ISU Personal Best Scores for Vasilisa Bogomolova

+5 / -5 Grade Of Execution System

The Personal Best and Season Best scores that the ISU uses for a skater only take into consideration certain competitions. For example, they do not take into consideration domestic competitions, such as Sectional, Regional or National Championships.

The table below takes into consideration all the events that the skater has taken part in. These scores are referred to as “Absolute Personal Best” and “Absolute Season’s Best” so as to distinguish them from the scores recorded by the ISU.

Absolute Personal Best Score
Absolute Season’s Best Score

The Absolute designations are based purely on the contents of the Competitive History table in this post. If anybody knows of any scores that are not in the table, please let us know, and we will be only too happy to add them in.

Denis Ten Memorial Challenge Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvz0V7AKlxI

Vasilisa finished 1st out of 12 in the SP, with a score of 57.35.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

This is fun. Keeping an eye out for two skaters, when you don't even know what one of them looks like! :drama:

Well, at least Varvara is easy to spot, since I've already seen her this season. White team jacket over a blue jumpsuit.

Aha! Vasilisa is wearing a black team jacket over a salmon coloured dress. I spotted the shape of the island on her back when she was getting up from a fall... :slink:

But she did a nice jump just before the end of the warm-up.

EDIT: During the break before the Junior Men's SP, I went back and watched the Group 1 Warm-Up again to check something that was bugging me. And I was right. They barely showed Varvara at all during the Warm-Up. Any time she was in shot, she was just in the background skating across the ice. We didn't see her do any elements. 😞

Vasilisa, meanwhile, was in the back ground of shots quite a few times, and we even got to see her doing some elements. HOWEVER, the shots weren't great! :drama: For example, there was a time when she did a jump just at the edge of the shot. And another time when the camera was zoomed in on a skater at the far side of the rink, and then Vasilisa's blurred head popped up into the screen when she was doing a jump closer to the camera.

We saw Vasilisa fall twice. The first time, she took off in the background of a shot of Anastassiya ENGELGARDT (KAZ), and then the director switched to a camera pointing directly at Vasilisa mid-jump, and we saw her falling and getting up. The second time was a similar scenario. The camera was again focussed on the same skater. Anastassiya did a jump and fell, and then Vasilisa in the background jumped and fell. Then the director changed to a different shot of Anastassiya moving away, and we saw Vasilisa getting up in the background.

Here is what I wrote when she was getting introduced:

Here we go. First time seeing my new kid. And going by her past scores, she should be good.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Oh, boys. She's tiny! :jaw:

She's wearing a dress that is black in the top half, and red in the bottom half.

"Bolero" with lyrics?! That's something different.

Lovely jump to start off with.

Combination jump looked effortless.

Combination spin good too.

Fall on next jump.

I see Varvara warming up in the background!

No further jumps, but everything she did in the second half looked good.

Have to be honest, I didn't like the vocals. But the skating more than made up for it.

Wow. She's a little jumping bean! Just like her team-mate in a couple of skaters time!

She certainly lived up to my expectations, having seen her scores in domestic competitions in Russia.

Should be the new leader.

She is. By a large margin.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what @auser wrote about her programme:

Bright costume from Vasilisa BOGOMOLOVA that matches her hair. I like the way she attacks the elements of her program with gusto. She is promising and I am looking forward to watching her grow.

And then added:

Lovely skate from Vasilisa BOGOMOLOVA.

@labgoat then replied to my post with:

She is a cutie - a little red chili bean.
I am on break at work and just checking in.

To which I replied:

I'll be honest, I didn't even know what Vasilisa looked like until I saw her in the Warm-Up. But, having seen Varvara regularly over the past couple of seasons and having seen that Vasilisa's scores have tended to be a good bit higher than Varvara's, I knew she was going to be good.

And boys but she was!

Glad you were able to join us for a bit.

CaroLiza_fan

Vasilisa is currently 2.75 points ahead of 2nd position, Valentina ANDRIANOVA (DEU), and 2.79 points ahead of 3rd position, Veronika KIM (KAZ).

Cypriot team-mate Varvara ABRAMKINA is in 4th position, is 6.73 points behind Vasilisa.

Although I am delighted that Vasilisa is leading after the Short Programme, she still needs to have a good Free Skate because the girls in second and third are both within striking distance.

What a day this could turn out to be for Cypriot skating. If everything goes the right way for Vasilisa and Varvara, we could end up with Cyprus winning two medals.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start at 14:30:00 AQTT (09:30:00 GMT / 10:30:00 BST / 12:30:00 EEST / 12:30:00 MSK). So 4 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 12th and final skater to start. So, sixth and final skater to go in Group 2.

