/C out and Nikita’s back acting up—what a gold-plated, million-dollar opportunity for Guignard & Fabbri.

Imagine Barbara F-P’s reaction if they won.

Let's be honest, G/F are arguably the best European team other than P/C, but unfortunately they don't have the fed backing that the Russians do. And Stepanova/Bukin should be the ones to give them the battle for gold. Unfortunately, S/K are still propped up even though their programs, costumes, (and frankly, their skating in certain parts of their programs) is kinda trash this season.

It's a win-win situation though --- if G/F win we get the BFP winning reaction; if G/F lose we get the BFP death glare. ;)

Smart. They are so far ahead the faves and the second team SK are injured. They need to be safe in so many ways and pick up their gold. Show up is all they need for oly gold

Does Eteri really have a daughter who competes in Ice Dance? Who's her partner.

This is a problem.

Papadakis/Cizeron didn't compete at Worlds. There wasn't a GPF this season. They aren't competing at Europeans. They aren't competing in the Team Event at the Olympics.

Sinitsina/Katsalapov beat them at 2020 Europeans and won 2021 Worlds. If they win Europeans and the Team event, they are going to have SO much momentum at the Olympics.

Yes...but the risks maybe worth it?

Russia is 100% going to create the narrative that Papadakis/Cizeron are scared of losing to Sinitsina/Katsalapov, as they have constantly stopped competing against them since that 2020 loss. S/K will likely go into the Olympics with a 2 year long undefeated streak. Historically in Ice Dance, nobody has ever lost the Olympics after a 2 year undefeated streak. The judges are easily swayed by these things.

I think the judges are also swayed by the fact the French are clearly the best ice dance team out there.

I also think that all the pressure that would be normally spread across all these competitions is going to be all on Oly's now...
