I get what you mean - it might have been a bit of a hindrance as he had to calculate his path carefully in order to avoid crashing into the stage. :eek:hwell:

Absolutely! I had an inkling he would be pleasant to talk to judging from his interviews and the way he presents himself in all sorts of situations. Great you got to meet him at Nationals (that's a nice picture as well)! Did you have the opportunity to chat for a while?

Just looking at it purely from a safety perspective, I guess that's why the placement of the stage bothered me. But on the other hand, Dai has probably skated in so many different situations that he is probably used to that type of setup. And of course the belly-button showing shirt made up for the stage!

Charlie was super nice. After he finished at the Ice desk, he just started wandering around and mingling with the people who were there. There weren't too many of us, so I think that's why he felt ok to talk with us. Sometimes things can get chaotic very quickly when too many people are around. He was talking about how he and Meryl had been doing a lot of ice shows. I asked him if he enjoyed performing in Japan. He said Japan Is one of their favorite places to go to and that the fans are so enthusiastic, which makes it really fun. Usually they are so busy with their responsibilities that they don't have time to socialize too much with the fans.

We were laughing because the name of the arena for Nats was the Sprint Center, and sometimes they (John Coughlin--former U.S. pairs champion, in particular) were literally sprinting to do their next interview...I had my annual chat with Charlie's mother too! She's as friendly as he is!

*ahem* An extremely belated happy new year to everyone in here! (Had a rather hectic start into the year, so I wasn't able to post, but I diligently followed everyone's contributions in the Dai, Shoma and Deniss fan-fests. Major thanks to everyone, who's keeping these threads alive!)
..... WHOLE POST!

Hi everybody!!! Long time silent, but always reading. Thanks to you all for always supporting Dai-chan with such love.
....WHOLE POST!

Thank you so much to you both, synesthesia and Pattina for taking your time and writing such a lovely and lively report on AOI and his performances to share with us all! :thank::thank:

When we first heard about Dai working with Mr. Cheesman in LA, I had such glorious ideas in my head, imagining him doing a funky, combined floor/skating routine, looking smoking-hot in a lavish, sexy rockstar-outfit. *sigh*

That's what I had imagined, too. Not only Daisuke, same with Meryl and Charlie.
Very happy to know for me is Utako sensei was accompanied thru-out the tour. Another happy for me is Shawn was among the AOI cast. So thanks again for these, too, synesthesia. :)

It's a shame, that you're so disappointed and can't seem to find anything to like about the program at all. (apart from the song itself) Is it any consolation for you to hear, that being there in person it could be felt, that Dai was putting his heart into it, making the most of what he had to work with?

I learned long ago that life is tough, and whenever I feel that way I always tell myself 'I'm tougher, things will be fine', but these words of conjuration/magic do not work sometimes, you know, and last week was exactly that for me tbh, I kinda felt down and pessimistic. I am sorry for my previous comments which sounds rather negative...

deedee the program was very well received by the audience, this is what I heard from reliable Dai fans on twitter who were at the show.

I am just happy to see him on the ice performing because who knows how long he will be performing. I feel that Dai has moved on and his skating
days may be numbered. Of course I hope I am wrong.

Thanks as always for being so kind and comforting me. I acted like a spolied brat, am embarrassed of myself... :slink:
It's true his skating days may be numbered. :sigh: I'd better appreciate and enjoy watching every bit of his skate while we can.

Thank you for the lovely feedback! :)

Don't apologize! Only speaking for myself, of course, but you know what? I think it's fine to be honest. We're obviously all huge Dai fans here and support him in whichever ways we can, but that doesn't mean we're not allowed to criticize. Imo it's a given, that we don't have to like everything he does and nothing in life and noone is going to be 100% perfect all of the time (if ever). I hope my previous response to you didn't make it sound like I was scolding you - that certainly wasn't my intention. :ghug:

And I can definitely feel you. I'm still a little sad myself, that I didn't get to see Dai at his very best this time. It seems he improved in his performances in Lausanne and especially Davos. Judging from the videos, this is my favourite performance of Caravan from the whole tour and it happened on the second to last day. I so wish I could have been present for that one, but it wasn't to be.

That being said, I agree with you and demarinis5 - I'm always deeply grateful to have the opportunity to see him live. Who knows how much longer he'll bless us with his (skating) performances, so let's appreciate every moment!

...and we're being showered with great news again!:rock::party2:

- Love on the Floor is coming back to Orb Theatre in Tokyo from 16th through 25th June 2017 and Dai will be one of the main dancers this time!!! (Can't really afford it, but I'm so tempted... :slink:)

- There's also a brand new webpage for HYOEN 2017!

- Last, but not least, DTRTS's much anticipated interview with Dai in Lausanne will be published on www.artonice.it soon!

Thank you for your link! The complete show in HD can be found here.

There's also this one from 2013 where he had to skate through 20 m of bowling pins and this from 2015 where they made him do all sorts of silly stuff (like eating a sausage while spinning or tying a necktie while doing the "La Strada" step-sequence. :dance2:

Warning, this will be a giant update!!! Sorry, not sorry.

