I have toyed around with the idea of creating threads for certain ice dance coaches/groups in the past, but with the news that Ilinykh/Zhiganshin plan to go to Igor Shpilband I decided the time had finally come for me to give him and his group a thread of their own. Fabian Bourzat currently also works with Igor and with his group. Please feel free to share any news about him, his students, or his group here :cheer:

Igor's had a somewhat interesting life and career. He is the 1983 World Junior champion in ice dancing with former partner Tatiana Gladkova. In 1990 while on a skating tour in the USA he decided to defect from the Soviet Union and became a USA citizen 10 years later in 2000. His coaching history with (and ultimate split from) Marina Zoueva in Canton is well known, and he currently coaches several top teams of his own in Novi.

I'll always have some fondness for him for choreographing one of my fave FDs ever, Punsalan/Swallow's Oblivion. Of course, he only did it after what felt like thousands of years of dreary Latin FDs for them that probably ultimately contributed to souring judges on them :disapp:, and he kinda winged it as an emergency after their previous FD that season was a flop, far as I understand it. But nevertheless, IMO it's a masterpiece. It's a beautiful, poetic program with a clear vision, fitting the couple like a glove, not trying too hard at anything at all. Like breathing. :)

Isn't Fusar-Poli G/F primary coach? & Igor just acts as a consultant in the off season.

I didn't know where to put this exactly but I hope someone will know the answer here:
What was the illegal movement in Mansourova/Češka SD at the Europeans? I didn't have time to watch live and I only watched it now. And I am wondering what was the problem. Was it the lift? He wasn't holding her and she had her leg around his neck. But I don't know if that is illegal. Or was it an extended lift? (Is it even -2 deduction for extended lift?). Anything else?

I believe the way they messed up the twizzles was counted as an invalid element.

Of the teams mentioned in the first post only 3 teams remain. Mansour/Ceska have broken up.
