I thought the Olympics was supposed to be about the world coming togther, but for some reason this board has turned into a very hateful place.:disapp:
You're right, and the odd thing is it actually happens in real life as well, not just limited to the boards. The cold war was on big time at the arena last night.
It's not about patriotism either. You can still love those from your country, but enjoy others. Yet, I didn't see that at the arena. All around me except for a few there was this big time hate against Evgeni. Now I see why people say that skating in one's home country or continent can help. I now believe that, which I never did before. It took attending the Olympics live to make me realize that there is validity behind that argument. As well as the home country/continent push.
Sports makes one's real self come out, prejudice & hate being a part of that...
Good god, if you think what's going on in these boards is hateful, try talking to some footie fans, or worse yet, attending one of them fútbol games. Or observe Korean speed skating fans. I think it was in 2002 or 2006, when Apolo Anton Ohno won over a Korean skater on a foul call, Korean fans responded by launching a denial of service attack on various American and Olympic websites. And that's just the beginning of their hateful festivities, you can read about the rest here:

The good-natured bickering and hilarious snarking on these boards is harmless fun.
^^ Well, you do realize we haven't reached the ladies' event yet when the sh!t is really expected to hit the fan with the Yu-Na vs. Mao fan/bot wars. I'll probably have to stay away from the boards next week (we probably won't even be able to log into the forum due to the likely crash that will occur).
ITA This is the first time, I've been doing the board watching the Olympics and it's added a lot more fun. I have no one around me into figure skating as I am, and it's so wonderful to be talking to people with so much knowledge and passion about skating.

I'm watching Olympic coverage on American television, which gives me a very valid excuse for expressing my hate. If I could choose a commentating team that wasn't so biased and actually respected and appreciated all the world's athletes equally maybe I wouldn't be suffering from male PMS, mkay.
Heh.
Passion. We're passionate enough to debate endlessly with people we don't know around the world about a sport we love. Things get heated.
