Viktoria Safonova (Виктория Сафонова) is a Belorussian single skate, who was born on May 8, 2003. She originally skated for Russia. She placed 14th at the 2018 Russian Junior Nationals and 8th at the 2018 Russian Cup Final. She qualified for the 2019 Russian Junior Nationals. She is coached by Oksana Matveeva.

I have never seen her jump 3Lz+3Lo but according to protocols of Alexei Mishin Cup she did one today, and not only did she jump that in 2nd half but she received 13.65 points for it. She recently made her international debut at the 2018 Ice Star where she won the gold medal with a score of about 175 points.

You read my mind! I was about to go start a thread for her! Glad we didn't have another Hanna Harrell situation (like me and puremagic last year) :)

It's great to see that Vika is getting some good results this year, I like her a lot.

She did very well at the Mishin Cup but couldn't beat Sinitsyna who won the event. Vika was 2nd with a score of about 192 points.

I think Vika will make her JGP debut as long as she skates well at junior nationals.

Since Russia is hosting a JGP next year, there's now room for 7 skaters to have 2 events with 1 skater having 1 event (or 9 skaters with 1, and 6 that get a second). So, Vika has much better chances of making the final than if Russia didn't host.

Anyway, I think the hierarchy for JGP spots at this point is Valieva, Kanysheva, Usacheva, Tarakanova, Kromykh, Sinitsyna, Vasilieva, and then Vika. The only other contenders I can see getting spots are Shabotova and Frolova, so I think if she beats them at junior nationals / elder age nationals, she has a good chance to get a spot.

Tarakanova will be senior eligible next year, won't she? Well Vika is older but maybe she can take similar route as Konstantinova.. Although she's already a world class skater, it's so difficult to get to GP in Russia.. :scratch2: But I sure would love to see her at GP..

Yes, she'll be eligible, but as she's so far down on the SB list, she probably won't get spots, which makes me think they'll hold her in juniors.
And even if for some reason they don't, that just leaves more room on the list for Vika and Frolova/Shabotova to get spots :)

It seems she will represent Belarus in the future. I don't know If she has already been released by the Russian Fed. The google translation would indicate that she has been released but the translation might not be accurate. Anyway, it is possible that she could skate at the JGP events already this season.

Belarusian skaters begin the competitive period! On August 9-10, the Summer Cup of the Belarusian Union of Skaters will be held on the ice of the speed skating stadium. Competitions will be the first start of the skaters in the 2019/2020 season, where new programs will be presented. The tournament will feature skaters of all categories - from juniors to adult athletes.

At the summer Cup of the NGO “BSK”, the legionnaires - sports pair Victoria Yatsenko and Daniil Parkman will begin their history of performing under the Belarusian flag. Individuals Victoria Safonova and Konstantin Milyukov from the new season will also represent Belarus in competitions. The Summer Cup will become for them a kind of acquaintance with Belarusian colleagues, coaches, and judges.

The Summer Cup of the Belarusian Union of Skaters is a test tournament for representatives of Belarus at the Grand Prix series, which will begin at the end of August. In addition, at the tournament, figure skaters need to fulfill the control standard, since this is not just a competition, but also general rentals of members of the national team.

In addition to the competitive part, the Summer Cup of the NGO “BSK” includes the educational part for judges and coaches. Judge of the international category in ice dancing Alla Shekhovtsova from Russia will hold a seminar where to share useful information about the features of the judging system in the new season.

For the first time there will be an online broadcast of the competition, a link to which is available on Skating.by

Thanks, yet another channel to monitor for news and results ;-)

Given Safronova's comfortable lead over the BLR home girls, she'll be a worthy contender in JGP. Hopefully the administrative transfer has been completed by now. Viktoriya herself would probably be very relieved when it all works out.

Her flight in free skating starts at 12:30 pm Minsk time and she'll be last of 6 skaters, so probably around 13:00, don't miss it!

Busy rink, with speed skaters in training, curling being trained and skaters warming up behind the boarding.

Viktoriya is the standout!! SP with 125.57 and 189.74 overall.

Such low level displayed by the local BLR girls it isn't even worth mentioning the details. This was BSU's JGP qualification, was it, so Safonova has gotten the spot?

BSU have wonderful premises in Minsk Arena. Perhaps the arrival of Safonova will give BLR girls the necessary incentive to try and catch up.

So is this girl forgotten? I'm happy for Anna Frolova to get 2 JGP spots but Viktoria also deserved one, IMHO.. but well, she's already 16...

She's switched countries. She should be getting many more opportunities skating for Belarus in the future.
