Wow this is really a cheesfest!

My serious questions are:

Who decided to do this?
And why?
If sponsors gave alot of money what are they getting out of this?

What is the objective of this competition?
Promote skating?
Make somebody money?
Give an opportunity for money to the skaters? (Which is fabulous)

Why all the glitz? It's like the academy awards of skating, except that its not all the top rated skaters.

Wouldn't you think that some top level skaters that were not invited or voted in would be upset that they could not participate for the money prizes?

I don't understand this competition.
Would appreciate any help with this.!
