Stephane should skip the GP final. He is in no shape to compete still obviously. Still blowing all his jumps and giving up competitions to lesser skaters he used to beat in his sleep.

wow, Lambiel still got the highest PCS -- it would actually be a major gift to all of his fans if he could skate this program clean once. I find it over the top amazing and beautiful.

I know.

But even with some jumping woes, the rest of it is brilliantly choreographed and performed.
I would LOVEEEEEEEE to see it sans the mistakes though.

Has he qualified for the final?

If so, I think he should definitely give it a go for my very selfish reason.
Any top level competition without him is just not right.

Stephane should qualify to the GPF with 5th or 6th. Takahashi and Griazev still has to compete at NHK. Stephane should currently be in 4th

Jeffrey Buttle is OUT

He is pretty much certain to make it now yes. It will be Lambiel, Weir, Takahashi, Van Der Perren (ugh), Chan, and Lysacek. I think he should skip it though, he is embarassing right now. Today he landed only 2 clean triples and 0 clean quads with that.

My feed came back up BTW. His triple salchow was underrotated, the tech. specialist should downgraded it to a double but we will see, and the triple flip was a double not a triple. So he only had a triple lutz and triple loop clean, or 3 if they gave him the triple salchow. That isnt even a good senior ladies jump content program.

About Johnny needing 10 extra points, while it would be a nice security the interesting fact is that only one other skater this season has even approached Johnny's FS score: Evan Lysacek. In general the most important thing for Johnny to do is to be consistent, since that is the biggest problem that male skaters seem to have these days. Just look at the main competitors:

Stephane Lambiel (Hasn't shown any consistency this season)
Evan Lyascek (Often bombs short programs)
Daisuke Takahashi (On and off)
Brian Joubert (Injuried often)

You're right -- and Weir clearly is working on 'clean' - great approach. I was just thinking best case scenario where lot's skate clean, what would Weir need to stay on the podium -- anyway, cart before the horse I suppose and anyway, I really don't want to take away at all from his accomplisments thus far - he has seriously made strides and is building a great season portfolio!

I remember Johnny saying, when interviewed after winning at Cup of China,
"I'd better win!" about Cup of Russia lol; it looks as if Galina Zmievskaya is very, very good for him! ;)

Thanks so much for the pbp and also for the statistics for each competitor before the description of their skate.

This has been a very exciting afternoon!

I feel "as high as an elephant's eye". Higher! ;)

Congratulations, Andrei and Johnny! May more good things come to you in the future!

I just realized if Griazev comes 2nd at NHK behind Takahashi he would qualify for the GP final ahead of Van Der Perren.

Well, Weir's second triple Axel was downgraded to a double - so he was not even clean - plus, he forgot the third combo. I wish that Stéphane skated better, the message to Johnny seems to be: do a nearly flawless performance with 7 triples and without a quad - and you win against the best. It just won't be that easy at Worlds, or the GPF, for that matter.

Well who knows what will be good enough this season. The mens event have been pretty awful, his scores in the long are actually the highest without a quad so far since Lambiel, Takahashi, Joubert, all to varying degrees have been a mess. Lysacek is consistent but mediocre compared to Weir's talent level, enough it should negate a quad when you compare those particular two skaters. I dont think Buttle, Verner, or Oda are even in the ballgame this year.
