Inspired by the Team Italy thread I think the skating of my country can have it's own.

The Czech Republic and former Czechoslovakia skating has pretty long and glorious history, though, to be honest, I'm not sure about the glorious future. From the past, we can recall names like Alena Vrzáňová, the Roman siblings, Hana Mašková, Karol Divín, Ondrej Nepela, Jozef Sabovčík (thanks @dorispulaski (y)) , Petr Barna, René Novotný, Radka Kovaříková or Tomáš Verner, who all won medals and gained recognition on the world field.

From the current active skaters, the most renowned name is no doubt Michal Březina, then we can name his sister Eliška, ice dancers siblings Filip Taschler and Natálie Taschlerová or pair skater Martin Bidař with his current partner Elizaveta Zhuk. Martin's former partner Anna Dušková deserves a honorable mention here as with her they became 2016 world junior champions, the last major title won by czech skaters.

Well I liked what I saw in this year's JGP, especially when compared to a couple of years ago.. there seems to be some young talent to look forward to..

Is Jozef Sabovčík not classed as being Slovakian nowadays? He's a Bratislava boy, just like Ondrej Nepela.

But, I just read that Joe had a Czech mother and a Slovak father. So, he is the true definition of a Czechoslovak! ;)

I remember seeing him skating a few years ago (I can't remember if it was during an end of year Gala at Oberstdorf, or perhaps during the Opening Ceremony or Gala at 2016 Euros in Bratislava). But he was still great! So, I don't blame you for claiming him!

Here is a whole YouTube channel of videos of Jumping Joe:

And it includes the programme that @dorispulaski was talking about, where he did the quad. But, the colour is a bit weird on that particular video. So, here is an alternative video of it:

Jozef Sabovčík - 1986 European Championships FS

All the best with the thread, @flanker! I've always had a soft spot for your country, so I hope your skaters continue to do well.

He himself said he's considering himself a "Czechoslovakian" and disagreed with the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. He also participates in training of Eliška Březinová, so I think he definitely belongs here :)

Just for little amusement. Tomáš Verner is now performing in the czech version of Star Dance. He posted a picture to compare "before/after". he asked people to find "at least two differences"

Georgii Reshtenko came 9th at Golden Spin of Zagreb! Considering his middling JGP results, not bad at all

He doesn't seem to have enough fans yet for me to find individual videos, so here is the FP timestamped in the livestream (no guarantees that it will stay up though...): https://youtu.be/1nENf4Hk6XQ?t=18305
ETA: Aaaand it's blocked 😑 I should learn how to rip videos off streams! Or he can just become wildly popular and save me the trouble...

Close to clean, with a 4T-2T, 3A and another 4T. A bit noodly, but decent expression. Maybe good potential to fill Brezina's shoes (or even challenge him at Nationals, since as much as I love Uncle Michal he is a cactus...).

There is a post of Czech Skating Union about it (also reminding 11th place of Březinová and 14th of Slavíčková):

151 points in the free is a good result for a czech man apart from Michal Březina. Seo really when Michal retires (which probably happens after the olympics/at the end of the season), we can possibly have a successor (with respect to Bělohradský he doesn't seem advanced so far).

Tomáš Verner's paso doble and walz from the last episode of Star Dance:

He's lucky his wife Tammy is very supportive and proud about his success and progress through the competition

The "Czech Kogan", Stanislav Žídek, the chairman of the Czech Skating Union, is evaluating the performances of the czech skaters at the Four Nationals as satisfying and wishes all the best to the athletes at Europeans and other further competitions.
