Well I think the music choice is maybe not helping.. perhaps something more "creative" could go very well with the increased TES? You know him better, is there (FS) music you'd wish for him to skate to?
I concur, the music choice is not helping him as -IMO- it lacks a buildup and is too soft for him. This violin version is great for ice dancers or girls, or maybe for more 'flowy' guys like Deniss, but not for Sota. A piano version would suit his skating much more. Same issue as with 'Dragon', it's a bit too bland, and with Sota focusing on his difficult jump layout (plus he said the levels for steps and spins are a challenge as well, with the new rules), there isn't much he can do to sell a program whose music isn't his strength in the first place.
There are various pieces of music that are much more his style, and he was even considering some, like Latin, but IDK why he settled on this one in the end. Perhaps the sentimental slow tune makes him more at ease jump-wise... But not going to lie, I won't be sorry to see this music go next year (hopefully).

I saw the women's SP yesterday. I like Mai the best. She performs in her usual trusty elegant style, nothing groundbreaking, but very pleasant to watch, and well expressed.
Mana was looking very good, although her music in the first half hurts my ears.
Rion really caught my eye this time, she has an original program and sells it well, pity that the jumps didn't work out. her dress has got to be one of the most unflattering ones I have seen recently, though. Whose bright idea was it to have loose fabric and frills on the belly?
I'd give Yuhana Miyabi's The Artist, it would suit her much better than the Indian theme she had, or maybe she just wasn't in competitive shape yet. But she's one of the most expressive Japanese ladies and I always look forward to seeing he perform.
I hope Rino is well. Do we know now why she WD? -_-