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 15:18:30 AQTT (10:18:30 GMT / 11:18:30 BST / 13:18:30 EEST / 13:18:30 MSK). So 4h 48m from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 16:00:00 AQTT (11:00:00 GMT / 12:00:00 BST / 14:00:00 EEST / 14:00:00 MSK). So 5h 30m from now.

Denis Ten Memorial Challenge Junior Ladies FS: Results; Protocols
Denis Ten Memorial Challenge Junior Ladies: Results

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIfk6QH0vwE

Varvara finished 1st out of 11 in the FS, with a score of 111.12. This meant that she remained in 1st position overall, with a score of 168.47.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

How do you keep track of two daughters in the one group?! :drama:

Right, they've picked up Vasilisa. And then cut away as she was lining up a jump!

Now they're following Varvara, until she got hidden behind the box. (I told you she was tiny!)

Switched to Vasilisa. Very nice jump!

Just about saw Varvara do a nice jump way in the background of another skater's shot.

Another lovely jump from Vasilisa when the camera was focussed on her.

Ach, they were focussing on Varvara, and cut to another skater just as she was taking off!

But shortly afterwards we saw her landing a nice jump in the background of a shot.

Boys, this post was hard work! :drama: But, they both looked good, and that is the main thing!

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Very familiar music this is!

Effortless combination jump to start with!

And the same for the sequence of jumps that she did next.

Same for the next jump and the spins that followed!

Everything is coming effortlessly!

I know I'm sounding like a stuck record, but I can't think of anything else to say. Everything looks so easy and faultless for her.

Until the very last jump. When she fell.

Well, it shows she's human!

But she made up for it with the spins she finished with.

Vasilisa is going to win this by a country mile! No doubt about that.

She wins the FS by 16.08 points and overall by 18.87 points.

She's happy. And so she should be!

Awww, she waved the cuddly toys at us!

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Vasilisa finished the Free Skate 16.08 points ahead of 2nd position, Veronika KIM (KAZ), and 21.45 points ahead of 3rd position, Anna SANNIKOVA (KAZ).

Overall, Vasilisa finished 18.87 points ahead of 2nd position, Kim, and 33.34 points ahead of 3rd position, Sannikova.

What can I say? Vasilisa absolutely demolished the field. And it wasn't by chance - it was by design. Vasilisa's Free Skate programme had by far the highest Base Value of the field. The Base Value of her programme was 7.95 points more than that of the skater whose programme had the second highest Base Value, Kim. Unless Vasilisa has a nightmare skate, you just can't compete against that size of an advantage.

And you certainly can't compete with that programme when Vasilisa is in the form she is currently in. Even with the fall, she ended up with a TES that was higher than it's already massive Base Value.

And all this in her first ever international competition.

You know, this may be the first time I have actually seen Vasilisa in action, but I have already made up my mind that she needs to be the skater that represents Cyprus at Junior Worlds. Because, on current form, she is the only skater of the three that could earn Cyprus the extra slots that it needs so that all of them get multiple assignments to ISU events next season.

That is a lot to put onto the shoulders of the youngest of Cyprus' Junior girls. But, I have no doubt that she can do it.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Because she finished on the Junior podium, Vasilisa also got to perform in the Gala! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Here is what I wrote when she was getting introduced:

MY BABY!!!!

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

SHE'S SKATING TO SHAKIRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

And it is my favourite Shakira song too - "Objection"!!!

This little girl knows how to make me very happy!

Mmmm. It turned into a remix in the second half.

:cheer: WELL DONE CHAMP!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Because of the quick turnaround in the Gala, I didn't get a chance to go into any more details. But, I will now.

Vasilisa was going for the biker chick look!!!

When she was introduced, she was wearing a half-length red T-shirt with illusion mesh over her belly. Over the T-shirt was a half-length black leather waistcoat, with lots of studs, a lightning flash patch, a Rolling Stones logo, etc. She was also wearing black leather gloves. Her skirt was black at the front and leopardprint at the back, and had netting over the top.

However, before she started, Vasilisa went over to the boards, and her Mum handed her a black fedora hat, which she put on when she got into her starting position. The first 15 to 20 seconds consisted of a lot of hatography! She then left it on the ice, although she came very close to clipping the rim of the hat with her blade as she went past.

The first jump wasn't the best, but that was because she spotted something lying on the ice and she was trying to avoid it.

Later on, she rolled about on the ice, which brought back memories of when my favourite skater, Liza Tuktamysheva, rolled about on the ice during what is probably my favourite Gala programme of her's! (Suffice to say, I used a photograph of Liza lying on the ice as my avatar for a long time!)

She then did a sequence of three jumps and, after that, she did Liza's signature move!!! :cheer:

This was followed by a very impressive combination spin, and then she went and picked up the hat and got into her finishing position.

