I am of two minds what to do with Plushy and Davis & White. I decided that a HOF without plushy is a ridiculous concept, whether he is retired or not

Awww, matmuh! You're too kind.

But, given that you have made significant improvements to my template, I think mikaboo was right in giving most of the credit to you. You deserve it! ;)

Don't worry, I have been guilty of not checking things plenty of times too! :agree:

Thank you! :eek::

By the way, I will be starting to install updates to my Fan Fests shortly.

And there may be one or two new features in them... ;)

I have checked that all the Ice dance threads that had good OPs are now up to date for season 2015-16.

However, the above ice dance threads exist, but their OPs have basically nothing in them.

Would anyone like to volunteer to adopt any of them?

The OP of Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao is updated. :)

By the way, I think the name order of Chinese skaters' fan fest should be unified to avoid any confusion.

One thing we can do is to type the surnames in ALL CAPS. E.g. YAN Han or Han YAN.

BTW, you have YU Xiaoyang as First Name + Surname. Also, it doesn't seem appropriate to call a name first name which is not first.

I did try the method when to create the fan fest of Shen/Zhao, but the caps were modified to small letters by a moderator. Therefore, that matter might need more time to discuss within the community.
As for the Yu Xiaoyang and her partner, I put their name in the wrong box as working with frame codes was sometimes very confusing.

That is a real pet hate of mine on this forum. The way that most people do not put the surname first when referring to Chinese and Korean skaters.

Yes, I know that the ISU puts the surnames second in the results, Bios, TV graphics, etc. But, put simply, it is wrong!!! The tradition in those countries (and in Hungary) is that the surname comes first.

Eurosport has always made a point of respecting these traditions. And that is probably why I am so pernickity about it as well, since I grew up watching Eurosport.

So, I feel that we should respect the traditions on here as well.

Regardless of which way you go, I do feel that we need continuity in the Fan Fest titles for the Chinese and Korean skaters.

One thing we can do is to type the surnames in ALL CAPS. E.g. YAN Han or Han YAN.

Perfect example. As well as being this skater's first name, "Han" is also a (VERY) common Chinese surname. And I always have to pause and think any time I come across this skater's name. So having a system where the surname is capitalised would make it obvious that it is "Yan" that is actually the surname in this case.

Also, it doesn't seem appropriate to call a name first name which is not first.

That's just one of the quirks of the English language.

And you may be interested to know that it could even be argued that the word "surname" suggests a specific position (i.e. the end).

If we want to be strictly correct, we should be talking in terms of "given names" and "family names", as they do not imply position. But, nobody EVER uses these terms in real life.

That is where the "What You See Is What You Get" button becomes invaluable.

It is located at the far left-hand side of the toolbar, and looks like [SUP]A[/SUP]/A

Put simply, I would not be able to make tables without it! The coding is far too confusing!

What you do is press that button before you want to put a table in. Then, you can either make out the table yourself, or paste a complete table in from somewhere else.

Personally, I prefer to make tables out in Word and then paste them in when they are complete.

And I should add a big thank you to Doris as, although she is an expert in coding, she has made a big effort in promoting the WYSIWYG button to those of us who are not.

Hope this helps

To be honest, I don't think I correctly understood how the frame coding works because I just copied and altered matmuh's frames for fan fests' OP. Every time I set to make a fan fest's OP for skaters, I've just reused the frame from what I did for the latest work.

Yes, that's why I used it as the example. What helps me with YAN Han's name is to remember his name, in proper Chinese order, sounds the same as "bitter cold". And that's why I respect the original traditional order, because the complete names often have special meanings, sometimes very cleverly.

Yuzuru Hanyu talks about Tatsuki Machida's Retirement (April 2015; original video deleted)

“Last season at Worlds he said ‘I will retire as an athlete and from now on I will become an artist’. We’ve always battled against each other and I thought of him as a comrade so I more or less had a hunch. It’s thanks to him that even my way of thinking about my performances has changed. The fact that Machida-senshu retired makes me feel very, very sad and lonely but at the same time I honestly want to say ‘you’ve worked hard’ and ‘thank you so much for everything you did up until now’. Those are the kind of feelings I have in my heart.”
