After missing the 2016 edition, figure skating is back on the menu at the 2018 Arctic Winter Games.

The Arctic Games are a biennial multi-sport event for regions that border the Arctic Circle.

The 2018 Games are being held in the South Slave region of the North-West Territories, Canada. The joint host cities are Hay River and Fort Smith, with the figure skating being held in Fort Smith.

Dates: 18–28 Mar 2018 (for the entire Games. Don't know dates for Figure Skating yet)

Location: Fort Smith Centennial Arena, Rupert Avenue, Fort Smith, NT, X0E 0P0

For figure skating, this is essentially a Junior Ladies event. The girls competing are separated into 4 competitions:

  • Ladies 1 (born 2005 or later)
  • Ladies 2, Ladies 3 & Ladies 4 (all born between 2000-2007)

Going by results pages from past editions, each competition will consist of a Short Programme and a Free Skate, and there will be four separate sets of overall results.

There was also a Team Event in previous editions, but I am not sure how it worked, or whether it is being held again this time.

A team consists of up to eight athletes and 2 coaches from each participating contingent.

The following teams are listed as taking part in the figure skating competitions in 2018:

Other teams taking part in the 2018 Arctic Games (and who may be late entries for figure skating) are:

More information will be added as it becomes available.

For reference, here are some past figure skating results pages:

2014 – Fairbanks, Alaska
2012 – Whitehorse, Yukon
2010 – Grande Prairie, Alberta
2008 – Yellowknife, North-West Territories
2006 – Kenai Peninsula, Alaska
2004 – Wood Buffalo, Alberta
2000 – Whitehorse, Yukon

It will be interesting to see if any of this year's participants go on to become well-known names (or if they already are!)