There was a funny moment after Vasilisa took her bows. Two cuddly toys were thrown down onto the ice. She spotted one, picked it up, and then started heading towards the gate. Then she realised that there was another, and when she turned around to go back and get it, her hat fell off! And for a moment she couldn't decide which to pick up first. Unfortuntately, this was when the lights went out, so we didn't see what happened next.

An hour and a quarter later it was time for the Finale.

Before the Finale proper, all the skaters that took part were introduced one-by-one. And when it was Vasilisa's turn, she came out (without the hat) and did Liza's signature move again!!!

I swear, it was as if she had a list of everything I like, and was using the Gala to tick them off one by one!!!

I only made one general comment about the Finale, but I did mention Vasilisa in it:

I'm still trying to work out if the schedueld part of the Finale was choreographed, or whether it was just skaters messing about doing their own thing!

Either way, it was fun!

Veronika Kim and Vasilisa Bogomolova were standing next to each other in the middle of the line-up for the bows, and they were tiny compared to everybody else around them! And it didn't help that the oldest skater in the Gala, Marie-Pierre Leray, was standing next to them. It was like the little children had gravitated towards a mother figure.

Yes!!! Lots of messing about afterwards!!! I love it when they do that!!!

Now lots of shots of what is left of the audience.

CaroLiza_fan

At the very end, after the lights had gone up and most of the skaters had left the ice, a group of the Men's skaters were standing chatting, and Vasilisa went up to them and started arranging them to have a group photo with her! Here is the result:

https://www.instagram.com/mitaxa/p/DAxate6CFUK/?img_index=13

All in all, I absolutely loved everything that Vasilisa did during the Gala!

To finish off, I would just like to say that I am so glad that Vasilisa's first international event was at an event that had a free stream and a Gala. Because both of those things are gettting few and far between nowadays.

Can't wait to see her again.

I would like to take this opportunity to share a video I saw of Vasilisa that made me smile:

https://www.instagram.com/bogomosh_a/reel/DA62YQgoK01/

This video was filmed outside a hotel in Limassol that I have gone past many times over the years. And I can safely say I have never seen anybody doing Axels outside it before!

And here is a video of her jumping on actual ice at the rink in MyMall:

https://www.instagram.com/bogomosh_a/reel/DA6WQxpuvEz/

For those not familiar with the geography of Limassol, the hotel is in the extreme east of the city. The shopping centre is in the extreme west of the city. Whether you go by the more direct coast road (12 miles) or the faster motorway (15 miles), you're doing well if you get from one to the other in half an hour!

So, I don't blame her for taking the opportunity to practice off ice! ;)

Hope it is not long until we see her in competition again.

VASILISA WON THE SHORT PROGRAMME!!!

IceChallenge Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzzpOgKxVII

Vasilisa finished 1st out of 17 in the SP, with a score of 55.23.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

The Group 2 skaters started their Warm-Up as soon as the last skater in Group 1 came off the ice. So , we missed most of it while she was getting her scores.

But, we did hear the introductions. And I am not happy. Everybody in the group was getting applauded and / or cheered. Except my girl. When Vasilisa's name was called, the place when silent.

Come on, audience! Why are you being mean to a 13 year old girl?!

Do Austrians have a reason that I don't know about to not like her coach, Inna Goncharenko?

Unfortunately, we didn't see anything, because there was a big graphic showing the current standings covering most of the screen. And anyway, it was that static camera at the back of the stands that we were on. So, the skaters were too small to see anyway.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was getting introduced:

Here is my little jumping bean!

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Oh, I forgot that there were vocals.

First jump effortless.

Combination jump effortless.

But she really messed up the next spin and fell. And was looking lost for a while afterwards. Has she hurt her hand?

When she did get going again, she was straight back into her stride.

Next jump beautiful.

And so was the rest of the programme.

What on Earth happened?! Everything was sublime apart from that one element.

Well, she is enthusiastically waving at us with both hands, so she must be happy enough.

Her Mum is sitting with her, and they did that heart arm thing.

She got 3 cuddly toys.

And, somehow, she has taken a massive lead.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Vasilisa is currently 6.88 points ahead of 2nd position, Nela ŠNEBERGEROVÁ (CZE), and 11.16 points ahead of 3rd position, Flora Marie SCHALLER (AUT).

With this size of a lead, Vasilisa should have enough of an advantage to be able to get it over the line without bother. But, we saw yesterday that, contrary to rumours, she is actually human and can make mistakes. So, she needs to go out there with the same attitude that she normally does, and not rest on her laurels.

So, here's to a good Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start at 12:30:00 CET (11:30:00 GMT / 13:30:00 EET / 14:30:00 MSK). So 5 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 17th and final skater to start. So, sixth and final skater to go in Group 3.

