I think Hyoen deserves more attention than it's now getting, because of its uniqueness. There's simply no other ice show like it! The thread could have still been moved after a couple of days/a week. Oh well...

We went from "it's highly unlikely we get anything at all" to "there will most likely be an English release of Hyoen"!!! All thanks to the "beyond 2020" promotion campaign, which is connected to the Olympic Games 2020 being held in Tokyo. I'm wondering, which other projects are part of the campaign - sounds like it's of pretty wide scope.

If google translate doesn't completely fail me, the accompanying text says that 40.000 people showed up to see Hyoen, which means the venue wasn't filled to capacity (there are 9.079 seats in the stands) for all performances, but it's still a pretty good result!

This is so interesting! Thank you for the video link! I gotta admit I hadn't heard of Somegoro Ichikawa before Hyoen. He seems to be quite the pioneer when it comes to fusing kabuki with other genres and expanding the audience appeal of this traditional Japanese art internationally. What a brilliant, visionary artist!

I'm still overwhelmed by his performance!!! Please, read Twind's post in Daisuke Takahashi Fan Forum. all the many incredible ways Dai "acts" in the show, being Yoshitsune, the hero, not just pretending to be some historic character. While reading, I could see Dai performing in front of me, I could "see" all the scenes. And in the end my eyes are wet.....

That's very sweet of you, deedee, but it's a combined effort of everyone here and I've only had such a short active stay so far. Most of you have been contributing to the forum and Dai's FF for waaay longer than me! I almost feel like an outsider tbh. I already told Pattina I'm a little sad I deprived myself of that bonding experience with other Dai fans by discovering the whole online fandom just towards the end of his career (and was too shy to register, let alone join discussions right away even then). Like you said you had a strong bond with Olympia, who I sadly only got to know through backreading and also feel close to demarinis and all of you bonded over rooting for Dai and being nervous together during competitions, like MaiKatze reminisced the other day - makes me wish I could have been part of that. :sad4: Following young skaters' careers together with other posters on the forum in real time now makes me painfully aware how I missed out on this experience with Daisuke, who was my first "figure skating love" and therefore will always hold a very special place in my heart. Sorry for the sappy, personal interjection... :
