Crossover, and some other posters, have started creating full OPs for retired teams and skaters. To accommodate these great efforts, I have moved all the threads for all the retired skaters and split teams to a "Hall of Fame" section of the Fan Fest index list. I have not moved teams like Davis & White, who claim to still be reconsidering competing, and, of course, sometimes I just don't know who is and who isn't retired.

I hope you guys will take a look at the Index OP in this thread and tell me about any changes and corrections that are needed?

Thx for creating the Hall of Fame, Doris .

Re suggested changes:
Caroline Zhang and Jeremy Abbott have not retired.

- Caroline has high hopes of returning to competition in the 2016-17 season. In a number of recent interviews, Grant and she have talked about her plans to return. Her tweet on April 13 has attached video showing her on-ice and off-ice training:

- Jeremy's status is the same as Davis/White's. Jeremy has never made a retirement announcement ... and whenever he is asked about his future, he always leaves the door open to the possibility of returning to competition.

ETA, stupid question:

What is the significance of the asterisks around some skater names?

I'm sure you have given an explanation of the asterisks somewhere, but I missed it :hopelessness:.

Everyone from Biechler/Dodge to Sota Yamamoto to Bulanhagui to Machida ....

Great idea. :cheer:   :party2: :points:

Just had a thought. Do you think that the retired skaters / split partnerships section would work as a sub-forum?

Come to think of it, do you think it would work for the whole of the Fan Fest Forum to be organised into sub-fora?

If you want to see how it could be done, here is the equivalent of the Fan Fests Forum on the IceSkating & Ritmica Forum:

http://skating-ritmica.forumfree.it/?f=8912376

Although, it might be tricky for the likes of Ashley Cain or Dušková / Bidař, who compete in more than one category at the same time.

I always took the designations to mean the following:-

Bold: has a detailed OP which has been updated since last summer.
Normal font: has a detailed OP which has not been updated.
Normal font with asterix: does not have a detailed OP, and urgently needs one.

But, I might be wrong.

Exactly right! on the designation.

I thought about a Hall of Fame sub forum, but I think we need more fully updated HoF OPs before we should make that change....
what does anyone else think?

Thanks for answering my question :).

The pattern re the asterisks was not obvious to me, b/c I would say the urgent need thing is in the eye of the beholder , at least in some cases.
But I do not mean to sound subversive.
Appreciate that Doris  and others  are tireless in expanding the scope and depth of the fan threads.

;) I make no value judgments about which skaters are somehow more worthy than others. These threads are for fans; all fans are equally worthy IMO.

The threads with asterisks have almost nothing but birthdays and which countries the skaters represent in which discipline. Therefore, they are in most urgent need of update. I was not in the habit of putting asterisks on retired or semiretired skaters, exactly because the original project was to have a lot of info about all the skaters on the GP, or at Worlds. With this restructuring, most of the retired skaters will probably get asterisks as being urgent. I have to review them.

Sad to say, there are not enough hours in the day for me to create something as pretty as theIceSkating & Ritmica Forum. I try to make up for that a little by being as comprehensive as I possibly can.

Oh no. I wouldn't expect you to do something as complex as that. And, I have to be honest, I don't actually like the layout of that forum. Far too many graphics cluttering up the pages.

That is why I much prefer Golden Skate! No clutter - just fora, threads and posts.

No, I was just suggesting that since we have the skaters divided up into sections in the index post, then each of these sections could have it's own sub-forum.

The reason I thought of it was because, over the past year or so, the Fan Fest forum has become the place where the most activity takes place (even more than The Edge). And, because of this, if you do not sign in for a couple of days, you could easily have 2 or 3 pages of threads with new posts. And it takes you a while to find the ones you want to read.

So, I just thought that separating the skaters into their categories would make it easier to keep track of the threads.

But, that is just my opinion.

Regardless, you do a great job in keeping the Fan Fest forum up to date. And, as somebody else who has a lot of "children" to look after, I don't know how you manage to do everything you do on this forum!

:eek:: you are welcome!

I do wish we had a photo of each skater in each OP though.

At some point, we will probably have to go to subforums.

If you're looking for volunteers, I can do Sota Yamamoto's. His English wikipedia doesn't contain much information in it so it'll be easier for someone who understands Japanese to do it.

Great! Since the owner of the thread is an active poster, probably the easiest way to do this is for you to post Sota's update here, and I will copy it over to the OP and credit you.

matmuh, if it is OK, could you post the Takahashi and Suzuki updates here, too. It is easier to find them here than embedded in the middle of a thread, so that I can copy them over.

!!! :bow::bow::bow:

Since both have had pretty long competitive careers, doing it would be very very time+energy+patience consuming/demanding (NO DOUBT! :drama:), thus I've given up from the beginning someone, even though s/he is persevering earnest and good-hearted, would ever do it tbh...
However, please don't push yourself too hard, don't feel 'obliged' at all, matmuh, and please be kindly reminded that we are in the long off season. :)