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 14:12:00 CET (13:12:00 GMT / 15:12:00 EET / 16:12:00 MSK). So 6h 42m from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 14:53:30 CET (13:53:30 GMT / 15:53:30 EET / 16:53:30 MSK). So 7h 23m from now.

Vasilisa finished 2nd out of 17 in the FS, with a score of 90.23. This meant that she remained in 1st position overall, with a score of 145.46.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

Resurfacing over. Final group on the ice.

We are on the static camera behind the stands with the running order covering most of the screen, so there is no point in me even attempting to try to spot Vasilisa and follow her around the ice.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

Time for the leader from the SP.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Awww. Vasilisa and her Mum do some special hand thing to send her off.

Fall on first jump! :jaw:

Sequence of jumps she did next was good, although the last jump was possibly under-rotated.

Nice choreographic sequence.

But then another fall on a jump.

The combination spin she did next made up for it. It was beautiful.

And so was the next jump.

Nice choreography. But completely popped the jump that followed.

The mistakes are starting to play on her mind. The first part of the next combination jump looked a bit ragged. Second part was lovely, though.

Combination spin beautiful, but almost verging on too fast.

Final jump and Layback spin at end beautiful. Although, finished a bit later than the music.

This was a real mixed bag. A lot of mistakes. But the good stuff was as sublime as I have got used to from Vasilisa.

Waves and hearts from both mother and daughter.

Vasilisa still manages to comfortably win overall. But she is 2nd in the FS (only 0.43 behind Nela ŠNEBERGEROVÁ, though).

They do a high 5 after the scores are announced!

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Vasilisa finished the Free Skate 0.43 points behind 1st position, Nela ŠNEBERGEROVÁ (CZE), and 8.29 points ahead of 3rd position, Ula ZADNIKAR (SVN).

Overall, Vasilisa finished 6.45 points ahead of 2nd position, Šnebergerová, and 13.49 points ahead of 3rd position, Flora Marie SCHALLER (AUT).

This is going to be interesting. Stefania and Vasilisa are skating back-to-back today at the Bosphorus Cup in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start today at 14:25:00 TRT (11:25:00 GMT / 13:25:00 EET). So 5 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 28th skater to start. So, sixth and final skater to go in Group 5 (and sixth skater to go after the second resurfacing).

The Group 5 Warm-Up is due to start at 17:25:40 TRT (14:25:40 GMT / 16:25:40 EET / 17:25:40 MSK). So 8 hours from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 18:00:30 TRT (15:00:30 GMT / 17:00:30 EET / 18:00:30 MSK). So 8h 35m from now.

Vasilisa finished 11th out of 49 in the SP, with a score of 44.16.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

This is going to be fun. Not only have I two kids to keep track of in this Warm-Up, but they are doing their programmes back-to-back!

Hang on, there's only 4 on the ice. I see Vasilisa, but I don't see Stefania.

One of the other skaters fell, and Vasilisa was heading straight towards her at speed. She did very well to avoid ploughing straight into her.

EDIT: It was Sofiya VIDRINA (UZB). Who, by the way, fell again shortly afterwards.

With about 2 minutes to go, we saw her go over to the boards, and Goncharenko gave her shoulders a massage, and whispered into her ear, And then she was off again.

I'm telling you, this girl is the Duracell bunny. The other skaters were going at a steady pace, and Vasilisa was zooming around the ice!

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

Well, with Stefania missing, we wait around for a moment, and then it is straight onto my other kid.

That was funny. Vasilisa was stretching, and Goncharenko had to urge her to move up towards the gate.

She's on the ice now.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

I keep forgetting that it is "Boléro" with vocals.

Beautiful jump to start with.

Will the second jump be classed as a fall or a double hands down?

Didn't hamper her, though. The spins were beautiful.

Well, the third jump is definitely a fall.

Oh, she's getting desperate. Next spin didn't go well.

And another dodgy spin.

Combination spin good.

Bielmann beautiful.

She looked very disappointed when she finished.

When they arrive in the results area, they pose for a photo. But there arr no smiles.

You can see Vasilisa is very angry with herself.

2 points in deductions, so the first mistake was classed as a fall.

She goes into 5th position.

Well, it could have been a lot worse but for the quality of her skating. So...

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Vasilisa is currently 0.51 points behind 10th position, Zoja KRAMAR (SVN), and 0.16 points ahead of 11th position, Sofiia RYMSHYNA (UKR).

I usually define groups by gaps of 2 points or more. But, if I were to do that in this case, all three of them would be part of a group of 40 skaters covered by 21.58 points, stretching from Michaela MÁLKOVÁ (CZE) in 9th position, 0.60 points ahead of Vasilisa, down to Buse SEZERER (TUR) in 48th position, 20.98 points behind Vasilisa.

