98 for Kaitlin and Jean-luc in their FD. Hubbell and Donahue just earned 100 at Finlandia. I know judges at competitions can vary but this should give K/J-L some confidence that they are gaining some momentum on the top 3 US teams.

Lol, I was thinking the same after H/D`s score came up, especially since I find H/B`s hip hop Short Dance stronger than H/D`s.

Had hoped for at least one place higher in SD. Oh well:(. Wishing them luck in the FD today!

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2016/10/29/207887156 Icenet article about fashion at Skate Canada.

The fashion critique Sam Donovan gave a 2016 Skate Canada fashion bronze to Kaitlin and Jean-Luc's SD costumes. :)

I am infinitely charmed by these two simply due to their equal ability to lift each other off the ice, but I am even more impressed with Hawayek's fabulously sexy dress for the pair's short dance. Yes, she carried the entire stylistic weight of the team on her back, and with a dress that good, it's hard to find her at fault. Sexy, stylish and bold.

:yahoo:

I'm so happy that they presented two beautiful performances at NHK. They also finally broke 100 in the FD! :yay:

They competed in such a deep and most fierce field after Skate Canada. Well done. Since they set up a new PB, I hope they soon break 170 too!

OMG, I`m sooo happy for them! :yahoo:

After last year`s disappointment at Nats and one team after the other leaving the DSC, I thought that they maybe had also to leave to move up the ranks, but now it`s clear how much they benefitted from being the top team at that rink. I also think that this coaching team works the best when they have one team they can focus on, it was also partly why W/P improved so much with their help. Back in 2010 and 2011 W/P were their main team, since Faiella/Scali left for Linichuk and their rise in the rankings from one season to the next was unbelievable. My hope is that we will see something similar with Kaitlin and Jean-Luc.

Is it too soon to hope for a 3rd place at Nats? H/D`s Short Dance hasn`t been received very well and H/B`s FD score isn`t that far off from what H/D are getting.
Anyway, H/B are on the entry list for the Golden Spin, so another opportunity to get out 2 strong performances before Nats.

They were so good at NHK! Their free dance is gorgeous from beginning to end. They have the potential to have a real moment at Nationals.

H/B have way better daces both FD & SD than HD :slink: HD are way overrated imo:hopelessness:

& yeah i was rooting against them at NHK but will be rooting for them at US NAts

Hmm... I wonder why you were rooting against them. :p ;)

Seriously though, despite all the annoyance at "Feeling Good", I think H/B's SD is better too. Seen some people complain about "white people dancing", but they're young and have a lot of energy throughout the program, so it's still fun to watch. (Kinda feel the same way about Stepanova/Bukin SD. So random. So silly. So fun.)

I wouldn't say that H/D are overrated. They actually have had at least two programs that will, I think, stand the test of time: their Queen FD (Z/G's is a very poor retread of it) and last year's SD to kd lang's version of Hallelujah. The problem is they aren't quite so great that they can transcend subpar choreography. They're really at the mercy of their programs. And I agree that their programs this year are subpar: the SD is a mess and the FD is boring.

Honestly, at least this year I would be much happier if H/B move up to third in the US. It probably won't happen...but it should.

They are one of the few teams doing actual hiphop choreography for at least some of their program. Kaitlyn needs a bit more "face" and really needs to work on her extension (it's much better than it was, but I think it would really make them look more polished if she did). But man have her edges improved. And really, people forget they are not only chronologically young skaters, but they are a relatively new team. Go back and look at their first year together in juniors and then rewatch their programs from NHK. Heck, look at last year's programs and you will be amazed at how far they've progressed. And what a staggering amount of potential that is still relatively untapped.

They do have one advantage over P/C: they're better "ballroom" style dancers. Jean-Luc is right out of that great British tradition of ballroom skaters. And Kaitlyn is catching up fast. I would bet big bucks they'll go in that direction next year. P&A are no fools. They have to be aware that their stock has gone down. So they're doing the smart thing with H/B and betting on their future. And look at what being their number one team has done for H/B already.
