Japanese figure skater Nobunari Oda (織田 信成 Oda Nobunari) was born March 25, 1987, in Takatsuki, Osaka, Japan.

Nobunari Oda says his name here:

In cased you missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkfzOPCFS88

This was absolutely amazing and I'm glad he's going all in! He has such great knees and really awesome jumps. It's a shame he's better known for his math problems than his skating at times.

Japanese Nationals will be a blood bath, but I think Nobunari can hold his own if he keeps skating like this! I hope he can get a World medal before he retires!

ETA: This video is six minutes of heavenly triple axel goodness featuring praises from Paul Wylie, Dick Button and our favorite Eurosport commentators: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAVr9Scs0cE I hope Jason Brown got some tips while practicing with him! :)

I think he did fantastic and it was great to see how happy he looked during his skating and afterwards. It just is bad, bad time to be a male japanese figure skater right now. Especially for the older ones. This is the last chance. When I think of Kozuka and when I think of Daisuke I really get nervous, especially after seeing what happened tonight at the Nebelhorn. Only the best survive. And the loosers are world class top skaters. Oh, the horror. At least, even if he doesn't get to go, Oda was at Olympics before.

That is true, but Oda's Olympic experience probably wasn't the best with that weird shoelace incident. I think he'd like to return and redeem himself.

After a performance like this, this man needs a fan thread!:yes:

Indeed! Nobu was such a joy to watch last night. I am so happy for him after having unfulfilled 2 seasons with unfortunate injury. Wish him a healthy/injury-free and great season throughout! :yay:

And my feeling exactly, yude. I am scared to death already just thinking about upcoming J Nats. ><
But don't cry, will you? We are such one lucky fan in the world to have so many talented skaters from our country, so let's rather appreciate it for the time being, shall we? ;)

Such one happy and adorable family together they are, aren't they! :) But to me, it looks the big Mama and three boys, rather than Papa Nobu, Mama and two boys! ;)

Nobu definitely looks young!

Jason Brown posted this photo of Team USA w/ Nobu:

You'd never know that Nobu was seven years older than Jason. (Not saying that Jason looks old though....:slink:)

Referenced this in J. Brown's thread: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2013/12/29/66234032/jason-the-dream-browns-life-as-a-senior-begins

Jason says some really nice words about Nobunari:

It was truly an event I will never forget, which included competing alongside one of my favorite skaters, Nobunari Oda. Now hearing about his retirement from competitive skating makes me appreciate even more the opportunity to be at an event with him. Nobunari could not have been more friendly, gracious, supportive and joyful. His warm, humble attitude, after everything he's accomplished, makes me respect him as a person and athlete even more. When the men's event was over, he even helped me cheer on the U.S. dance team (Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue) dressing up in the red, white and blue paraphernalia I brought and shouting with us!

Also rosewood over on FSU posted a few tweets, including one where he states that he has officially started as an assistant coach with his mom: http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/sho...ation-Thread&p=4091354&viewfull=1#post4091354

Here is a very nice interview on Apr 3rd, where Nobu talks about himself, his days after retirement, his future as a pro skater and coach, Mao and Dai, the Worlds in Japan, his recent performances at Kobe Charity ice show and its fund-raising: http://www.boom-sports.com/archives/52272776.html http://www.boom-sports.com/archives/52272775.html
At this cahrity show, he performed Cotton Club and William Tell, and it's been reported that he landed a perfect quad and 3A!

Hoping Nobu's sweet smile here http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/boomsports/imgs/9/8/98b2b03f.jpg will save Doris from crying. :)

Here's a bit of Nobu on TV, I think this will be his regular spot from now on commentating on figure skating and other sports.
He talks about World Championships but begins with his graduation from his University. (cue Crying Oda)
He says he remembers that he had actually gone to university to study English because he thought he would be an English teacher. His English teacher said, "Are you stupid?? You have an amazing figure skating gift. Surely you will use your English for your Figure Skating. You can communicate with other skaters in English, and it will help if you want to be a coach"
He said it may have changed his life.

I've actually never heard Oda speak in English. Does anyone have a clip of this? It should be good, if he planned to be an English teacher.

Jeff Buttle tweeted yesterday that he is choreographing for a long time friend in Japan, and it's Nobu! He mentioned it in his blog and had such nice things to say about the friendship!

The only English I've heard him speak is during an ISU interview clip thingy after Nebelhorn 2012 (and he looks extra cute :p )
