Oksana Baiul Interview on Ukraine War, Russian Ban, Thomas Bach and IOC

In 1994, Oksana Baiul became the first Olympic Champion of independent Ukraine. Today, she is an outspoken advocate for Ukrainian athletes and has implored Thomas Bach and the IOC to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from the Olympic Games and international sporting events. In our conversation, we discuss her feelings about state-sponsored athletes, Viktor Petrenko's participation in Tatiana Navka's ice shows, the Kamila Valieva doping scandal, the U.S. citizenship status of Eteri Tutberidze and why she spoke out against Sasha Zhulin on Twitter. Note: Viktor Petrenko was in Kiev during the early months of the war in Ukraine, not Odessa.

It is lovely to see that Oksana's soul is as lovely as her beautiful skating. Her pride and sincerity while speaking of her hometown is touching. I love that teenage Oksana has grown up to speak with dignity and conscience for the people of of Ukraine.