In a group as massive as this, which covers three quarters of the field, absolutely anything could happen. Vasilisa could move a couple of positions up the order, or significantly down the order.

So let's hope she has a good Free Skate, and moves up!

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start today at 15:00:00 TRT (12:00:00 GMT / 14:00:00 EET / 16:00:00 MSK). So 6 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 39th skater to start. So, first skater to go in Group 8 (and first skater to go after the third resurfacing).

The Group 8 Warm-Up is due to start at 20:55:40 TRT (17:55:40 GMT / 19:55:40 EET / 21:55:40 MSK). So 11h 55m from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 21:09:20 TRT (18:09:20 GMT / 20:09:20 EET / 22:09:20 MSK). So 12h 9m from now.

Vasilisa finished 8th out of 49 in the FS, with a score of 87.19. This meant that she climbed to 9th position overall, with a score of 131.57.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Just about got back in time for the Warm-Up.

Vasilisa has got such a distinctive style that, even if she wasn't always the smallest skater in the group, you could still spot her easily. But, it was only in the last ciouple of minutes that we saw her do any jumps within camera shot.

The first two jumps were beautiful.

The third jump would have been beautiful too, except somebody got in her way as she was coming down. I don't know whether Vasilisa actually hit this other girl, or whether she got spooked when this other girl appeared, but Vasilisa fell anyway. There was only a bit of space between Vasilisa and the boards, so I don't know how this other girl figured that she could get through it.

And then in the last seconds of the Warm-Up, she did a jump and fell.

Hope there are no more falls come the programme.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

Well, she didn't have long between the Warm-Up and her programme, and she has work to do now, but here comes my final kid of the night.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Mmmmm. Popped the first jump.

Hand down and messy landing on the second.

Beautiful combination jump. And same with the combination spin immediately afterwards.

If that was a combination jump, she missed teh second part. If it was an individual jump, it was beautiful.

Was the next jump popped too?

The next combination jump was lovely, And so was the combination spin immediately afterwards.

Fall on her final jump. But the spin afterwards was beautiful.

I don't know what is going on this week. She normally makes everything look effortless. But so much went wrong in both programmes.

She was sitting on her own for a while before Goncharenko arrived.

She goes into 2nd position in both the FS and overall.

Well, the good things were beautiful, so I will say it anyway:

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

I actually had company watching Vasilisa's FS. So, here is what our bastion of positivity, @Jeanie19, had to say about her:

Vasilisa. Really pretty dress. Nice program and skate.

Vasilisa finished the Free Skate 4.93 points behind 7th position, Sofiia RYMSHYNA (UKR), and 0.71 points ahead of 9th position, Eugenia SEKULOVSKI (CHE). Vasilisa is at the head of a group of 5 skaters covered by 3.82 points, stretching down to Chiara HRISTOVA (BUL) in 12th position.

Overall, Vasilisa finished 3.37 points behind 8th position, Sekulovski, and 1.55 points ahead of 10th position, Michaela MÁLKOVÁ (CZE).

It's fair to say that this wasn't Vasilisa's event. She was out of sorts in both segments. Nevertheless, she still managed to get a Top 10 position.

Hopefully things will go better for her the next time we see her.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

Vasilisa finished 9th out of 35 in the SP, with a score of 46.83.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Unfortunately, the Group 2 skaters were called to do their Warm-Up as soon as the final skater of Group 1 came off the ice. So, we missed the first half of the Warm-Up while Elea RUSTGAARD (NOR) was getting her scores.

And then, because it is so long since I last saw Vasilisa, it took me a while to work out which skater was her. But, when I did, it was easy to keep track of her. She was the tiny girl zooming across the ice at a rate of knotts!

Most of the time we saw her, she was either crossing the shot right in front of the camera, or else lining up a jump, which she presumably did out of camera shot.

However, at the very end of the Warm-Up, she did 2 jumps in camera shot when she was coming off the ice. But, they weren't full-blown jumps.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

Whoa, that was quick. I wasn't prepared. (Well, I suppose we did have a withdrawal).

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Oh yeah. Boléro with vocals.

Beautiful Double Axel to start with.

I think the second element was supposed to be a combination, but she had an awful landing on the first part (the Double Lutz), and so couldn't attach anything.

Flying Camel Spin she did next was lovely, though.

Ach, fall on Triple Flip.

Not sure if the next spin was an element gone wrong or just choreography.

The Change Foot Combination Spin and the Layback Spin at the end were beautiful.

She looks disappointed waiting for her scores.

But, she goes into the lead.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Looking at the Protocols, missing the combination and falling on the Triple Flip were her only issues. But they were costly.

Vasilisa is currently 1.91 points behind 8th position, Evelina STAVICKYTĖ (LTU), and 2.21 points ahead of 10th position, Meea MÄNNIKKO (FIN).

