I thought we had a thread for this new competition.

It's the same time as Tallinn Trophy (CS) and Skate America (GP): Nov 23-25

IIRC, this is ISU's first speed/synchro/figure event and they wanted participation to be more exclusive (top worlds result/ranking/standing). Who do you guys think will go because it's the same time as a CS and GP?

USFSA has this event slated on their international assignment page

This competition was not on the initial calendar ;)

What a busy weekend, there's Tirol Cup, Andorra Open and Skate Celje at the same time!

We'll probably not see any european skaters in Shanghai (except russians?), but it can be interesting for some chinese, japanese or korean skaters. China needs to improve until 2022 Olympics, that's always a good way to host some international events.

Come on Kailani, Bring home the cash.

To be honest, this is a very unusual competition with a very odd mix of skaters at very different levels.
Obviously the main attention of this trophy is on Speed Skating amd Synchronised Skating- as they are the events that China wants to get more attention in.
Figure skating already has a solid base in China, so i suppose it doesnt have the same need to promote it.

i am surprised maria sotskova is listed skating back to back competitions. but good luck to all

Half the competitors will be skating back to back competitions coming from Grenoble. And who can resist that prize money? It's more money than skating in a grand prix event! :drama: And I love that everyone will be able to bring home some cash :dance3:

And Stanislava says she will skate in Tallinn so only 5 ladies.

So when are the SP/SD

OMG if they make that kind of cash skating 1 program :handw: because I don't see the SP listed here either
http://www.shtrophy.com/news/Schedule

ETA: confirmed by the announcement, they are only skating one program. Spend your money wisely kids

The four standard figure skating disciplines will only be skating their long programs. This event is intended to be a mini display of Ice Sports they want to develop in China for the future- namely short track speed skating and synchronised skating.

That's some serious cash for only one skate. I hope the skaters all enjoy themselves, the event and their money

Yay!

I wish the ladies and men were before the synchro. It's much better times for me.

I have the very sinking feeling that this commentator is not going to be a very good one (as in, has no idea what he's talking about).
