A lot of people have seen SOI and have or are about to see COI. There's always a lot of talk about why some skaters are in and others are out. My question is, if you had to create a two-act ice show, it had to tour all over the world, and you had a limit of ten core skaters and four guest stars, one of whom would appear in each show, whom would you choose?
I've had to leave out some favorite skaters in order to achieve balance, but mine are:
The "sparklies" -- to open and change the pace:
Sasha Cohen (open the show)
Stefan Lindemann (open Act II)
Petrova/Tikhonov who could provide the sexy with humor antidote to the romanticism.
Belbin/Agosto with their extroversion and speed
The "individualists"
Ilia Klimkin (must do the Enya program at least once)
Delobel/Schoenfelder (limited to one S&M number )
Savchenko/Szolkowy
The "classicists" -- beautiful lines, blades, and posture
Berezhnaia/Sikuharlidze (to close before group number)
Jeffrey Buttle
Shizuka Arakawa (limited to one "girl" song)
My guests would be:
Ilia Kulik (so he has some family time)
Yuka Sato
Julia Sebestyen
Susanna Poykio (limited to one "girl" song)
With the noted exceptions, they'd be able to choose their own music, in whatever language (if there were lyrics) or genre, as long as there was a little variance in the two programs.