Although there is a gap of more than 2 points ahead of Stavickytė, it is not much more than 2 points. So, if Vasilisa has a good Free Skate, she could climb up further. Potentially as high as 5th position, since Venla SINISALO (FIN) is only 6.14 points ahead of Vasilisa.

So, let's hope Vasilisa does have a good Free Skate!

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

Vasilisa finished 5th out of 34 in the FS, with a score of 99.13. This meant that she climbed to 7th position overall, with a score of 145.96.

Here is what I wrote about her in the competition thread during the Warm-Up:

Again, like yesterday, most of the times that we saw Vasilisa she was just crossing the camera shot.

Although, we did see her do a lovely jump early on in the Warm-Up. And in the last minute, we saw her do a whole pile of beautiful spins in camera shot.

There was one moment when Vasilisa was crossing the shot backwards that another skater nearly ran into her. I think the other skater had been with her coach at the boards, and was heading back out and just plain wasn't looking where she was going.

On a different note, about half-way through the Warm-Up, we saw one of the Finnish girls kicking her pick into the ice a few times right in front of the camera. You could actually hear it! And you could see the effect afterwards.

I didn't like that.

CaroLiza_fan

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

Time for my little flame-haired Duracell Bunny.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST VASILISA!!! :cheer:

And here is what I wrote about her programme:

Yipes. I accidentally closed my Golden Skate window when the skater on before Vasilisa was waiting for her scores. So, I had a mad rush to open this thread again in time for her starting.

Fall on first jump, Triple Flip.

Just about landed the first part of combination, the Triple Lutz. (I thought she was going to continue on round!)

But everything else after that was beautiful...

...until the very last jump, the Triple Loop, where I think she was worried about being too close to the boaords.

She goes into the lead of both FS and overall.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Another member who has known Vasilisa longer than me was also watching, and commented:

Vasilisa was bit more stable last season but its nice to see her in international competition now.

To which I replied:

I didn't see her until she was competing internationally (I only saw her really impressive scores). But I totally agree with you. Even at the start of this season, she was more stable than she has been in her past few competitions.

Seeing how she was skating in Kazakhstan and Austria, I thought she was going to win everything she entered. But, then she started making mistakes, and dropping down the order.

I really hope she can find the form she showed at the start of the season soon. Or she might not get the Junior Worlds call-up that I thought she was practically sure of getting.

CaroLiza_fan

And then @Mariiiiskate said:

I think she switched coaching staff after she transferred due to her former coaches starting to work at CSKA at the start of the season. That could maybe be part of the reason.

To which I replied:

That could explain a lot. Because I noticed that it has been her Mum sitting with her at the recent competitions, rather than a coach like she had earlier in the season.

CaroLiza_fan

Vasilisa finished the Free Skate 3.54 points behind 4th position, Sofya TITOVA (ARM), and 4.25 points ahead of 6th position, Elizabeth NOU (EST).

Overall, Vasilisa finished 0.16 points behind 6th position, Nou, and 11.01 points ahead of 7th position, Evelina STAVICKYTĖ (LTU).

Well, it may not have been as high as she got at the Denis Ten Memorial at the start of the season, but this was her second highest Free Skate score of the season, which meant that she also achieved her second highest overall score of the season.

So, she is heading in the right direction. Let's hope this upturn in form continues.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

It may be very late in the season, but it is not over yet for Vasilisa, who is due to compete at the México Cup in Santiago de Querétaro tonight.

I've already mentioned this in the Team thread, but this could be a real challenge for her. Although not as high as México City (2,240m), the altitude of Santiago de Querétaro (1,820m) is pretty much the same as the altitude of Colorado Springs (1,839m). And we have seen skaters that are used to skating nearer to sea level really struggling to breathe at lots of competitions in Colorado Springs over the years.

So, I hope her team have been preparing her for the altitude.

The Junior Ladies SP is due to start tonight at 18:25:00 CST Friday (00:25:00 GMT Saturday / 01:25:00 BST Saturday / 03:25:00 EET Saturday / 03:25:00 MSK Saturday). So 9 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 25th and penultimate skater to start. So, fifth and penultimate skater to go in Group 5 (and fifth skater to go after the second resurfacing).

The Group 5 Warm-Up is due to start at 21:11:00 CST Friday (03:11:00 GMT Saturday / 04:11:00 BST Saturday / 06:11:00 EET Saturday / 06:11:00 MSK Saturday). So 11h 45m from now.

Vasilisa is due to start at 21:39:30 CST Friday (21:39:30 GMT Saturday / 04:39:30 BST Saturday / 06:39:30 EET Saturday / 06:39:30 MSK Saturday). So 12h 14m from now.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

México Cup Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7KB-p_W20E

Vasilisa finished 4th out of 25 in the SP, with a score of 44.37.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE, as I was sleeping. However, I did watch her on the archived livestream when I got up.

