Elladj switched coaches since last season, and you can already see a big difference in his ability and confidence. Last season he also was dealing with a concussion. I don't think it matters how he performed in the past, only how he will do from now on. And Kevin unfortunately may never be able to reach his potential...who knows if and when we will even see him compete again.
Men - I was really surprised Ithought Max Aaron and Menshov would come out dualing and it was the Canadian man winning both programs and I think he is like probably at best th e 4th seed from Canada (Nguyen, Chan and if healthy and with decent skate boots Ryenolds being ahead)
.
"You know, Kaetlyn - she is a bit clumsy"
"I am very, very, very clumsy" "I have a lot of trouble walking a straight line, trouble walking on carpet, I have trouble walking up-stairs".
"The only time I am really not clumsy is when I am on blades, it´s actually easier to be on blades than without"
"It was the day after I came back learning a new choreography, so I was going through my program, trying to figure out my choreography and in my long program there are so many twists and turns and I couldn´t see where I was going so, when I saw someone I tried to stop, but I was halfway through a turn so I tried to put down my right leg to stop and that´s when it started snapping"
"I didn´t hit anyone, well I hit the boards I think"
"It´s actually a really fun place to practice, I skate in two different rings and one of them is actually in a mall, so I´ve got to skate in front of the crowd every single day and it definitely added to my performance and we got to deal with distraction and ...
"there are people who laugh at us and we have to deal with what people think about us and if they point at us after a fall, - actually most of them don´t think we are that great"
"the section when I injured myself, that section is no longer there - that is gone!"
"Skating is a lot more than just jumps, it´s something, I have grown up with as I never was a really good jumper until recently. Therefore I always worked hard on my spins, choreography to make up for this".
"It´s the first time I did a Tango program and it´s something I always wanted to do. It was also the first time that I worked with someone else than Lance Vipond. The program is definitely a favorite of mine, I really like it"
"I´ve never been healthy enough and before I never had any motivation to try one. The element sure add´s a lot and its worth the risk, but I want to make sure that my other elements are fine first, before I add something new"
The 19 years old also added, that ...
"Elizaveta´s triple Axel last year was absolutely amazing, I just couldn´t get over, how gorgeous it was, but at the same time there is the rest of the program, if you land the triple Axel and nothing else than it will not really add up"
"If you can land it, then go for it, but if not, then it´s not worth it".
"Gabby & Alaine, they came first and second last year in Canada and each year, they have been building up their program just like I did mine and we have always been battling it over, - who got the better programs that day and last year they proved that they can put out very good programs as well so that´s going to be a very interesting competition for sure and I want my title back"
"I am also looking forward to getting Grands Prix done and it would be the first time I achieved two Grands Prix a season and I want to make the world team and my best placement there is 8th, so I want to improve on that as well"
"The short program was more difficult always. Only in the Olympic season we were good in Short Program. So I think, its same story because our experience is completely gone after a year and a half out of competition, so I think its just story that will repeat."
"The feeling for competition was much better in the Long than the Short and we learned a lot from yesterday."
Dracula, a program choreographed by Nikoli Morozov, was actually Maxims own idea as he explained.
"We prepared the program already for last season, but could not show it due my injury. The Dracula was actually my idea because I wanted to do the opposite of Jesus Christ Superstar and we also really liked the music of Van Helsing and Bram Stokers Dracula".
"Before, we did compete with couples who had harder elements like Aljona and Robin with their triple Axel or the Chinese and could win. So we can still win without it. Also, I can not throw my wife like that, for me its too dangerous. For the Twist maybe, as its my control, but for throws - no I am just very polite with the girls, it´s very hard for them and I understand it´s scary"
"First my wife has to born a baby for me, maybe after I can throw her."
"Other countries, they do look at the quad throws, quad twists and they might say, OK this discipline is not for us and I would be surprised if we have more than 15 in the Europeans and it´s a little problem, not so many pairs skaters around the world"
"But for the juniors circle, there it´s amazing like the Czech couples, or the Australians Matthew and Paris who were here, it´s amazing that pairs skating now grows in new countries too"
"On international level, it´s only three years for us, it´s not much and there is one ISU medal we don´t have, so ...
Maybe we will stay and compete for that Cup of China medal..."
"not this year though"
"We researched music last year and wanted to pick something that shows our power and big tricks and elements, but also maturity that so many other pairs have. We didn´t want to fall behind and therefore picked this soundtrack."
"We want to show quads, as the sport has to progress. We can handle a quad twist and will start practicing quad throws now"
"We are happy with our LP performance, it is a great way to start the season and we will take it from here and keep improving"
"You know we had technical errors in the short and FS, so that´s a bit disappointing, but the way we skated was a good start into the season and we are looking forward to Skate in America"
"You know, I started skating at the age of eight and never planned about doing it professionally, it was more just for fun, but ya - now I am here, right?"
