Hi Everyone,

I am a long time lurker and a very seldom poster, but I'm crawling out of the woodwork to ask your feedback.

I am a long-time coach and I've been asked to give a presentation to newer skating parents about USFS. Some of the skaters have just started private lessons at the rink, some are still in learn-to-skate but wondering what is next, and all are coming off an ISI learn-to-skate program and are pretty much brand new to the concept of USFS. I've prepared most of what I want to talk about, and some parents have submitted questions beforehand, but I want to make sure I'm covering all my bases.

If you were (or are!) a newer skating parent, adult skater, etc - what would you want to know before you jump into the sport headfirst?

Thanks so much!

Hello!
It's nice this initiative! And thank you for involving us. Surely and first of all, if I had a child who wants to learn figure skating and I were new to the sport, I would like to know what are the needing times for off ice exercise, practice on ice, hours at the rink, what are the exercise routine, as to prevent too much pressure for a young-age boy. Then, if this satisfies me and it's seems enjoyable to my child, I would like to better know the coaches so I would ask if it is possible to see the effective work attending the first lessons. I would also ask if the skating school has in mind some objective for the child, I mean if they want to train him/her for future competitions or if they just follow the child's enjoying attitude for recreational skating. I don't know then, maybe it will come others questions to my mind, but now I would ask these questions primarely.:)