Here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the Warm-Up for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

The camera was badly out of focus during the Warm-Up, and as a result it was very hard to identify anybody. I actually had to cheat and wind forward to just before Vasilisa did her programme to find out what she was wearing. She was wearing a pink jacket, with her black dress sticking out underneath it.

For most of the Warm-Up, all we could see of Vasilisa was her crossing back and forth across the camera shot. Eventually, we saw her lining up a jump. She must have circled round out of camera shot and then taken off, because we saw her come back into shot mid-air, and then land it very nicely, just in front of her coach.

After that, we just saw her crossing back and forth across the camera shot for the rest of the Warm-Up. But then, after they were told to leave the ice, she threw in a very nice jump within camera shot. And then something interesting happened. Her coach opened a gate right beside where she was watching from, and Vasilisa left by that gate, while all the other skaters left by another gate.

Another thing I noticed is that the two foreign skaters, Sadie Shen WENG (TPE) and Vasilisa, were the two smallest skaters in the group. And they both kept their jackets on for the whole of the Warm-Up. All the Mexican girls took their jackets off early on in the Warm-Up. So, I wonder if it is particularly cold at this rink, and the Mexicans were used to it but the foreigners weren't.

I hope this isn't a sign that Vasilisa will be a disadvantage.

Here is the sort of comment that I would have written when she was being introduced:

They aren't showing us the skaters getting their results, so we got to see Vasilisa doing her final preparations. But, she was just crossing abck and forth in front of the camera again.

She was still wearing her jacket.

Nice fist bumps with her coach before she set off to get into position

And here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the programme if I had been watching LIVE:

This isn't her "Boléro" dress. Is this a new programme?

It is! We've not got a Russian in Cyprus; we've got "An American In Paris"!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

An instrumental version of "I Got Rhythm!"

Fall on opening Triple Lutz.

And another on the Triple Flip that followed.

Beautiful Flying Camel Spin.

Step Sequence very impressive.

Beautiful Double Axel. That's more like it.

Final two spins beautiful too.

As soon as she finished, her face dropped. She is very disappointed about the falls. But everything else was so good!

I loved the film "An American In Paris". And even though it wasn't clean, I already love this programme.

With a few months of experience practicing it, this is going to be so impressive by the time the Junior GP Series comes around.

She goes into 4th position.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

Looking at the protocols, the TES table reflects what we saw. The first two elements were completely negative, and the rest were completely positive.

The Triple Lutz at the start was supposed to be done in combination, but because it was under-rotated and she fell, she couldn't attach another jump onto the end. It had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.65; and -5 from all the Judges.

The following element, the Triple Flip that she also fell on, didn't have a clear edge. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.36; and -5 from all the Judges.

The remaining elements all got +2's and +3's from all the Judges. Most of the GOE's fell into the range of +0.52 (the Step Sequence) to +0.66 (the Double Axel). But the Change Foot Combination Spin that was her penultimate element reached the heights of +1.05.

Vasilisa is currently 1.16 points behind 3rd position, Cayetana Luis GONZÁLEZ RYABCHIKOVA (MEX), and 4.00 points ahead of 5th position, Addy Montserrat SEGOVIA SOSA (MEX). Vasilisa is the bottom skater in a group of 4 skaters covered by 1.68 points, stretching up to Maria VELÁZQUEZ TOSCANO (MEX) in 1st position.

There is no doubt that the two falls were costly. Were it not for them, I am in no doubt that Vasilisa would be leading after the SP. This is perhaps shown by the fact that she had the highest PCS of the entire field, 1.21 points higher than the skater with the 2nd highest PCE, SP winner Velazquez.

Although she is currently off the podium, Vasilisa is still in a good position to win the title. But, she needs to have a good Free Skate to make up for the mistakes in the Short Programme.

So, let's hope that she does have a good FS.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

The Junior Ladies FS is due to start tonight at 15:15:00 CST (21:15:00 GMT Saturday / 22:15:00 BST Saturday / 00:15:00 EET Sunday / 00:15:00 MSK Sunday). So 7 hours from now.

Vasilisa will be the 22nd skater to start. So, second skater to go in Group 5 (and second skater to go after the second resurfacing).

And that is as much as I can tell you, as the PDF's for the Junior Free Skates are not working. (The PDF's for the Seniors are working).

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

México Cup Junior Ladies FS: Results; Protocols
México Cup Junior Ladies: Results

No video uploaded yet 😞

Vasilisa finished 1st out of 24 in the FS, with a score of 83.34. This meant that she climbed to 1st position overall, with a score of 127.71.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch LIVE, as I was sleeping. However, I did open the archived livestream when I got up. But by the time I came to actually watch it, the stream had been zapped by a copyright claim. So, I didn't get to see her.

