Yuzuru Hanyu

Who are the Miyagi Prefecture heroes? A survey among Junior High School and High School students gave Date Masamune (founder of Sendai, and model for instance of mascot NekoMasamune) as first, Yuzuru Hanyu as second, and Shizuka Arakawa as third:

Edit: Even less surprising, a ranking of refrigerator and freezer accessories on Rakuten, the Haier refrigerator covers featuring Yuzuru Hanyu monopolise the three first ranks:

Edit 2: Actually it's not even less surprising because these magnet covers can be used only on one model of Haier refrigerator, while the rest is shock absorbers/levellers, plastic floor mats and the like, usable with most refrigerators of all brands.

The only one above him is the actual founder of the city.

Sendai really does love their ice prince.
It has to be noted that as popularity comes, from what I read which is certainly very little, the Sandwichman comic duo seems as popular as Yuzuru Hanyu. But in this survey the question was, who are the heroes of Miyagi? Either the Sandwichman aren't perceived as heroic in comparison of Yuzuru Hanyu or Shizuka Arakawa, or they don't appeal as much to the younger generation.

8 years ago today 100K+ people gathered in Sendai to celebrate Yuzuru's second OGM for a parade.
I guess that was truly unprecedented crowd to get together to celebrate just one athlete, no performance included !!!
Oh, wait! it was the second time, the first one being his first OGM (92K people turned up) :)

Quadruple Axel had promised postcards to those who attended March 30th Taketoshi Hara's online lecture on The Indisputable Charms of Figure Skater Yuzuru Hanyu in the Eyes of a Designer, or its archive. The shipping has started:

I love that these people are running lectures on Yuzuru!

Oh, and here is what Machida said about him... recognising the uniqueness of Yuzu brilliance and beauty...

Today is the eighth anniversary of Yuzuru Hanyu's second Olympic Parade in Sendai:

Here's the video:

This fan was there and reported in English:

This is some additional interesting official data on the 2018 Yuzu Olympic Parade attended by 100K+ people.
Not only did the direct income from selling merchandise cover all the costs of organizing the parade with the surplus donated to Tohoku and Sendai City Recovery Fund. Total economic impact of the parade on the local economy, including the income generated by domestic and foreign tourists who attended, was estimated as 1.85 billion yen (appx. USD 11.6 million). Wow!!!!:clap::clap: And he did not even have to skate :)

If I may be fastidious... 1.85 Billion yens of 2018 was something like 16 Million USD.
