Taisei Miyakawa (also known as Miya), the singer of Raison d'Être, in collaboration with Yuzuru Hanyu for the Fantasy on Ice 2022 Tour B, is a "memeber" (of Youtune, Yuzuru Hanyu's Youtube channel) and in his latest podcast, he spoke of Yuzuru Hanyu's first live chat with memebers, answering his fans who for instance told him that Yuzuru Hanyu was speaking very fast:

So, is a "cutie" (Miya) missing here?

More Hanyuconomy... Note that "in all sizes" which indicates that people were prepared to buy any of them. I am hoping they can make the shirts available overseas (they will sell!) though it seems that they are able to sell as many as they can make in Japan. Also hoping that we get clips on the Japanese news or from fans after the event.

The sold-out charity T-shirt already has some celebratory fanart of its own

The calendar season is amazing this year! Another wonderful offer has just been announced today: the GOAT daily calendar with 366 Yuzuru photos, one per each day, covering all of his career up to date, from juniors to Re_Pray! Plus bilingual descriptions in Japanese and English (yes, English!!) And it is perpetual i.e. you can adjust it and use it for different years (I am not sure how it works :scratch2: but surely makes it a good value for money)
To be published on Yuzu's birthday, December 7. Number 1 on Amazon JP (as pre-orders) by now
I guess this one is to stand on your desk, so it does not exclude having others on your walls, not at the slightest

So, the charity T-shirts have been back for sale today, with a notion that they will be sent April 2025. I wonder if it means they took a safe approach and are now collecting an unlimited number of orders (and money for them) and will produce an appropriate additional quantity of T-shirts, no matter what the quantity turns out to be, to avoid a sold-out fiasco like yesterday, and build on the momentum for the cause. I saw people rejoicing at their successful purchase on the internet and thought this might have been the (wise and clever) solution to the excessive demand :) Anyway, congratulations to Yuzu and co. God bless for Noto!

The T-shirts are wholly made in the Hokuriku region, to support zones affected by the earthquake. I believe that they have a fabrication and delivery calendar planned months ahead, and that after the first batch, their next availability is April 2025, and I'm happy for them. The project won't order additional T-shirts to the earliest available maker abroad, this would defy the object, so we must wait. I suppose that the first batch was ordered much earlier this year, before knowing how much attention the event would gather, therefore rather conservatively.
Here's the plant which makes the fabric:

I hadn't posted about it here, but one of the Yuzuru Hanyu 2025 calendar, showing Yuzuru Hanyu under a petal rain, was particularly appreciated by fan, because a forefront petal was on his hair to a beautiful effect.
Some days ago, the photo was edited and this very petal suppressed. Of course, there were complaints and I suppose that the sales dropped.
Two days ago, the petal came back:

The Thai boy who is wearing an Otonal costume is on now in Bangkok. It's sweet.
Sweet! Still I think I have seen several juniors in costumes apparently inspired by Yuzu style in this year's JGPs (which is lovely of course and shows how important and relatable he still is, even for those youngest in the sport)

Elizabeth Peyton's paintings and installations exhibition in the oldest Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto which we have talked about several posts ago (the previous page, I think) has received really a lot of coverage in Japanese media, especially in the art-dedicated press and outlets. They do not just mention it but provide full-fledged and very warm reviews of the new works of this world-renown artist. Yuzu is not the only celebrity portrayed - there are works inspired by Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and Kurt Cobain, too, as well as historic Buddhist figures related to the temple, among other works. What a company!
Apparently it is the first solo exhibition of her work in Japan in 7 years and is drawing a lot of attention both from the media and the public.
(I've seen quite a few articles as well as reports from those who visited - and sometimes even made in it in time to be able to attend the traditional tea-ceremony in the tea-room where Yuzu portrait is displayed). There are too many of them to post them all, here's one selected and linked by Marika, providing a broad review of the whole exhibition, not just focused on Yuzuru (though on him, too, of course).

When Yuzuru Hanyu was at elementary school in Sendai, one of his classmates was an autistic boy and young Yuzuru was friendly to him, and followed him later. This boy's father is very grateful, and an article in Asahi Shimbun, normally under paywall, is free until tomorroy (September 13th) 8h08 am, Japan time:
https://digital.asahi.com/articles/ASQ2M6SNXQ2MUTIL008.html?ptoken=01J7HNH09XK5Y1QJEWMTWBR40M

Here's an automated translation of the article:
The Beijing Winter Olympics will come to a close on the evening of 20 November. The athletes who worked hard and stood on the big stage have left an indelible mark on many people's hearts.

The ‘neighbourhood kid who skates’ showed no signs of changing on the world stage.

Toshiaki Sakata, 62, self-employed in Kanazawa, cheered for Yuzuru Hanyu, 27, who competed in the men's figure skating event. His eldest son Yuki (27), who is autistic and attended a special-needs class, was a friend of his from elementary and junior high school. He was always concerned about her and kindly taught her how to skate in school skating classes.

In March 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake struck. The then 16-year-old Hanyu was struck by the disaster while practising at a skating rink in Sendai, and had to move from place to place. Sakata and her family evacuated to Kanazawa City. In June of the same year, when they met Hanyu again after he visited Kanazawa for an ice show, he unintentionally uttered, ‘Are you OK?’ I know how hard things are in my hometown. I know the difficult situation in my hometown. I felt guilty and said, ‘Of course I'm not alright.

Hanyu, as if anticipating the situation, responded with a slight nod and said, ‘It's alright.

 Do you remember Yu Xi?’

 ‘How could I forget?’

His unchanged smile returned. I knew that Hanyu was a good friend of mine. However, Hiroki was sometimes restless and I was worried that he was causing her trouble. But his answer allayed my fears.

While the parents were having a reunion conversation, Hanyu gently approached Yuhee's sister, who was alone on the ice of the skating rink, and explained how the ice works when she spotted her.

Even after he became a star athlete in the limelight, the way he treated her as ‘Yuuki's father’ did not change.

Mr Sakata formed an association to support Hanyu as he travelled around the country and published a newsletter, ‘HANE NEWS’, from October 2011. It celebrated its 100th issue on 15 January this month and covered his success in Beijing.

Amid expectations of a third consecutive victory, the short programme was caught in a hole in the ice. In the free programme, she took on the world's first quad axel (four and a half revolutions). The result was fourth place. 'Thank you for your hard work. Thank you.’

She bears all the expectations of those around her, but is also attentive to other skaters. At the Olympics, she was friendly with the other skaters and applauded them.

I think of Hanyu, who is the same on and off the rink. I would like to expand the circle of compassion like Hanyu,’ he says, ’and not just cheer him on. (Takaaki Fujino)
