Congratulations to all competitors! Ah, also I would like to ask, since the Junior Nationals is also called the JOC Junior Olympian Cup, does that mean Mao and Shunsuke who are champions are automatically given the Winter Youth Olympic spots?

Yes, assuming that will be the case. I just checked and Japan should have 2 spots to both women and men's competitions at the Winter Youth Olympics. And actually, the competition results today should be the final selection for team Japan. So perhaps the list will be announced soon.

I honestly don't know how they decide who goes to Youth Olympics
Sota went the year he was Junior Champion (2016) but in 2020 they sent Yuma and iirc Shun
Lucas Tsuyoshi Honda was Junior Champion that season and Yuma and Shun were already competing as Seniors
Sorry, I was mistaken
Yuma was Junior National Champion in 2020 and Shun was 2nd

No, the 2020 assignment should be correct because Yuma won the Junior Nationals in the 2019-2020 season (JNats was done in November 2019, while Winter Youth Olympics was in January 2020). Lucas won the Junior Nationals in the 2020-2021 season (November 2020), when both Yuma and Shun had turned senior (and also it was a pandemic season).

So I think we should expect the Junior Nationals champion to go. I think the one year they didn't send the Junior Champion to Winter Youth Olympics was in 2012 where they sent Shoma instead, but I think that's because he was the highest placement in Juniors that fits the age criteria for 2012 Winter Youth Olympics (born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 1997).

What? Love Yo, but, Ikura did so well at Nationals. Are they spreading the wealth? Meaning, does Ikura have a spot at Junior Worlds now that three spots are available?

Shunsuke is not eligible for YOC. Skater need to be born between 2006-09.

Sad about Ami and Kaoruko 😭. Ami should focus on her health and sit out the final if needed. Kaoruko has been on the rise this season,Today just wasn't her day. She will most likely not get jgp assignments next season. Both are still so young though, should have a long career in front of them.

Oh no 🙈 Ami 😭
And to think, I was wondering why Kinayu was skating as a Junior this year, when she could have gotten through easily as a Senior, to Nationals.

Is Ami first sub, if someone like Mai Mihara (hoping it won’t happen) WD

Oh yeah!! I forgot about Kaoruko. This was her opportunity to shine and she didn’t and now I have to be furious knowing she will be on the sidelines with JGP.

My preliminary guessing is this: JSF goes with the Jr. National Champion first, and the second spot goes to the top placing skater who's from a different section of that of the Champion (Rio from East, so a second spot to a skater from West; Mao from West, so a second spot to a skater from East). That's only a guess. I think another point to consider is if the skaters are within the age limitation (which I'm not familiar with.)

No, there's no such a sub list to the invitation list, unfortunately (Adding: even there would be a sub, in the case of only 29 women entering Sr. Nationals in the end, the sub should go to the Sr. skater from either the east or west sectionals. Besides, there's one more skater, Mayuko Oka, who placed above Ami at Jr. Nationals.)
