I can understand someone being "nervous." But, I'm not nervous. If you listen to the interview they did with Branden Harvey and what they said during the Worlds press conference, they make it very clear that they are in a different place. They are older, more experienced and "know what they want to say on the ice." They find sources of inspiration in many different people and places. Art. Photography. Non-skaters. I bet they will learn a lot from Lambiel, one of the great creative skaters of our time, and they will then make things their own.

The Shibs are also not skaters that are simply going to take whatever music some coach gives to them, and perform whatever choreography someone gives them. There are some skaters who have been "raised" in the sport to not think for themselves. But, that is not who the Shibs are. Especially now.

Marina obviously trusts them and gives them the freedom to explore what they can learn from many different people. As a team, then they know how to come up with programs that work for them. Consider for example how much Fix You changed between its debut and the Grand Prix season.

Lots of skaters give lip service to the whole idea of continuing to improve. Shibs have shown it especially in the past few seasons. They are clearly committed to going those extra miles to continue improving.

When I saw the pics from Amsterdam, then Switzerland... I didn't know what to think, but you're right, no need to be nervous. If anyone knows what they're doing, how to go about it and work their skates off to reach the goal they set themselves (with a little constructive advice from Steph or anybody else who is allowed in at the choreo side of things) that would be the Shibs. I trust them 100%. They are very intelligent and know exactly what their game plan is. I'm so looking forward to see whether they'll come out already all guns blazing in the pre-Olympic season.

Print interview with Maia about Alex and herself:

The interview (accompanied by three photos) is on pp. 2-3 of the May hard-copy issue of Chopsticks NY, which is a freebie English-language monthly, targeting those interested in all things Japanese: culture, products, food, etc. (Lots of advertising re Japanese products and Japanese restaurants.)
In NYC, the hard-copy version of the publication is available all over the place -- from sidewalk stands and mainstream supermarkets, for example -- as well as from Japanese grocery stores and restaurants.
On a visit to San Francisco, I have seen hard copies available in Japantown.

Hope the article will bring the Shibs to the attention of some new potential fans :).

Maia and Alex are back in LA. Looks like they are at Paramount Studios making a TV or Movie appearance with Nickelodeon.

They seem to be good friends with Dante Basco.

They have been going non stop since Worlds. Lots of charity work in Boston, NY and LA. Training and working with Stephane and lots of dancers. New exhibition. First top team to announce their Short dance music.

Not much in their vlog this time around (as they mention themselves). I enjoyed the bit where Jeff Buttle is rehearsing the group in the parking lot-nicely edited. And how glamorous for them to rehearse in a parking lot, lol. Good thing the weather was nice.

ETA: 1,000th post! Only took me over 2 years to get there. Wonder how long it will take to reach 2K?

Shibs seems relentless and hard at work. More hip hop training in LA with the dancers they trained with a few weeks back. (Click on the photo and see the artists tagged) Hokuto Konishi and Aye Hasegawa.

Seems very smart that they are working with both a male and female specialist together. Probably lets them go beyond just the idiom but also to the connection when two people perform hip hop style together.

I found an awesome video of Aye Hasegawa and Hokuto Konishi dancing to will.i.am's "Bang Bang" playing a deranged couple. I can actually see this working as a SD mixed with the blues rhythm if not for the Shibs since it's about a romantic couple (driving each other crazy):

Here's a cute and less deranged video of them together dancing to A-Ha's "Take on Me":

Their individual videos are VERY impressive. I think it's not only smart of the Shibs to work with both a male and female hip hop specialist, but Asian ones as well. A lot of people don't realize that hip hop dance crews are HUGE in the Asian-American community and I think they'll have a great rapport with one another.

The Shibs were in Ben Brown's (a big YouTuber with over half a million subscribers) vlog from VidCon! Here's the link.
It's so great that they continue to do what they enjoy outside of the skating world and how they promote the sport to such large audiences. And it was pretty cool to see them in Ben's vlog - I never thought they would cross paths with him!
I'm just so impressed with everything they do and how they're always involved in something and always doing something that will work for them in the future

The Grand Prix assignments are released!

The Shibs are going to Skate America and Cup of China. To be honest, I thought they'd go to NHK, but apparently V/M are going there; and team USA is represented by Hawayek/Baker.

Cup of China has them in a group with WeaPo, SinKats, Cannuscio/McManus, Paul/Islam and Stepanova/Bukin, along with Chinese dancers and Kaliszek/Spodirev from Poland.

At SA we have Tobias/Tkachenko, Guignard/Fabbri, Muramoto/Reed, Kim/Minov, B/S, I/Z, Agafonova/Ucar, and H/D!

Happy 1000th post! Let this be a new beginning of a new era for the Shibs :)
