Injury-free, Young You (유영) of the Republic of Korea is eager for a fresh comeback for the 2024-25 figure skating season. The 2020 Four Continents silver medalist capped off her season this year at the World Championships with a 12th place finish. However, the skater faced formidable challenges over the past two seasons, grappling with injuries and enduring a mentally demanding period following the Olympic season.

While grappling with injuries, she secured an 11th and eighth place finish at her two Grand Prix events—Skate America and Grand Prix Espoo. As a result, she faced a significant challenge in qualifying for the World Championships. This accomplishment was particularly noteworthy given the formidable competition within Korea, where the domestic skating scene boasts considerable strength.

In this interview, we delve into You’s 2023-24 season, where she sheds light on the decision to switch her programs mid-season. Additionally, she offers a glimpse into the possibility of acquiring new programs for the upcoming season, while also sharing some of the songs she envisions skating to in the future.

The popular skater is especially grateful to her fans. The 19-year-old points out what their support means to her, and which kind of presents moved her the most.

You also discusses the increasing demands of her daily schedule since enrolling in university and highlights the aspects she enjoys about her life as a new student.

One special reason to look forward to the 2024-25 for You is the announced return of her good friend Alysa Liu of the United States. You tells us how the two connected during the Olympic season, how she heard about Liu’s comeback and what makes them such good friends. Hopefully, the two of them will be able to share the ice successfully again soon!