- Countdown to Hyoen 2017 - Ice Kabuki Extravaganza. There will be an event as some sort of preview for the actual show taking place on March 25th. Sounds very interesting! As a bonus for overseas fans in attendance the performance will be accompanied by english commentary.

DTRTS provided a rough translation of Daisuke's interview about "Hyoen" in the latest edition of "Kiss & Cry". It reveals that the show is going to be comprised of individual numbers connected by an overarching narration. Dai's character (Genoshiyoshi) will be some sort of tragic hero, who is challenged by an evil antagonist played by Kabuki-actor, Ichikawa Somegoro VII, who will also be performing on skates (he has skating experience). We also learned that Akiko will be playing Dai's character's wife. The cast will be completed by Nobunari Oda, Shizuka Arakawa and Mai Asada.

Picture from Kiss & Cry - open at own risk (I'm looking at you, deedee ;))

- It was recently confirmed on the official ig account, that Kristi Yamaguchi will join the "Love on the Floor" cast once again! :yes2:

- Daisuke posing with his kawaii chibi alter ego from the Okayama Prefecture promotional video. If anyone wants their own cartoon Dai - the website of Okayama Prefecture provides a pdf-file with cut-outs of all characters from their PR campaign: http://www.pref.okayama.jp/uploaded/life/505535_3785730_misc.pdf

- A week ago Swiss TV channel SRF Zwei aired highlights from "Art on Ice 2017".

Caravan
Person I should have been

Initially didn't want to post these since the copyright-holder provided the links exclusively on another forum, but as it appears that nothing is holy to the social online community and the videos have been shared all over tumblr and twitter now anyway... Daisuke, Stephane and Deniss demonstrating their mad dancing (and singing) skills in this exclusive footage from Saturday's aftershow-party in Zürich (this happened a few hours after my Dai-encounter). Enjoy! :dance3::dance2::party:

After all of the serious reporting on competitions, Dai has been on a TV show appearance marathon lately!

- Variety-show "PON". (They talked about his "torn pants mishap" in Switzerland. :rofl2: Unfortunately there's no translation so far.) http://dai.ly/x5cv5qk

- For the latest Zero Spotlight episode Daisuke took a backstage tour of the "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway and met actor James Barbour, who currently plays the title character (this really emphasizes how tiny uncle Dai is )

https://dai.ly/x5cx9p0

Listen to Mr. Barbour raving about Dai's on-ice "Phantom"-performance - you can tell Dai was deeply thrilled, honoured and embarrassed all at once by his words.

- Talk-show ZOOM IN from this morning:

https://dai.ly/x5dtjbu

In a preview pic Dai was posing with maracas. Slightly disappointed they didn't emerge during the actual talk. Was hoping for a reenactment of AOI-aftershowparty scenes.

- And finally this one also aired today: "TAIIKUKAI TV - Athletes vs Celebrities"
A physical game battle between "Team Athletes" (comprised of Nobu, Kana, Mai and Dai) and "Team Celebrities"! Didn't have the opportunity to watch the live-stream (and there's no complete upload of it yet), but it reminds me of "Tokyo Friends Park" from 2010! I'm sure this is going to be a blast!!!

Mai tweeted a picture of our steely gladiators:

NB. Videos are prone to disappear quickly...

Nice interview with Dai-chan regarding LOTF2. He says some interesting things about his participation.

Sorry it is not in English but google translate works really well.

http://natalie.mu/stage/news/222579

Love the pictures in that article, demarinis! Apparently Daisuke talked to a room full of journalists, because there are a bunch of pretty similar LOTF 2 interviews floating around. Thanks to minotsu on tumblr (maybe you're a member of this forum as well? :)) we now have several translations, revealing those interesting details about Dai's involvement in Cheryl Burke's heart-project:

1. Part 1 of an interview with Kateigaho magazine (Original source), Part 2 in Japanese (there's no translation for this one yet)

2. Interview with Diga On Line (Original source)

3. A few more tidbits from an interview with "Spice" (Original source) Imo his remarks on the different approaches to stage dancing and skating are very interesting.

Cuteness overload in this promotional video from Dai's photoshoot for the latest K & C edition! :luv17: (I think this time we'll both need antihypertensive drugs, deedee :drama:)

Ok, I almost have no words for this one. It's...it's...silly Dai at his best aka encounters of the 3rd kind! :laugh2:

Translation of a part of Dai's "Zoom In" talk by izayukam (Thank you very much! :))

Also thank you minotsu/luv flapper for bringing us a translation of the "XOI 2016 Behind the scenes" feature, in which Kenji talked about Dai's and Steph's collaboration:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thznfCRyxwU

Did we already have these alternate versions from the last day of XOI? I think Dai looks more relaxed in these performances and his and Steph's display of mutual acknowledgment during their bows at the end of their duet is super lovely.