I am not a happy bunny, as I was looking forward to seeing if she had a new Free Skate programme.

Although I have not been able to find a video of her Free Skate, her Mum has uploaded a video of the Podium Ceremony to Instagram:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJyp7HAuHsR/

Assuming that she is still wearing her FS costume for the Podium Ceremony, it looks like Vasilisa debuted two new programmes in Santiago de Querétaro. Because she wore red for both of her programmes this season, but she wore black for both of her programmes this week.

Looking at the Protocols, although she had the highest TES by quite a distance (9.25 points more than the skater with the next highest TES), there were quite a few issues. Most of which were not serious enough to be explicitly mentioned in the Protocols.

The opening Triple Flip had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.59. It got -4 from Judge 1; and -3 from the remaining four Judges.

The third element, the Double Lutz, had the third biggest GOE hit, at -0.14. It also got Judges marks of three -1's; and two 0's.

I have to be honest, I found the Protocols a bit confusing for the second half of the programme. But I think I have worked out what was going on.

As her seventh element, she did a Triple Loop. This got the lowest of her positive GOE's, at +0.33; along with Judges marks of two 0's; and three +1's. This was followed by a Triple Loop-Double Axel done in sequence. However, the Double Axel was called as an invalid element for some reason, which meant that the Triple Loop then got called as a repeated element. Anyway, it got the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.98; and -2 from all the Judges.

Although it is not marked as such, it looks like the Choreographic Sequence that was her penultimate element was also invalidated, as it had a Base Value of 0; was given a GOE of 0; and had no Judges marks. At the bottom of Vasilisa's box, it said that she had a 1 point deduction for a Time Violation. So, I am guesing that this is where that comes in. Her Choreographic Sequence was too long, so it was invalidated and she was penalised with a deduction.

Vasilisa finished the Free Skate 6.60 points ahead of 2nd position, Regina LLADÓ FERNÁNDEZ del CAMPO (MEX), and 11.64 points ahead of 3rd position, Cayetana Luis GONZÁLEZ RYABCHIKOVA (MEX).

Overall, Vasilisa finished 5.41 points ahead of 2nd position, Lladó, and 10.48 points ahead of 3rd position, González.

I know that this sounds like I am talking with the benefit of knowing the result, but I had no doubt that my little flame-haired Duracell Bunny would come out and assert her authority.

Although the scores were quite low by Vasilisa's standards, bearing in mind that she was debuting two brand new programmes, I think she did very well.

However, it is a bit concerning to see her get two points deducted for things that can be avoided. If I am right about what the Time Violation was for, well, granted, that is something that can be hard to judge. But starting late is something that shouldn't happen with a skater of this level. But, this is why it is a good idea for skaters to do competitions at this time of year - to test their programmes out on the Judges and Technical officials. To find out what works and what doesn't, and to iron out issues, before you get to the Junior GP Series.

And I can't wait to see her make her Junior GP debut! I'm sure she'll surprise those that have not come across her before with how good she is.

:cheer: WELL DONE VASILISA!!! :cheer:

After the birthday of one of the long-time Cypriot skaters two days ago, it is now the turn of one of the newest team members.

:cheer: HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY VASILISA!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope you have an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for you, both on and off the ice.

I have to admit, I hadn't come across Vasilisa before this season. But I looked her up and saw what she was scoring in Russian domestic competitions the past couple of seasons. So, I knew to expect her to be good. But I wasn't quite prepared for what we got. She was a revelation! After Vasilisa won her first two competitions of the season (her first ever international competitions), I was convinced she was going to continue being unbeaten, and be a shoe-in for the Junior Worlds slot. Unfortunately for her, it didn't work out like that. The form suddenly dipped, and she ended up only being the second substitute, behind Stefania and Varvara.

But after Vasilisa's appearance at the México Cup a few weeks ago, where she debuted her new programmes, I am very excited about next season. I saw her SP and, yes, she had a couple of falls at the start of the programme, but the rest of it was amazing. Unfortunately I didn't see her FS, but the very fact that she absolutely demolished the field indicates that it is going to be pretty amazing too.

Throughout this season, I have been calling Vasilisa my "Flame-Haired Duracell Bunny", referring to her red hair and the fact that everything is so fast and looks so effortless. Well, I saw a video of her training recently and, although she has gone back to her natural hair colour (blonde), the rest of the title is still accurate!

This coming season is going to be so exciting. I can't wait to see Vasilisa on the Junior GP circuit for the first time. And how how the rest of the season goes after that.

But before all that, I hope she enjoys her birthday.