"Skating is my whole life"
"Besides skating, I love snowboarding and if I go to America for practice and its winter, then I always go up to the mountains, snowboarding for a few days you know"
"I don´t try anything crazy, I do a couple of ramps, but it´s really just modest stuff, I am really careful there, I promise"
"I LOVE OBERSTDORF, I am so coming to this competition EVERY single year, it´s one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, - I love the mountains and everything and the competition went well, I really loved it here."
"good snowboarding"
"I have two different extremes, like I can be really lazy at my house and wear track pants and just baggy clothing or I can dress up like I am going on to the red carpet, there is no inbetween I swear. But if it comes to my dresses in competition, then I take all the time I need to make them exactly as I want them! It´s quite stressful, but a lot of fun"
"The SP "Flamenco Fire" by Diduly, it´s more like a fun sort of pace, a bit spanishy, but boppy at the same time. I really like the program and got it in December, before the Nationals."
"I skated to it when I was like nine years old, just at a kiddy level, but I really love the music and wanted to use it again. I really like the powerful pace at the end, its a lot of fun"
"No, there is not too much skating in Australia, but I get a lot of support from the community and my whole country supports me and I get to see the oversea competitions which is really nice and I get a lot of choices".
"You guys are so awesome, that´s kind of the stuff that keeps me going, the different posts and it´s so amazing to see that people actually, like watching me skate as I don´t like to watch myself do it, as I always find something to criticize there."
"Keep going, if there are any figure skaters out there, keep going and push hard, you will breach to what you want and thank you so so much for your support"
"I am quite pleased with how I skated, I wouldn´t change much. I might would clean up my combination a little bit, but overall it was a good start into the season".
"Since last year was such a big year for me, I definitely want to make it to the worlds team and repeat my medal at the Grand Prix. Besides that, I want to clean up my elements a bit."
"I have not seen Courtney skate much, so I am pretty oblivious to her skating world, but I got to practice a lot with her this week and I like how powerful she is. How she tries really hard with her jumps and just goes for it."
"I like that Kaetlyn skates powerfully, I like her jumps, they are far and high and I like the character she portraits on the ice."
"Alena is like such a bubbly skater, she is very expressive and it´s a lot of fun skating together"
"I want to show how mad the world is, we have many problems and at times we need to remember those."
"For this season I decided to put three quads into my LP and I am pretty happy that I was able to rotate my third quad in the second part of the program and the quad triple and Salchov. It´s just a shame about the second triple Axel, which I couldn´t fully rotate"
"It was in general quite a difficult competition for me, as we arrived just one day before the short so I didn´t had much time to practice"
"Well, the Moscow people care more about their own skaters, but it´s my fault as well, as I need to skate more consistently and ya, they try to push the young...."
"I am not so young, so"
"The story that we created for it, is almost a little bit biographical for us, not knowing your destiny and trying to find the answers for that."
"It´s basically about discovering your destiny and.... discovering what your purpose is in life, what you are meant to do, what you are meant to be and we just love the program".
"We were a little bit disappointed with our performance today, but we both love our program and we want people to see what we are made of, which sadly wasn´t today"
"First my wife has to make a baby for me, then I can throw her"
"None of them know, what that´s like"
"other from skating, I am pretty much not talented at much else"
"I dont have anywhere that much"
"Of course I care"
Mitchel Islam (jumping in during my question to Madison, Alexandra and Anastasia about, how it is skating with a charming guy on their side)
"None of them know, what that´s like"
I must say I agree. I can't believe she won 3rd place on PCS with that messy skate. But the judges seem to reward her more for what she can do rather then what she does do on that night.I am a bit surprised she got held up so high. It really was quite a mess with so few clean jumps.
The current reigning double, Olympic champions Maxim Tarasov and Tatiana Volosozhar, had two very distinctive performances here at Oberstdorf. Their SP, was a hit and miss compilation, while the FS was almost a perfect demonstration of their old strength.
I'm sorry, I know it was unintentional mistake because of such ig amount of text, but Maxim's last name is Trankov.
I hope we get to see a pic of Max being cute and holding up Elladg's medal
I'm starting to like him a lot more, and this coming from someone who cares extremely little about men's as a whole. And I account that mainly to his improved performance. I'm going to see him at SA so I hope he does this well there!
Actually, I took a picture with him at Nationals. It's disappeared into the depths of iPhonedom, but I still have a postcard he signed. I didn't really talk to him but he seemed very nice and genuinely happy to meet fans.

Max won me over a bit with his antics at the Medal ceremony. It must have been hard for him to lose to Balde here, yet he didn't let it show.
... Shall I post the Interviews that didnt make it into the column at fan Fests of the skaters?
