I don't think lakeside was that vitrolic, to be honest. I agree with Buttercup in that with Javier, there's a bit of the underdog aspect. He left Morosov (which instantly means we want him to succeed), comes from a federation where skating isn't that big (and we'd like it to be so. I think Spain should definitely be hosting a GPF or Europeans sometime within the next five years) and seems to be a nice guy. If he has faults that we overlook, I'd argue it's because he was undermarked for years, unlike those other European skaters who seemed to be constantly overmarked no matter what they do.
I'm a little surprised at the veneration of Oda, though. His PCS don't deserve to be THAT high - I'd love to see someone explain why they feel otherwise.
