It looks like that doesn't it? So they get them used to being in the carrier so it doesn't seem so scary...I'm very puzzled that if Emma isn't going to Switzerland until 2021, why would a vet be saying RIGHT NOW that she won't be able to fly? 4 months is a long time from now. I don't know if we know exactly how old she is, but she's younger than Toro. They need to give her a little time. If they don't want to put her in the cargo area, I still think they could possibly give her a mild sedative and she could be in the cabin with Tree.
Here in the U.S. they have a special service for people who won't put their pets on commercial airlines, and they fly them on small planes. It probably costs a fortune, and I don't know if something like that exists for international service.
I hope it helps them both to get accustomed to a carrier. If it fits under the seat in front of your feet, the dog/cat can be on the plane but don't know about Swiss Air regs. There was a question put out for input from anyone who has traveled Swiss Air with a dog or sending a dog alone on a long haul flight. I would not put any pet in the cargo hold. The use of a sedative works to keep the dog calm unless it's a service dog. Don't know how long they can stay sedated, though.
I thought that Shoma's mother was going to Switzerland in October (?) with Toro and Miss Emma would go in January. If so, Emma would either have to travel alone or Tree would have to go. I don't have a link to that and it may have just been conversations that were criss-crossing speculating this past summer.
