During the team event at Sochi I don't think the majority of people in attendance had ever seen Julia spin. Watch this video (sorry I can't time stamp Vimeo) starting at 2:14

I swear....when she goes into the iSpin she looked like she was going to stay perfectly centered but I think the crowd startled her when the went all screamy and what not.

I'll never forget the way the crowd was for the 2013-14 WC Ladies SP and especially when the second to last group skated. Mao, Kanako, and Akiko one after the other. It was so intense! I swear the fans were just downright going bonkers. It was electric and one of my favorite moments being a fan of this sport.

Anyone have video of the whole SP so I can experience it as a continuous event instead of individual programs. I remember I stayed up 24hrs straight just to watch it.

Probably a good moment to remind people that the Sochi crowd was not a proper figure skating crowd, therefore it was actually entirely probable that the majority of people there had never seen Yulia spin before!

For me, listening to Jason's Riverdance is enough to get my own heart racing. Hearing the screaming undertone to the crowd's applause start to build...even blind Freddie knew that performance was special.

That day was probably one of the greatest days of figure skating, great program after great program. Akiko was the star that night and her SP deserves much more attention because she skated her heart out!

And enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOUe82Fu-C4

Sorry if you thought I was being unclear. I actually thought it was a pretty well known fact that all Olympic events are attended by "newbie" type fans. That is why I was setting the scene when I said I thought the "majority" of people in attendance hadn't seen her spin before. I should hardly think to call them "improper" though. Just thought the crowds crazy reaction to the spins was noteworthy for this particular thread. Sorry if you disagree.

No, not at all, the crowd's reaction was wonderful, but if people "know" that Olympic events are attended by "newbie" type fans, certain sections of the fandom just love to forget it whenever the Sochi crowd is mentioned.

Craziest reaction from one spectator.

I remembered a video of a man wearing spectacles and beard sitting very near the boards and Midori Ito launched her BIG triple axel right in front of him. The man sort of jerked backwards like trying to avoid Midori hitting him (although Midori was not jumping over the boards). The man moved his body backwards, eyes wide opened and fell off his seat.

Anyone remember which event this was?

Midori Ito's FS in the 1988 Calgary Olympics: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CgIvUjCrlgY. Even before she finished, the people were standing up from the front row to the very last rows.

Yuzuru Hanyu's epic LP in his Worlds debut in 2012 in Nice, France:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?autoplay=1&v=E2ejAjIFkfo
The audience's cheers and clapping he said literally gave him strength as he was visibly losing air. And at the end, as Simon Reed noted, people were standing all around the stadium applauding him.

Daisuke Takahashi's LP also at 2012 Worlds: https://m.youtube.com/watch?autoplay=1&v=yOlXuWQzYL4
He was wildly applauded by the audience including his own choreographer Pasquale Camerlengo.
